Whee! Glad you started this post!!! I have been jammed up and could not respond to your other thread! Judging the kids on the show is hard! But on this, not soo hard
good to see you, sugar. i thought i saw something about you having difficulty getting in here, was it the glitches here, or was it your device? i'm still learning this new laptop, let me tell you, i HATE windows 10 ALOT!
from what i read, it seems that the 3 judges will each mentor 8 contestants, but the website is giving me fits right now, so i'll post more info as soon as i can!
You are welcome! I was wondering when you were coming coming back and listing the top 24. Since it's your thread .....So what were your thoughts of the episode?
i like the new concept of mentoring , but to be honest, i'm not really SEEING any of that. i was okay with losing sid and sal, since i didn't really know anything about them.
i was REALLY impressed with some of the contestants last night, with the crab challenge, it was interesting that the people who were best at it know pretty much nothing about crab. shanika, who i expected to dislike( you know how much i HATE IT when contestants wear high heels, lol!), was truly impressive , her dish was close to perfect, and she battled through some pretty fierce fear! i DO wish her doctor would explain to her that crab, lobster, crawdads, anything with an exoskeleton is a crustacean , NOT shellfish, and it's very possible she can eat those, even with the shellfish allergy. but anyway, she was REALLY BRAVE!
i shouted at gordon because he did NOT poach his egg correctly, lol! there was far too much white left in the pan, his whirlpool wasn't strong enough. my hubby cracked up laughing!
i wasn't happy losing stephanie, but i was really heartbroken with losing olusola, i was really rooting for her!
next week is the first team challenge, maybe we'll see more one on one mentoring. and this first team challenge always tells me alot about the contestants true abilities, i'm looking forward to it!
^ Yay, you saw the second episode! Not going to leave my comment on that one. You said it all for the audience who sees this show. I do agree that I don't see any mentoring. It may be to the judges, "why I chose them" and "see, your contestant is not good"...I could be wrong too. Glad you brought that up!
having been a mentor for many years, i know that it's a hands on job, up to and including LITERALLY taking a person's hand and showing them proper procedure, like how to hold a knife, how to properly flex your wrists to avoid developing carpal tunnel syndome, etc. and it involves the sense of touch in a big way, people need to know what the proper textures feel like, or the proper thickness, stuff like that. you don't just talk, or demonstrate, you know?
tiff, let me know when you've watched, i don't want to post spoilers, lol!
You should post it, regardless of me It's soo sweet that you waited for me. I don't know what episode I am watching...I am guessing the 4th! I almost done on my DVR. Looks like the Dental Student is going home.
sweetie , my point is being able to talk to you about what's current, and NOT to give you a reason to skip an episode, lol! now, what do you think of the team challenge, and the reactions during the pressure test? and what did you think about the person who DID go home being gutsy? and what did you think about a certain contestant's anger level?
I was um...not understanding what went wrong with Darrick. Was he supposed to have known how to make a whipped cream a couple of times before coming to this show????
The Dental guy should be lucky that he was not the one going home. I thought he was before what Darrick said that I am in question of? Maybe you can give me the answer of what I saw.
the problem with darrick was that he admitted that he hadn't actually practiced ANYTHING before the show started, and that's a BAD move. especially with something like whipped cream, lol! that's a given for anyone who cooks, that you know how to do it, what it should taste like, what the texture should be, as it's used in so many desserts. and sweet baking IS an integral part of the show, even with kristina gone. i DO admire him for knowing he should be the one to go home. i think he knew he was out of his league, no matter how good he is at dishes he's used to cooking.
for example, if i was to be a contestant, my hubby would be learning to eat medium rare steak, and A LOT of it, that's something i'm not good at because we eat meat well done, always. he's also be learning to eat runny fried eggs and soft scrambled eggs, i'm not good at that either, we both like eggs cooked hard. i can do soft poached eggs fine, because of his dad, i learned to make those for him. it was one of the few things he would eat when he was sick.
i was surprised that dental guy( farhan?) didn't go home too, to be honest. and i was also surprised shanika didn't go home, after letting her anger getting the better of her. mind you, i agreed that the lady with the fake gray hair shouldn't have been saved, but shanika shouldn't have been either. i felt that lindsay should have been saved instead, she did an excellent job expediting.
they ALL need to learn better teamwork, imho, if they plan to open their own restaurants, and bowen and emily DEFINITELY need to learn more about leadership and delegation.. and they need to have DON'T PANIC! tattooed on their hands, lol!
