I'm with all of you - this remains one of my favourite shows; I went through a period where I was watching re-runs all the time to the point where I think I've seen every show of every season 4-5X LOL. Not something I do with other shows (except maybe SVU). Hate when finale time comes around for all my shows.

Jamie should be a detective by now.

Perhaps he should, however, this has been addressed more than once on the show and he has stated emphatically that he prefers to stay where he is at present. I'm sort of glad because I like seeing that side of things - he and Janko (who I love) on the streets. It gives a wider view - Donnie and partner as detectives, the Police Commissioner's issues, and the street cops.
