  • The Family - new show

A new show starts next Wed., March 2nd called The Family. In the premiere, a Main family is upended when their presumed-dead son returns home a decade after disappearing. That's all I know. The preview sparked my interest so will give it a try.

^^^I'll give it a try also Jupiter Jane, the previews looked creepy, just right up my alley .

The season opener certainly begged many questions and looks promising.

Just watched the premiere. Sooo many questions....what a mess! This poor family. I could have done w/o the dad and the cop cliche' affair. Nice to see Zach Gilford. #Saracen7! I'm in.

I can't wait to see who that little boy really is.At first I was saying this is a silly show until that girl was talking to that guy about her having something to do with replacing that child.I will surely tune in.

So far, i'm liking this little new show. I'm trying to figure out if the boy is really the same kid (or another kid that was brain washed). I'm also trying to figure out if Andrew McCarthy character is guilty of perhaps being somehow involved with the kidnapping. I'd like to see the mother more tuned in to her son (maybe i should says sons) than her campaign. I love Alison Pill, she's got some layers to her character, so does the lady cop.

I am really enjoying this show! It's so intriguing. I'm always wondering so many things. It's got the right amount of creep and angst. Anyone know how many episodes there are? It's like a novel, I can't wait to find out everything but I'll be so sad when it's over.

This show has really piqued my interest! I can't decide how many people are lying, but for now, it seems as though there are plenty of hidden secrets going on. Good stuff!

I do NOT like that daughter of theirs. She's creepy and she probably did it. Or knows something about it. According to this suspect DNA, it's not the real son... but it's not like that cotton swab (DISGUSTING!!!) had his name on it either. I'm sure it's him.

....mmm hmmm. I KNEW this broad was bad news. Anyone who helps anyone (even a parent) lie to their parent is a person that can't be trusted. This girl had an idea that her dad was being shady towards her mother, suspected his connection with the officer, read a suspect e-mail regarding that connection, and she covered/lied for him. Not a smidgen of love for her mother....

In the beginning, I believe a number of us believed that the true Adam was "roommates" with this substitute, but, I refused to believe that these writers could be that unimaginative. There's got to be more to this tale than that red herring. PLEASE, let there be a bigger and more original story to be told! If this is IT, I doubt we'll see more than one season of this.

^^^^ I agree that the daughter gives off a creepy vibe. But I see her covering for her father differently. I think she did it to protect her mother from the hurtful truth. I think she carries around a lot of guilt because she was supposed to keep an eye on Adam ten years ago and feels responsible (at least partly) for his disappearance. And I think she brought this stranger into their home and said it was Adam because she's trying to make her family whole again. The only thing I'm not sure of is her underlying motivation: did she do all this (including hiding her father's affair) solely out of love for her mother and not wanting to see her hurt? Or was it out of ambition, i.e., to remove or prevent personal and family distractions from getting in the way so that her mother could focus completely on her political goals and campaigns. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

^Thank you for that, July Baby. I can put down my rock now. Perhaps I got so caught up in how I feel about the character of the daughter that I failed to be fair. I'll have to pay more attention and stop multi-tasking while watching these shows.... it gives me a false sense of what's REALLY going on.

^^^^ You're welcome, He'sAliveToday! And thinking about it a little more, I guess her motivation could be a combination of love for her mother and ambition. It doesn't have to be one or the other. JMHO.

The daughter was protecting her mother from the heartache of an affair. When her brother found her under her desk the other night, she said"I'm so tired of trying to hold this family together". So, she must feel burdened with the fact that she lost Adam 10 years ago and it caused her father's affair and her brother's drinking, etc. From the previews for next week, it looks like when this Ben finds her, she decides (stupidly) to use him to pretend he's Adam in the hopes of bringing her parents back together. What the mystery is now is what the heck happened to Adam? Is he dead? Why? Is the creepo building a new spot for a new boy? Or for Adam?
