  • Just wondering how everybody is doing now with pop ups? There haven't been any new posts in awhile. I haven't had the problem myself, but I see my ad block is now blocking 6-8 ads per page when it used to be 3 or 4.

    • I haven't had any popups on my Kindle for a few days. The hijacking continued for a bit more but now seems to have stopped.

      • Porn Spam

In the GH forum, members have been posting porn and other sites. Does a member have to change their security settings to avoid these types of ads?

        • It's not just on the GH board, it's all over, including the B&B board. They're even posting on this tech board. All you can do is report these posts just like any other spam posts and the mods will take care of them.

          • The Wiz and Turkish Airlines hijack my Kindle

These two particular ads appear consistently at the top of the B&B board, which is the one I frequent the most. The page takes forever to load or just freezes. The Wiz ad outright hijacks my Kindle off to Amazon. Turkish Airlines opens up the ad on another page. I do not touch these ads but they still hijack my Kindle. What's the deal with these particular ads?My only solution has been to again disable Javascript. Please look into this.

            • Reporting spam posters

Is there a way to report spam posters if we notice they're spamming the forums across all the boards? Other than just reporting individually or indicating that a poster is a spammer, I see no other options.

We should be able post on these boards without constantly being bombarded by spam, especially all the porn spam we're getting lately.

              • There is a black triangle with an exclamation mark at the bottom of every post. If you click onto that icon, it will take you to a new window, where you can fill out a report that goes to the moderators. If you notice that a spammer has made numerous posts, it is not necessary to report each individual post by that spammer, because the moderators automatically ban the spammer and remove all posts associated with the account.

                • Thanks for responding. In the case of the porn spammers, these are individual memberships that have been created, so it seems necessary to report each and every one of them. And there are tons of them all over these boards. I suppose I could just report one post in each thread and say it's riddled with porn spam or whatever.

                  • By all means, report each individual username. It may certainly be the same spammer who is creating multiple accounts, and although we can determine that in other ways, it's best to report the individual spam usernames. What I meant was that you don't need to report each individual spam post by the same spammer. When we respond to a spam report and go to the offensive post/thread, we automatically search how many posts that spammer -- frequently a bot, not a person -- has made, and remove all of them. And it's these bots who tend to create a whole list of separate accounts, in rapid succession, which is why the spam tends to pop up in waves.

I used that black triangle to report Chinese spammers and ended up knocked off the board. I had to get Hitman to clean out my computer at great cost, and apparently got "piggybacked" by the spammers, or something to that effect. I reported two porn spam incidents today, that are still on the Survivor Cambodia forum, #47 and #48. I did that by Email.

In the case of the Chinese spam, every time they post they create a new user name starting with a "k".

OK, will do. I think I've spent the last hour or two reporting all these porn spam accounts since I obviously have nothing else better to do.

Again, thanks for responding so quickly

Thank you for letting me know about the reports. It's possible that the moderator to whom you sent the direct email hasn't seen it yet, but I will go over to that board and take care of it.

UPDATE: Another moderator had already removed those posts by the time I got there, so it's done...

The moderator I generally use is very fast and efficient. However, I get tired of bothering her so I will put in here in future.

                            • The GH board does seem to have more porn spam threads started by these bots or whatever they are. Other boards mostly have the spam inserted in legit threads.

Edited to add that the porn spammers are out in full force tonight, especially on the GH boards.
