    Lessons in Chemistry

Is anyone else watching Lessons in Chemistry on Apple TV? It's really very good and I'd love to discuss.

I saw the first episode, for now I like.
We follow the life of a young woman of the 50s (with all this misogynist of the time) who is passionate about science and who has great faculties in this field. Unfortunately, she had to drop out of school to get a PhD for sad reasons. we see that she will go through ups and downs, I think that I will like to follow the different paths that will take the life of Elizabeth, how will she cope with it with her character of determined woman. I liked Brie Larson who is perfect, but also the sets and costumes, the story needs to be flesh out a little more.

I'm waiting to read your review.

Right now, I've seen the first four episodes, so I'll give too much away if I give a full review, but let's say that during the first episode, I was interested in the scientist who was showering in the emergency shower, by pulling the string that you're supposed to pull after someone is the victim of a spill. In my day, decades later, those were in the hallway outside the labs. It was rather creative.

I think that I was pulled to the show because the promo shot reminded me of the Queen's Gambit, and I love that it was about another woman who was brilliant and living in a time that didn't have much respect for women and their brains and just wanted them for laundry and cooking and to pushout babies and serve as nanny. So many men are just horrible to the lead character.

That shower scene was funny. Another era, but like other scenes, the men who remain outside during childbirth, all their women in the same room to give birth. I didn't know about this period, but I knew it happened this way.

Yes what women endured at that time, even though things have evolved, the apology of the doctorate are given for not giving Elizabeth a chance, but it is much more because she is a woman, than a story of graduation.

At that time, women who worked only went to become nurses, teachers, secretaries, then as soon as they got married, that was it, and they had to have children. There has always been something contradictory, they had the right to study even at university, but it had to stop there, whereas logically you study not only to learn and educate yourself but also to have the choice of your profession and gain your independence

From the second episode the series brought more nuance, I was shocked by the end, but I should have known it when a couple settles too quickly, in a series it is never good. In itself, I do not mind, an unpopular opinion, but I think it was the right thing to do, not to focus on a love story, because here it is not the story that is told about.

Then comes a centered episode seen through the eyes of a dog, in itself, it could have been strange but on the contrary it was very well done.
Six Thirty, was touching, and this idea of him being distant with Liz so she could cry was a good story.
I like the friendship between Harriet and Liz, a comforting side.

For the last episode, I was fooled, I thought Liz’s daughter was the girl with glasses, I’m waiting for Liz’s revenge against her former boss and the impostor

I thought the girl with the glasses was her daughter, too. I was quite surprised when it was the friend. It was bothered when hearing her proclaim that your daughter has been taking food from mine, as opposed to my daughter has been offering her lunch to yours. The little girl was not a bully at all. I felt sad that she was separated and alone.

The birth scene in that hospital ward was horrible - all those women in the same room, without the curtains closed, taking turns grunting and crying out. What a nightmare. If I heard all the women all around me before it was my turn, I'd have been frightened as all get out, and knowing I'm about to give birth is scary enough. It was like a scene out of a horror movie, and yet it's as I hear it was.

I loved the line about the anesthesia. For $45, I could make my own.

          The girl made me sad

Between the price of anesthesia and what Liz answered it was hilarious, sometimes it’s better to do things alone. Their delivery room made want to give birth at home, or discourage you from having children.

Interesting moment when Harriet and her friends tell Liz that being a mother, they has never been the great love all the time with their children, it's not something innate, it's learned, well I guess , I have no children

I really like the Harriet character and her friendship with Liz. Some people aren't as warm and wonderful with the people who their friends get involved with, mainly because they don't have the past or know the newcomer as well, but she treats Liz like family, and brings up much needed memories of her lost love.

Elizabeth rejecting Boryweitz’s job offer was a good time of sweet revenge.

The panel that tested the program by giving its opinion was mostly men, which is completely contradictory because this type of program was watched especially women, so even when women are concerned, were men who gave their opinion.

The boss gently made me laugh with all his sexism, the face he made when she wore glasses or her blouse, the man mostly wanted a potiche.

Who would have thought that chemistry and cooking could be a success
The discussions between Mad and the reverend were interesting and sweet. Then the dinners between the two families, I love.
The mother and daughter will have to adapt to all her changes and this new notoriety.

I watch this show and I think of people talking about the good ole' days. They certainly weren't, if you were a woman. I think most of us have had to live through comments not all that dissimilar in our earlier days at work.

Love this show. I love how Elizabeth stands up for herself. It's just so sad that Mad is having troube with a working mom, but I suppose that's not unrealistic either.

When people talk about the good old days, they tend to forget all the bad parts and just take the good ones, but it is obvious that for women there was a lot more bad, than good.

I also think that Mad had her mother so present before her television show that it changes her, but she will get used to it, children are easier with the changes than us adults
But in my opinion Mad's friends must have their mother at home, so she probably sees the difference

I like the little words Elizabeth leaves for her daughter, it seems like wise advice, last week it was not to let the boys win.

Elizabeth ended up defending herself well, smarter than her big boss, a real businesswoman.
Ah, women didn't yet wear pants at the time, or rather it was still frowned upon. Her daughter has the personality of both her parents.

What a tragic story regarding Liz's brother so that's where her atheism comes from and also always telling the truth.
The story of the Sloane family was interesting, I even thought that at one point it was going to end badly, that one of the parents would be killed during the gathering

This penultimate episode was so beautiful and heartbreaking. Calvin, who was finally ready to taste happiness and left his fears behind, but dies. It has a torturous side to it.

Oh 😈 the priest of the orphanage is a real bastard, I'm sure he lied about Calvin's father when he arrived, I hope we get the answer in the finale. Like for this photo at the end of the episode.

This friendship that was forged between Calvin and the reverend was very beautiful, but also between him and Elizabeth/Mad, which shows that people who are different on many things can meet and get along, or ultimately probably want the same thing, to be happy.

I'm actually wondering whether the priest was molesting Calvin and that's why he didn't want to let him go. He might have been a priest by name, but I saw an evil person under that facade.

Don't laugh at me, but I had to look away when Calvin was running with his dog. I was heartbroken when he was killed and didn't want to see it happen again.

It's so sad. He went through so much beautiful thought to select that ring for Elizabeth and she didn't want to marry him. I cannot remember whether she ever found the ring. It made me sad, although their relationship couldn't have been more perfect as it was.

I am loving how the reverand is helping Mad to learn about her roots and loved the honest non-judgmental discussion between him and Elizabeth. I also love how she went back and helped Mad to comb through the books in the library. I love how purposeful Mad already is. Neither have a bad bone in their bodies. They are different, so perceived as odd by their peers, which shows how messed up society is, because to me, they are the ones with the pure hearts.

It's possible for the mistreatment, I know that these are things that happened at one time in many orphanages, but I think that if that were the case the subject would have shown differently and also his history with Elizabeth, because we saw that what blocked him from opening up to others, to women, was the abandonment he experienced from his parents.

This is exactly the world we live in, ultimately it hasn't changed that much, it's perhaps worse. Fortunately he will always have good people like Elizabeth, Mad, the reverend.
As long as he has life, he has hope.

I can see Elizabeth and Mad meeting Calvin's father, they will have this bond with Calvin.

I'm not laugh, I understand, for the scene, they didn't show, she was cut just before, and fortunately, but I was in front of the screen saying to myself, please, no, don't show this scene.

                        Nice ending

The scene with the tampax were well played and Elizabeth who speaks shamelessly about menstrual periods.

Finally, that she lived in all that she did not control in her life brought her where she had to be, beautiful things, other sad, like falling in love, becoming a mother, losing the love of her life, her TV show, new friends.

The end has me some surprise because I expected to see her in a laboratory but I am very happy that she ends up professor, given her personal and professional career, I found it logical, because in the meantime she has evolved, known people, loved , so dreams can be formed in a different way depending on her experiences.

The end of the book is different, not read the book but I read that this was the case
