Just some thoughts ans observations about Y&R

Why does everything have to revolve around a business model on Y&R? Where's the sense of community 🤔 variety, individuality?

I'm completely baffled by this turn of events? I just don't understand why everyone wants a safe, boring life.....

I mean business is necessary but not the only option? I don't want to watch meetings, boardroom brawls, infighting and one note wealthy people all the time?

I'd like to see some other options for dramatic effect 🤔

I am new to the show, but are there any doctors or a hospital?

Yes, but those characters are rarely shown, Britiny Sarpy- Elena (ex Valarie Spencer) has been back burnered and Nate a former surgeon is now a business mogal(he injured his hand)

Everyone else is now in the business industry for the most part! I think it's a because of a shrinking budget and the elimination of set's?

The hospital set and police station set are no longer used and almost everyone lives in a hotel!

YR has always been about family and business. Along with business rivals. Sprinkled with romance.

It's in the DNA of the show. Family businesses, and how that business impacted the families.

That's all well and good but there was always some other careers and aspects of the community that allowed for a well rounded community!

That is not the case anymore? It becomes monotonous when it is all business and infighting all the time, day in and day out......

I agree that it needs to be refreshed, but the business impact is really the core of the show. The Victor/Jack feud was based in the fact that Jack pushed his father to make their company public and Victor took control of Jabot when it did go public. Jack spent the rest of his father's life trying to make up to him for that mistake AND Jack has hated Victor ever since. That hatred took many forms, and Nikki and Ashley were involved, but the core of that feud is business. Victor as a character had a hard life, but he used business to reinvent himself and create a legacy for his family. He raised Victoria and Nick in the business. That's really what defines them all as characters. Back in the day, it was Newman Enterprises, Jabot, and Fenmore's. The coffee house came into play because Nick didn't want to work at NE. Brad was a pool boy that ended up at Jabot. Jill was a nail tech that ended up with John and at Jabot. Most of the storylines were around the business, the monied class, the infighting amongst them, and those that are not part of that class trying to get in. Even the popular teen stories were based around business...The Jabot House (I think that's what it was called). An entire summer of storylines about the teens and their romances and it was based in an ad campaign for Jabot.

So I agree that it needs to be refreshed, but the business aspect has always been there and it should remain as it is the core motivation for many of the characters.

I agree with the original post. I'm so tired of CEOs, Co-CEOs, CFOs, COOs and all their musical chairs! Note to producers ... I don't care who's trying to taking over any job or any company.

Real towns have citizens of every job and profession. So should GC!

Me too!! I've never seen a group of people more worried about their job title. If it was a drinking game we'd be wasted. They need more variety. It's like they can only concentrate on one thing at a time

Agree 100%. This show is ridiculously boring now and has moved past what was its focus, drama and romance and family, to corporate talk 5 days a week.

But it's not just a job for them. The job represents their place in the family. That's what the writers are neglecting to really show. Victoria appears to be whining about a title, but this is something that she has worked for and grown up in her entire life. It's what happens when the family business is also a part of the family.

The show gotten really bad. In the beginning it wasnt so much about business but rather a poor family and a rich family and youth and family dynamics. Business was mostly in the background. With the Newmans and Abbotts starting in the 80s the show has now finally lost all balance it is now pretty much about only the mega wealthy and there corporate pursuits.

It is a serialized version of CNBC. Not a day goes by that a company isnt mentioned and that the words CEO, COO, CFO etc, aren't mentioned. The characters are cardboard corporate suit cutouts with no depth or motivation other than a job title. There is no drama or intrigue and romance that isnt corporate related. There is no focus on young characters. As for doctors or police or anything other than business people, you have to watch another soap for that.

They follow the standard soap opera formula, rich, beautiful people, born with a silver spoon in their mouths, who are still miserable. It makes us feel better about our own lives. I remember Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, a satirical soap about regular middle class, blue collar people, that poked fun at the genre.

I agree with this comment. Yes, there is always going to be corporate/business stuff on Y&R. We know that. But the problem with this issue now is that the show is incredibly out-of-balance. There is too much corporate intrigue stuff. Way too much. The best stories for most of us are the personal issues of the characters. Love stories. REAL love stories. Far more interesting. The business stuff is a given. But it should not be what most of the show is about. I believe they are overdoing stories like this now because they are not sure what to do next with many major characters as it pertains to their relationships, or who to pair with who. And that is IMO not a good sign. It does not bode well for the future of Y&R. TPTB need to listen more to the longtime core viewers of this soap. There are still many of us. We still matter.

I'm fine with business sls - but for heaven's sake - come up with some new ideas. Stop with Victor insisting the family "work together". Let them do different things - be in competition - anything except the stale old stupid sl with Nick and Victoria bitching about Adam. Put Adam in business for himself - and let them fight each other from that angle. It's gotten absolutely silly with this childish bickering with daddy and each other trying to force round pegs into square holes.

I agree with the need for fresh ideas.

I believe the foundation of YR is still a good one. I have always enjoyed the corporate intrigue and when the family dynamics would get messy. The romance and triangles were always written well. Villains did not stay very long. And, it did not get too far-fetched.

Too bad YR cannot find a writer with even 1/2 the talent of Bill Bell. He had some misses but overall YR was a very good show.

I am getting weary of it especially since lately they take a job, quit in a month, take another job, quit in a month, rinse and repeat. I can't keep anything straight anymore.

Even though I don't mind the business stories, I am so happy about the Nikki, Claire and Aunt Jordan story that's unfolding right now on screen.... this story is intriguing and not related to business which is great. I think there just needs to be a balance when it comes to the stories on this show! It can't be all business and no play because then you start to lose interest. I hope the show finds that balance and come up with some great stuff for our viewing pleasure.
