Was Daniel trying to protect Summer (with his Phyllis is alive story)?

It would appear Daniel is trying to protect Summers liability, mostly with Kyle maybe. I just have a feeling when all this comes out, Summer will still have some blame coming her way from Kyle (about keeping the truth once she knew from him).

That's exactly what he did. He told the story as if he was Summer. However, Summer is not in the clear because she will end up saying something that will implicate her into knowing her mother was alive and she knew it and said nothing. I'm thinking it will be with Kyle.

Summer might be this "cough" great business woman but is also a spoiled little rich girl who is used to getting her way. Like her mother she often speaks before she thinks.

I don't think Daniel is protecting anyone. I think he betrayed both Summer and Phyllis. Just so he has a clear conscience. He acted more on Diane's behalf.
This will not sit well with Phyllis when she returns. He has always been in his own little world.
If Summer finds out soon that he lied to the men, saying it was him that met with Phyllis, he better hide.
I am surprised none of these men figured that Daniel has not had a good relationship with his mother and that Summer would be her go to confidante.

bluejazz Considering how self destructive she is, I can definitely see her as a nihilist.

In someways,Daniel may have also made things worst for Phyllis. Although i don't think Summer had a real plan either, just too wait until they figure out how to help Phyllis.

I do think Daniel was trying to protect Summer and her marriage to Kyle! He might of went about the wrong way though! I still believe he should of had legal counsel with him when he revealed what he knew! Michael isn't looking out for Phyllis, Summer and Daniel in this case which is something I think Daniel should of considered when he came up with this plan to act like Phyllis reached out to him. The truth always has a way of coming out... it's only a matter of time before the real story emerges and Summer's marriage will still take a blow!

Of course. But he stupidly ran to the very last people he should've ran to. He would've been better running to an attorney, Chance, or just about anyone, but tweedle dee and tweedle dumb. Oh well.

I couldn't agree more. He should have went to Chance or Christine, not Jack and Kyle. Especially with Jack (and I hope this is acceptable to post) acting like a teenage boy who has had sex for the first time.

Running to an attorney would be problematic in that the attorney would not be representing Phyllis and therefore not subject to attorney client privilege.

Chance would be looking for what Phyllis could be charged with and she would look good for Stark's killing.

He should have gone to Christine. His mother did what she pleased without caring for the fallout and how her family and friends were affected. He should give her the same consideration but as he's a far better person, is trying to mitigate the consequences for everyone while trying to right her wrong.

He did, but now I think that he'll end up being a suspect in Stark's murder. There's no evidence that Phyliss killed him, and Daniel's confession makes it look like he was trying to pin something HE did on a dead person.

Of course Daniel was trying to protect Summer and his mom. He even burst out at the end, when Jack was spouting all his intentions to go to Christine, that the indisputable given for his testimony was no charges for Phyllis. Michael said he didn't know if that could be managed (not just because he couldn't do it because of conflict while he represented Diane , but also because the idea of no blame of Phyllis was just too bizarre.)

Daniel ended up having Diane congratulate him, now that " she has Daniel in her corner". Then he realized what he had done and said " I can't to this".
To late, Daniel. You are now on Diane's side instead of protecting Summer or Phyllis. It is now going to explode.

By "I can't do this" I think he meant not telling Diane that Phyllis is alive.

*BackstreetGem* No . IMO it meant that he realized he had betrayed his mother and sister.
Take it the way YOU want.

That's not how Daniel rolls. He doesn't put up with Phyllis's BS and if he wanted to betray Summer he could've just said the story like how it actually happened. He was trying to protect people and be honest with Diane but was told not to.

He's trying to protect Summer *and* his mom from severe consequences while making sure that their victim, Diane, is freed.

But there is no way Phyllis isn't going to face some consequences for a plot that she planned and carried out with her husband that involved them committing multiple crimes.

And I still think Summer and Kyle will split and they should. She gave his son losing his grandmother on top of his other losses not a thought in continuing Phyllis' plotting and trying to tell the police not to look at any other suspects. And she's taken Harrison to an unknown location. Is she meeting the woman who hates his gran so much she concocted a stupid plot to jail her? I'm worried about the kid here. Is Phyllis possibly going to use him to get some kind of pass?

When Summer comes home Diane will take her first opportunity to shove Daniel's favor under her nose. In her truest fake sympathy mode.

Let’s hope Summer see’s Daniel is trying to help save
her marriage to Kyle. I really do think that is why he
                  told Jack and Kyle.

Daniel wanted the truth out there, he didn’t think it was right for someone who’s innocent to be stuck in jail. By saying Phyllis sought him out was protecting Summer. He is trying to get self defense in there too for his mom.
