Devon acts like he can't stand Nate, i wonder why?

I'm trying to figure out what Devon's problem with Nate is? Could Devon be jealous that Elana wanted to be with Nate? Does he want Nate to fail? Devon seems to shoot down all of Nate's ideas, sometimes it's like Devon doesn't even listen to Nate. And Lily is not tuned in, she can't see it. Billy sees it, but doesn't care? Imani definitely sees how Devon treats Nate. Maybe Nate needs quit, before Devon fires him.

I don't see it that way.

I see Nate acting as if he doesn't respect the fact that he's in a new environment and he reports to Devon. Why is Nate having such an issue simply following the guidelines set by his boss?

Nate had an idea. Devon shut it down and explained why. Lily agreed with Devon. Nate did what he wanted to do anyway and somehow Devon is the problem here?

Sometimes the way that Devon looks at Nate makes me think Devon has a problem with Nate for some reason which is why I don't understand why he made Nate his COO... it looks like the anger in Devon is building when it comes to Nate. When Lily and Billy held their glasses to toast Nate for going against what they talked about and how it paid off big time, Devon really didn't look like he wanted to even raise his glass... he probably wanted to raise his fist instead but held his composure thankfully.
There is clearly something going on here with Devon when it comes to Nate and I hope it comes out soon.

Two things:
1. Devon is used to being deferred to.
2. Devon has a lot of guilt (and should) for how he hurt Nate and ruined his career, which was Nate's calling - not just a job.
It's hard for Devon to reconcile those 2 issues.

I agree bebop47. I think that it's going to get uglier before it gets better - but in the end Devon is going to find a way for Nate's hand to be restored so that he can go back to being a surgeon. There was a reason that he overheard Nate's conversation to the journalist.

Devon said a long time ago that he would never forgive or forget that Nate was unsuccessful at saving Hillary after he operated on her and she died later anyway (just saw that old epi on Pluto).

Then there's the whole mess with Elena. Devon seems to be holding this new, huge grudge against Nate. Devon has the right to tell Nate what to do, but Devon seems to have a short fuse where Nate's concerned.

But we can all see Nate has been written so OOC for not following orders in his new position. The Nate I've always known would never have gone against his superior at work.

I don't see why Nate would have to "follow orders", it's not the military. Business requires flexibility. Devon bombed, and the decision to not tell the press anything was backfiring, Nate was intuitive enough to see that and came in to save the day. He reminded me of Neil. That's exactly what Neil would have done.

No matter the subject, Nate went through 10 years of training with very smart people professional people, and done it all on his own. He's not less than Lilly or Devon. Nate could own his own mega company too if Katherine left him billions and his father set it up for him.

Devon is a jerk to everyone. I'm done watching him, but Jill was on today and I really wanted to see her so I had no choice.

From what I saw...
Devon's speech was awful! Nate saw that and came in and cleaned up after him, and ended up doing a terrific job. Instead of being thankful Devon is pissed. Classic Devon, he is thankful for nothing he is given. Not the billions Katherine gave him, not the company Neil set up for him. He seems to think it was all him when in reality it was all them.

It's obvious Devon thinks he is better than Nate. Devon really dissed Nate by introducing him as Nate Hastings rather than DR. Nate Hastings. Nate has EARNED the title of Doctor (it wasn't gifted to him) and you don't lose it because you have changed professions. Devon needs to learn some manners and proper etiquette if he's going to play in the big leagues.

Oh yeah, Nate should always be addressed as Dr. Nate Hastings. That was an insult. I do wonder was that intentional or the writers just missed it? Anyway, it would have been good look for the business to have addressed Nate as their COO Dr. Nate Hastings.

Devon hasn't been given everything. He was literally abandoned by his family. I mean. He's always been grateful and had issues dealing with the weight of what he was given after his early years of being left behind.

This isn't about Devon thinking that he's better than Nate. This is about someone in a new industry not having respect for those that he works for. Devon had valid reasons for not providing details, and by Nate going with his gut, he's putting things at risk.

Perhaps we're seeing Devon's true colours. I'm remembering a look on Devon's face when he saw Chance playing with the baby a while ago. It was nasty, and so was the look he gave Nate after the speech. I think he's sulky, whiny, and pouty - certainly not the saint he and other people think he is. The only time I thought he had a shred of personality is when he was with Elena.

Devon is definitely irritated with Nate for some reason and I saw it before Lily offered the job to Nate, when Lilly was pitching it Devon looked as if he was expecting for Nate to turn it down, when he questioned Nate about leaving the medical field Nate explained to him that it’s been on his mind for a while and that Ashland is the one that made him interested in going into the business field and he even said he took a few business classes while he was in college too. So yes Devon has been having a issue with Nate, he even squirmed when Nate moved in next door. Devon is acting like Nate is trying to take over his life or over shadow him. I also think Devon still has some lingering feelings for Elena and by them moving in next door it’s bothering him more now that she’s closer. I won’t be surprised if we start seeing Elena and Devon running in to each other in the hallway more often. It’s something wrong with Devon when it comes to Nate and its not all business related. I noticed when Devon and Amanda had dinner one time with Elena and Nate Devon was the only one that seemed uncomfortable and the same thing happened when He and Amanda brought over a house warming bottle of wine and Elena was dressed to the 9’s waiting on Nate and invited them to stay, Devon looked uncomfortable then and Amanda was uncomfortable because of Devon. I truly believe he’s still in love with Elena.

Devon is still feeling some type of way about Nate and Elena. Devon was acting funny before Nate took the job. He was acting funny when he realized Nate had moved back in across the hall.

Devon is a control freak jerk. Period. It is the source of all his negative behavior. He does have a good side too otherwise no one would work with him. He has a problem with Hate in particular but it's not isolated to him. Remember the way he attacked Lily over Hillary's death.

Devon wasn't happy with Nate's takeover but did not blast him but gave him a what the heck look. The question is - what is Nate's problem? He acts as if Devon doesn't know what he's doing. Acting as if he's in charge and disrespecting his bosses, Devon and Lily. I know everything Devon says and does is seen as wrong, but Nate was wrong here. If he keeps it up, he should be fired. He should feel comfortable expressing his opinions but not go rogue when he doesn't get his way. Nate is on a real power trip.

I knew the writers would work to destroy this family. Sigh!

Devon definitely has a problem where Nate is concerned. I think Devon thinks he's top banana, and he's mad that Nate is proving to be good at business right off the bat. Devon can be gracious and conciliatory toward Nate as long as he isnt succeeding handily.

Maybe part of the problem is that Devon is jealous of Nate because Nate has a college education, went to medical school and then became a surgeon. It's obvious the guy has some brains. Did Devon even go to college? Maybe Devon is proud of himself for being more successful than Nate but, now that Nate has invaded Devon's space (the business world), Devon cant handle it.

It's just part of how arrogant Devon has been for a long time. He probably thinks he's better than Lily too. His arrogance pervades his life. He cant accept the that anyone could possibly be as good as he is or, heaven forbid, better! Devon has a real problem and it's going to bite him one of these days.

Simply put, I just think Devon doesn't trust Nate. Nate has had issues with boundaries.....sure what Nate did turned out good, but what if it didn't. He went against what the Leadership wanted. For me Devon was already hesitant about this whole merger and only seemed to do it after Lily's insistence and the use of Neal's wishes....I just don't think he's comfortable with the whole merger or with Nate. And at the end of the day, Nate's an employee who only stands to lose a job if something goes wrong....Devon will lose a company. I like both Nate and Devon and I actually see alittle "sibling rivilary" although they're not siblings.

I think only time will tell if it actually went well. I think what Nate did will cause a huge mess that Devon will be left to clean up. I agree that Devon has reservations about the merger, but I think he will come around. Ultimately, I think he'll like working with Lily. I don't think Nate will last long in the business. In most businesses, he would have been fired on the spot.

What I saw today was that Devon knows how to stick to the script and follow the plan and Nate knows how to read the room and adapt on the fly. Together they could balance each other out, which could work well, but if I could have only one of them on my leadership team I’d choose Nate.
