    Why is Victor protecting Victoria?

He either can not see Victoria’s inability to run the company, or he refuses to acknowledge that his protege is way over her head.
It is hard for me to comprehend that such an accomplished businessman like Victor Newman would put a blind eye to the doings of his daughter.

Victor's "Victoria must never be criticized" attitude is getting pathologically silly.

It is, since Victoria was never fit for CEO in the first place.

Yes and he warns Adam about even hinting a bad thought about Victoria but then everyone else is allowed to treat him (Adam) like dirt and there's no similar warning. It's obvious the show is aware because Adam has become the audience's greek chorus - he says exactly what we do about Victoria getting a vacay at a spa instead of being fired after demonstrating monstrous incompetence - but the show continues to play it where Victoria never gets her comeuppance and Victor keeps kissing her butt, against all tangible evidence that he should.

I just posted about this in another thread. Vicki is effectively dog-walking Victor. Oh, how TGVN has fallen!

What's really an enigma is that a few years ago Victor wanted Victoria out and Adam, or even Nick, to take over.

I don't know but it just seems to me that Victor is just being very protective of Victoria because she came close to death in that car accident recently. I don't think he wants to add to her pain by suddenly ripping the CEO chair from her even though he knows Adam is the one he wants in that chair in my opinion

I don't think he wants Adam in the chair. I think he wants the two of them running things together. He has said repeatedly what a good job Victoria is doing. And they were all fooled by Ashland for a long time and that includes Victor.

In the end, it will be Victor being right about Ashland. Victoria will suffer greatly IMO.

Victoria made an error in judgement by allowing Ashland to act as co-CEO and meshing the personal with the profession. The merger doubled the size of the company and otherwise, excluding Ashland's involvement was a good deal. So when her emotions aren't involved, she runs the company well. Her weakness is her heart. Victor is trying to protect her heart and his company. If decisions of the heart are removed, she can effectively run the company and she has done just that.

              I agree.

NE has done very well under Victoria’s leadership.

I think it's because Victor feels he cannot trust Adam, leaving Victoria his only choice. To me it's obvious that he doesn't trust Adam and probably vice versa.
Back when Victoria was getting married Adam was being all-dedicated to Victor. Now, not so much. I don't know what it is with Adam and Victor but it seems like they both distrust each other and probably always will.
Frankly, I think anyone would be more dependable than Victoria!

LOL!! Victor and his mini-me Adam are too much alike. Neither one trusts the other

Well, it's pretty obvious that Victoria IS Victor's favorite child. He approved of Ashtoria's relationship because of how big their business combined could profit NE, it all fell apart once Ash's lies were discovered, Victor played a part in Victoria's heartbreak, he saw her relationship with Ash more as business move, didn't even care that he could break her heart, not right away at least, he was so happy that Victoria got away from Billy, l hear that, and now he's even fighting her battles like she's this helpless victim. Nick was always jealous of Adam and now Victoria, he has two competitions, lol, but lately, all last year, Victoria was Victor's number one. He never wastes an opportunity to remind Adam that he better be a good brother to Victoria or else. Good riddance. Ouch.
