Phyllis: Right where I need to Be

After Amanda told Phyllis Jack is smart enough to see through any of Diane’s schemes - so like don’t get involved, Phyllis commented that She (Phyllis) was right where she needed to be. Made me feel that her bedding Jack was so she could get closer to Jack in order to fend off Diane and “protect” him. This was after Amanda was taken aback by Phyllis’ comment about wishing she could be the one to kill Diane. I find it funny how Amanda hears these things coming out out Phyllis’ mouth and isn’t sure how she should take them. Last time was when Phyllis alluded to her intentionally running over someone (Christine).

When Amanda suggested maybe Phyllis should thank Diane for getting Phyllis to move forward with her relationship with Jack, Phyllis adamantly denied that Diane had anything to do with it, but looking at Amanda’s expression after that denial I don’t see that she believed Phyllis. Amanda has been one to share her thoughts but steps back from them and supports Phyllis. Kind of like what she did with Billy. Keeps her on Phyllis’ good side.

We saw 6 months of Phack denying their feelings. IMO Diane is going to be used as angst for Phack, but Phack's love prevails in the end.

Phyllis knows Jack would never romance Diane.

    Phack is getting angst.

Exactly. Jack and Phyllis have been headed toward this reunion for months but adding Diane has added another layer. It also was a good reason for Kyle and Summer to return.

Exactly… In the end Diane is basically angst for the actual couples in this story… and that’s Phack and Skyle! I see Diane’s presence causing problems for Jack and Phyllis no doubt but like you said Jack would never romance Diane.. he had no use for her before and still doesn’t imo. As for Summer and Kyle il
sure Diane will do her best to get between them as well but like always in the end I believe Diane will be on the losing end again but no matter what I’ll enjoy the drama to come still after all this is a soap and angst for couples is a staple in them.

Adding Diane brings some soapy drama and messing things to put the couples through.

And now with the previews, the writers are adding another layer with Ashland and his conversation with Diane.

Diane so far is showing no interest in Jack as far as I can see. Phyllis hatred for Diane is wayyy stronger than her “feelings” for Jack it’s obvious. Phyllis will screw up on her own and you Phyllis and Jack fans should know that Phyllis is always always her own worst enemy. Diane really don’t have to do much of nothing

I honestly don’t think Diane cares to “get with” Jack. Phyllis is always jealous and acts paranoid and that’s how I see her now with respect to Diane - in her mind Diane wants Jack. With Phyllis coming after her constantly I can see Diane trying to get back at her though and play into Phyllis’ insecurities.

Who knows what Diane is truly up to. But she clearly enjoys pushing people’s buttons and getting under their skin. And Phyllis unfortunately falls for it every time, lol.

Phyllis and Jack have been dancing around their feelings for each other for a long time. I don’t think it happened because Phyllis wants to protect Jack from Diane. She could do that by simply being his friend. But I do think Diane made her realize she could lose Jack.

Losing Jack would only happen to Phyllis if Jack wanted to be with Diane. So what does Phyllis really feel about Jack?

Phyllis loves Jack. That’s how she really feels. She’s wanted to be with him for a long time now, but both she and Jack were too afraid to take the risk. I think Phyllis has grown a lot. She has selflessly been there for Jack in these past months. They’ve become closer to each other and more trusting of each other.

Diane will conquer whatever and whomever she can dig her fangs and claws into, if they show any sign of goodness or weakness.
History will bear that out. Personality disorders do not change or evolve, and I would throw sociopath into that.

@TunerEyes--who is the sociopath other than Diane? I do not think Ashland can be termed that way.
He feels guilt and remorse constantly. So does Phyllis and she atones and apologizes.

I think Phyllis is. I don’t see her truly sorry for anything she does. Certainly not running over Christine and accepting responsibility ever. She goes out of her way to take down people she does like even if it’s illegal, she simply does care or think things ever apply to her. She chastises others actions when she does the same or worse. And she drones on and on and is very obnoxious and loud, shoving her face in other people’s faces.

Between the two I’d much rather watch Diane whether she is changed or not. She’s a much more watchable interesting character with various levels of emotions. And she has been at least seemingly honest in acknowledging her past mistakes and apologizing for them to people she wronged. More than I can say for Phyllis.

Phyllis may have been written that way years ago, but she is very much aware of past sins and instead of creating chaos and
mayhem she is protective of Jack and Summer. Amanda would hardly make a good friend of a sociopath.

It's not obvious IMO. I won't deny that Phyllis hurt Jack but we've seen Phyllis in denial for months. Diane was a pain to Phack for back in the day, and will probably continue to be. We don't know the future. Maybe Jack will screw things up.

Phyllis can be her own worst enemy, that is true. But, at this moment, Phyllis has no trouble voicing her feelings for Diane. As for Jack, these two have been dancing around each other for months saying what they thought the other one wanted to hear. I think their date night will open the door to a discussion about what they really are feeling.

Also Phyllis and Jack haven’t hurt one another any worse than some couples on the show have ( Shick, Victor/Nikki, Billy and whoever ?) but I mean there’s very few couples on soaps you can point to and say they haven’t hurt one another at one time… if any couple has the history like Phack does then you can say the same thing! That’s the risk involved though when you put your heart on the line and give a relationship a chance again… you may risk it all for nothing or you may find the one you’re meant to be with forever…. Or at least for however long before the writers break you up again

I don't get that vibe from Phyllis that she is bedding Jack just to fend off Diane. When Phyllis looks at Jack, I see a lot of love there. Phyllis is enjoying being in the company of Jack. When he went off to New York on business and didn't tell her, she was so bothered by that. Phyllis back then was playing it safe because may be at that time she just wasn't ready, she also was concerned that she might hurt Jack again something she doesn't want to do ever again. These last months have been leading Phyllis and Jack right where they are today.

Phyllis after devoting years to Nick and not getting a ring might have been playing hard to get with Jack. He sure kept asking and making romantic gestures. I think Phyllis wants to be married, needs that security. I still think her paranoia over Diane prompted her to bed him, maybe not so unlike Lola giving into Kyle when Summer was more than willing to bed him and wanted him for herself. Viewers on here brought that up as Lola’s reasoning (Kyle sure wanted her then and was serenading her outside her room), so don’t see this that much different.

As for Phyllis being so upfront and honest, if she really wanted him to stop her from going to Milan to live and work, I didn’t see her being honest with Jack about her feelings.

Thank you reminded of the Milan job offer. Phyllis’ body language did seem to indicate that she wanted Jack to stop her. Lauren said the same thing to him as he was being coy with her then Phyllis strolled into Society and Jack had the biggest smile on his face to his Red again. And, if I am not mistaken, Phyllis told Jack that she turned down the job because GC is home and it’s where she wants to be, as she is all smiles with Jack.

This last time wasn’t it only about 18 months that Phyllis and Nick were together. He married Phyllis twice and she had his daughter so it’s not like they never took that step. Phyllis did want more from the relationship this last time but Nick wasn’t in the same place. She said, it’s it and walked away. She has never been seen pinning for Nick. And, if all she wanted was to be married, Jack made it perfectly clear that he still loves her. Phyllis could have said the word in November and Jack would have married her.

And if Phyllis told Amanda that Diane had nothing to do with her evening with Jack.

I love Phyllis but this post is mostly on the money. I do believe Diane really wants Jack though. Diane is far more coy and subtle about her intentions. She's very smart because she knows that by playing it cool, Phyllis' will naturally have a hyperaggressive response to anything she does. Over time, she looks like the levelheaded one, while Phyllis, little by little will come across as more and more unstable.

Jack has been pretty upfront about his feelings for Phyllis for quite some time. Phyllis didn't really act on them for MONTHS, because ultimately when it's all said and done, she's not THAT into Jack. She enjoys the attention he gives her, and only her, but actions always speak louder than words. I've never seen Phyllis shy with men, but now all of a sudden, she's coy.

Only after Diane shows up and makes that little comment, is Phyllis sent into a tailspin where she beds Jack.

Should be interesting to see the state of Jack and Phyllis should Diane actually leave town. Something tells me Phyllis will be saying "Jack I don't want to hurt you. I respect you and our friendship too much."

I respectfully, but completely, disagree. Phyllis and Jack both wanted a relationship with each other long before Diane crawled out of her grave. To begin with, Phyllis admitted, not long after Jack made the confession that he was still in love with her, that a part of her would always love him in that way, too. Then, after an appropriate amount of time had passed from Phyllis eventually breaking up with Nick, she and Jack began flirting with each other. Jack sent her a Thanksgiving dinner and ate virtually with her while he was on the plane helping find Abby and Chance and discussed how he felt about Phyllis with Ashley. He invited her to go with him to baby Dominic’s Welcome Home party, etc. They would hug, kiss on the cheek occasionally and slowly grow closer. Then after Jack asked Phyllis to Christmas Eve at the Abbotts I think she felt a little uncomfortable with the pending ambush from his family that would more than likely occur. She politely declined without giving a true reason. His feelings might have gotten a little hurt and so he backed off and then went on the business trip he failed to tell her about or keep in touch with while he was gone. Then of course Phyllis got hurt feelings. She decided to take Summer’s job offer in Milan because of it. Phyllis really wanted Jack to beg her not to go. She even spaced out for a moment while talking to him before she left, fantasizing about it. But Jack couldn’t read her mind and was afraid to take a chance that his heart would be broken so he supported her regardless of how he truly felt. When Phyllis returned, she and Jack discussed being together, but kept not wanting to risk hurting each other or their friendship. But both still wanted to be with each other deep down. Everyone around them could see it - Amanda, Michael, Lauren, Tracy, Billy, Summer, etc. Then all of the drama happened with Keemo, Allie, and Diane. All of it brought them closer together as Phyllis supported Jack unconditionally, dropping everything to hop on planes and be by his side. And even Allie, who had just met Jack and Phyllis, could sense their bond. Their trust in each other is stronger now. Phyllis wouldn’t leave Jack if Diane disappeared from their lives. She loves him. JMHO.

These are not pre-teens here were discussing. If Phyllis had wanted Jack really in a romantic relationship she knows how to do it. Jack made it easy for her too month after month. Upfront, honest (sarcasm) Phyllis turned him away month after month. No wonder the guy looked shocked with the kiss and come hither for sex look from her. The only thing that changed in all those months until the other day was the appearance of Diane.

Phyllis when she went to L.A. was only Jack’s best friend, same status when Diane showed up for the alone Kyle meeting and with him and his family. Phyllis has been unable to wrap her head around how anyone could talk to Diane let alone think of giving her a second chance. But they are and she’s feeling helpless to control the situation. As recently as the other day She told Jack and Ashley that Diane was leaving town. She was sure of it. Like Mean Phyllis throwing Diane out of her hotel was going to deter Diane from getting a chance to reconcile with Kyle. I laughed hard each time she said that. Only until Diane showed up at the wedding and wanted to talk to Summer and left by saying Jack was softening his stance did we see Phyllis decide to bed Jack. Cause and effect pure and simple.

Actually, Jack didn’t make it easy for Phyllis, imo. One minute he was flirting with her, the next he was telling her that if they were to start something, he didn’t want to get hurt like in the past, or ruin their friendship. Neither did Phyllis. And he left on that business trip for weeks without communicating with her. Granted, Phyllis was sending mixed signals as well. And she did back off for good while Jack was going through the loss of Keemo, etc. Taking advantage of Jack while he was vulnerable would have been a mistake. True, Phyllis could have come out at anytime and stated what she wanted, but Jack could have as well. Neither did. They continued to live in denial of their feelings. It doesn’t mean they didn’t still have them, however childish they may have acted.

        Excellent recap.

It’s all part of the slow burn. I heard SW state she was hired in December so Diane has always been part of Jack and Phyllis’ journey back to each other; along with a way to get Kyle and Summer back to GC. I didn’t like her initial return but why the writers did it makes sense to me now. And now with the previews, Ashland is being added. It really has become an umbrella story now as more layers are being added.

Exactly! Diane even flashed back to Teriah’s wedding, where Jack was telling Phyllis it was so nice not to have to think about Diane for one night. Then Phyllis grabbed his hand and dragged him on the dance floor to distract him. The jealousy is there, regardless of romantic feelings or not. I’m not sure whether Diane wants Jack for herself or just can’t stand to see Phyllis happy with him (and he with her). At any rate, Jack has never loved Diane the way he has always loved Phyllis and I’m sure that still bothers her to no end, lol.

I don't think Diane wants Jack either, but she is having fun messing with phyllis. It's funny to see phyllis' insecurities on full display. Her sleeping with Jack was just her way of marking her territory like a dog peeing on something it wants to claim as its own. I always liked Jack and phyllis together and hope they stay together, but I do hope Diane keeps up her games just to watch phyllis acting the way she has been acting since Diane rolled back into town. It's beyond hilarious. Maybe Diane will go all cougar and we'll have a Noah/Diane match up. Talk about shaking things up!!!

I absolutely love the way Diane is playing with Phyllis...big ole red is running scared, Phyllis is a very insecure character, she uses her big mouth to cover that up, but she never really intimidates anyone..she is a joke actually...Diane is very much in control of the situation for now, I love how she causes havoc whereever she goes, she is definitely waking up the hypocrites of GC...
