Champagne to celebrate the Newman family

Everyone ran into each other and decided to have a champagne toast to celebrate the take over. My one question is why was Nikki drinking champagne? Are we supposed to forget about her alcohol problem?

Exactly what I was thinking when they did that toast.

I was wondering about her drinking, too. There was no mention of ginger ale.

That did cross my mind, but it was probably meant to assume she was drinking something non-alcoholic. Assumed rather than feel it necessary to mention it..

I also laughed when Victor said “ to all things Newman”, I surely thought Ashland was going to say and “Locke”, guess it was missed opportunity.

I haven't seen the show yet, but I will watch now to see if Nikki's drink is a different color than what the rest of them are drinking. Sometimes it's a shade darker or lighter than the others who are drinking alcohol.

They did all look the same. I wondered if she would toast but not drink anything - looked as though a good amount in her glass was gone.

I think it was Victoria that arranged the champagne and told the waiter to include something non-alcoholic. Usually they say to Nicki "here's you're sparkling cider" maybe they have come to a point in time that they assume everyone knows she is not drinking booze.

That's a good call OP because Nikki indeed had the same drink as everyone else. May be when Victoria went to the bar to order the drinks, she made sure to include a non alcoholic drink for Nikki. Just trying to make sense of this big error because we all know Nikki is an alcoholic.

It was definitely sparkling cider. If you compare everyone else's glass to Nikki's, hers was a more orangey color as opposed to the champagne which was more yellow.
They made a point of Victoria walking over to the bar and putting the order in to the bartender. Im sure she told him to give her mom the sparkling cider.

Totally agree. Nikki’s glass had a slightly darker colored drink in it. And she took a sip when the toast was made. There’s no way anyone present would have ordered champagne without telling the bar to make one drink sparkling cider or whatever else. Didn’t need to be said aloud as a constant reminder of Nikki’s alcoholism. It’s a given that her family and friends would be sure she receives a non-alcoholic drink.

No, I paid close attention when I just watched it. Her liquid was the same color as all the rest. They didn't make any mention of her's being non-alcoholic like they always do. They always make mention of it or have two bottles at the table, or her's is an obvious different color.

As said above, I thought she would just toast to clink the glasses. They didn't show her drink any. But in the later scenes her glass was mostly empty. That was the first time they've ever skimmed over it. Not a mention of it at all by anyone. Very odd.

I closely looked on purpose and to me, Nikki’s glass had a slightly darker colored drink in it. And she did sip with everyone else after the toast. There was no need to mention it. Her family and friends would always make sure she received a non alcohol drink in a situation like this group toast. It’s a given. No need to keep mentioning her alcoholism. That just makes it worse for her. Her family and friends respect her condition and don’t unnecessarily verbalize it. I have a strict dietary regime for health reasons. My family and friends know when we are together never to observe what I order or choose to eat and not to talk about it. It only makes it harder for me.

I think Victoria probably ordered her a non alcoholic drink because she went to the bar to order it.

I purposely looked. The liquid in Nikki’s glass was a darker color than the glasses which had “champagne.”

I know you must be right, but I purposely looked too and thought all the drinks were the same shade. Nikkis's didn't stand out as a different color. They usually make the non-al drink obviously much lighter or darker but they didn't this time. It wasn't obvious.

Like you said, they probably just don't feel the need to mention it anymore, but it made the appearance of Nikki drinking alcohol. I'm not the only one who thought so.

This. They didn't include it in the writing but as viewers maybe they want us to interpret it.
