Why Are the Writers Dumbing Down Lily?

The writing for Lily is just an embarrassment now.

I am shocked at Lilly's response to Billy's actions. She has started to be an "enabler" ! What an outrage for a once smart, savvy woman. She thinks his behavior is sexy?

I too am so disappointed, I guess she had to be dumbed down to be with Billy. I am hoping for a Lily Noah connection.

If it were between Billy and Cane I prefer Cane, why separate her from Czne to put her with an even worse loser.

Also she seems to have become Billy and Victoria's nanny. Yet she was hardly involved in Canes little boys life. Talk about not learning from your past mistakes.

It's obvious there's no depth of dumbness to which they'll sink--in order to showcase Billy's dumbness! The actress is just acting what's written for her! Both she/Lily deserve better!

The writing for Y&R has been an embarrassment for 2 years and it all started with the biggest RE-WRITE that we call Skyle.

The dumbing down of Victor as well.

Phyllis and Nick...I love you always blah blah blah. Phyllis talking trash about everyone in GC and no mention of her past deeds.

Sharon going through everything she went through without Nick by her side was a joke.

Devon, Nate, Amanda and Elena storylines are so boring.

Mariah becoming Abby's BEST FRIEND over night.

If Lily had any self-respect then she would dump Billy. I have been in her situation with flawed men that were obsessed with their exes.
I'm mixed and a lot of my relationships were with white men. I put up with a lot of garbage because I thought that was the price of keeping them.
Some women think they should just settle for anyone, but they deserve better. It's okay to be alone and focus on yourself. That's why I went to art school.

Meanwhile...he did not course correct. He created a mess that could have been avoided, and had no other options because he didn't get the result he wanted.
He'd already spent the money.
He'd already brought the other guy to the wedding
The "reveal" already occured
And he lost.

But sure....he course corrected because he finally stopped fighting a losing battle only because he had no more cards to play. Sure.

I believe he is hoping Gaines stops the wedding. If he were resigned to Victoria's wedding going off, he would be out looking for Gaines and trying to stop him. He won't because he doesn't see Gaines being there as his fault. Once again it will be someone else's fault if things go wrong.

And Lily? Relenting and letting Billy go to the wedding instead of insisting he straighten his own mess. Leaving it to Victor. Sad.

I could not believe Lilly!!!!!!!!! She should be furious and hurt that he has gone thru all this for his ex-wife. Instead she glosses over it and hops into bed with him and rewards him. And what's with this "course correct" phrase?? Lilly used to be tough, she just irks me now. She likes her role at ChanceComm more than her own pride. What a doormat.

I don't see it as a dumbing down of Lily - she has a long history of not being smart or tough in romantic relationships, This is what she does - enables the bad behavior of her romantic partners. Of course, she's not the only one, but outside of a couple of flashes of strength over the years, I've never seen Lily as a tough, strong character.

thecourt99 I LOVED Dru, even (especially!) when I hated her! She had the spirit of a fighter. You're totally right - Lily has none of that. Given both Dru and Neil, it's odd that she picked up none of their spirit. I don't know - I just have almost always found Lily to be boring and uninteresting. The last time I was charmed by Lily was probably when Davetta Sherwood played her.

A kindred spirit! I actually made the mistake of believing that they would write differently for Lily.. They showed Lily in scenes with Nicki, and Victor, and even against Victoria. She wasn't a shrinking violet. She matched wits with the best of them and wouldn't back down. I was hopeful and maybe that's the issue. They show something against them, but she allows her partners to walk all over her. It's a shame.

Thank you for sharing this. As a woman of mixed heritage myself (but identifies/presents as AA) There are a lot of undercurrents to that relationship on screen that I won’t get into. But as a woman and a AA there are major issues with the writing for Lily on both levels.

To write Billy as if he is her ideal or any woman’s is problematic.

As some have said in other threads here rewriting the narrative of Billy’s actions in minutes as somehow heroic or loving. Shows that either Billy is really good at gaslighting Lily and sadly Lily is good at gaslighting herself, which is really disturbing.

People always compare Lily to Dru but from my own personal experience I love my mother in some ways she is my best friend but in a lot of ways we are very different personality wise! I always felt Lily was more like Olivia my mom says I am a lot like one of her sisters and that my sisters are like her other sisters in terms of personality.

The question is: WHY is LILY being written this way and WHO in the Writing Room believes that it is such a wonderful idea? NONE of this acting is her doing and all that I can say (civilly) is that her character can, and should, be written more RESPECTFULLY. It is bad enough that she was made her brother's footstool, who eventually facilitated her incarceration--after which she was written to give him a pass for ? Lily is beautiful, smart, wealthy, and Legacy. SURELY, she can be written w/more dignity! ?
