What Happened to Lily?

I used to like her but she could leave tomorrow and I wouldn’t care. As she stands now she exists only to have sex with Billy. Tuesday’s episode was the worst. Five minutes in the beginning the fight, she capitulates again and thinks he is cute.
Then at the end for 30 seconds to be insecure.

I was happy when she returned, I even looked forward to Lily and Billy but this ain’t it.

It is sad but she is irrelevant. I saw this elsewhere and it is true: You could substitute Tara for Lily have the same dialogue and it would not make a whit of difference. There is nothing in the writing that distinguishes her from any other female character. Or lends to her nearly 20 year history on the show

No family she doesn’t discuss them, every conversation is about Billy, she doesn’t have dialogue where his name doesn’t come out of her mouth.

The writing is misogynistic and boring how many times can they fight over the same thing and then make up have sex and fight about it again.

The tptb need to end them and write a story for Lily exclusively.

Let her realize that Billy will never change and let her date around.

If Sally can date Jack so can Lily. If Adam wants a fresh start date him. She can date Nick or cast someone new (preferably African American) for her to date.

I feel exactly the same, her scenes with Billy make me gag. I want to see Billy tell her he's done with her because he wants Vikki back. If we have to wait for her to make the move, she will be laying in that same bed for years to come.

I've always loved Lily. The writers write nonsensical storylines for the Lily character... I do believe the writers have to take the blame. Having said all of that, Billy is the absolute worse man Y&R could have coupled her with. They need to hire two new male actors, one for Lily and one for the miserable, insufferable Victoria.

It's sad but true! I had high hopes when CK came back and she was getting lots of airtime but it's all about Billy! Sadly as well I was excited about Moses return and thinking it would expand The Hamilton/Winters/Hastings (Barber) family storylines but it becomes clearer everyday Moses was brought back for a story with Faith Newman.

The writers did not care about Lily or Winters' fans enough to create a new character to be her love interest. They had Lilly divorcing Cane, who is better than all the men in her age group, and then put her in a relationship with one of the said men. (Lily will never be the main love of Billy, Nick or Adam.)

Billy & Lily are hot but yeah they don't work long-term. They work as like a ONS or fling type but not long-term. I think Cane is the love of Lily's life but they should have used this time to rebuild a single Lily.

Lily & Nick could work but just like Billy/Lily they won't be long-term. I agree she isn't a main love of Billy, Adam, Nick but Lily/Nick would at least be interesting.

I wouldn't be opposed to bringing back Noah for Lily. Always wanted Dru & Sharon's kids together.

I've never been a Lily fan, to be honest, but she deserves better than Billy and the actress deserves better than this storyline. She rarely discusses or sees her twins and where the heck is Sam? Isn't he living with her? Whatever.

I've never been a big fan of Lily either, but I agree they're taking her down a bad road. Every time Victoria's name is mentioned she has to jump all over Billy to prove he's "hers". I don't see them lasting long-term either. I think it's all leading to a Villy reunion.

Reading through some of the comments here. If people who are not fans of Lily recognize what a bad pairing this is and how bad Lily is written because of it … then it is a bad pairing and it is time to end this.

And I will say the writing for Lily is utterly misogynistic.

Since Nick delcare his love for and lived with 3 women (Sharon, Chelsea and Phyliss) within a year, I cannot take him seriously. (I did care for NIck before this.) Non-Lily/Winters' fans, get kicks-n-giggles seeing Lily being passed around from 1 man to another knowing she will never be their number 1, but as her fan, I find it disgusting. If I did not think Y&R was too Newman oriented, I would be open to Lily and Noah, but for me it's a hard no.

The same thing that happened to Victoria. They have both been dumbed down to be with Billy Abbott. Here we have Victoria chasing after a man who doesn't want her when she is beautiful and was smart. It's disgusting and sick.

It is the poor writing, in my opinion. The characters are being written for plot and not for character growth. This is why I have said all along that JG doesn't know how to write a soap opera. If this were a procedural drama, it wouldn't be as much of an issue. Too many of the characters on Y&R are interchangeable, and that is horrible for a soap.

I think the thing with Lily is that she has always gotten this criticism about being judgmental thrown at her especially when she dealt with her father, Cain and Hilary. Maybe CK or the head writer decided to make her less so with Billy, as a contrast to everyone else being judgmental towards him. Didn't they have a talk at the beginning of their relationship where Lily told Billy that she wouldn't judge him but try to understand his situation better, because she isn't perfect herself after serving that prison sentence. Also in real life, some people can decide to be different or change themselves to not be so much one way with a particular person.

There is a difference from what you describe from what is happening now though.

Lily is interchangeable with any woman in the cast there is nothing unique about her, she isn’t even tied to her family that much.

As for not judging, when it comes to ridiculous ideas that can destroy the company she has every right to judge.

When she takes a back seat to his obsession she also has a right to judge.

That is not being judgemental in a negative sense. That is self respect and letting her self get run over by Billy every time. Or just constantly placating him with sex. Billy ticked her off and she instantly forgave him twice in one night, no woman I know would do that at all.

And it still doesn’t excuse Lily being written exclusively for Billy. No friends, hardly any family we never see her at business on her own. It is just about Billy 24/7.

The show can't erase years of bad writing for Lily. But they can use Lily's past for soapy character-driven stories. Lily can have an epiphany that she "lost herself" in Billy, rather than to deal with the emotional traumas of Hilary's accidental death, her prison sentence, estrangement from her brother, divorce and loss of the beloved father who was her rock. As Lily evolves she can rebuild relationships with Abby and Nate, and maybe become close with Sharon and Elena. Address unresolved resentment toward Devon. Have an occasional visit from Mattie or Charlie. Nurture her little brother Moses. There's a lot that can be done with Lily, besides limiting her to the roles of Billy's play thing and babysitter.

I have always liked Lily, especially CK's Lily. She is beautiful and has grown so much as an actress. But...this pairing with Billy has ruined her for me. Why she is willing to put up with the everlasting antics of Billy Abbott the perpetual child is a mystery. He treats her badly and lies to her continually. It is just an awful pairing for Lily.
