Thoughts about the lack sets being used

I understand that covid maybe has caused a staff shortage to set up and take down sets. So I'm willing to wait until this pandemic is over before seriously griping about the lack of sets. Well, I want to gripe a little.

We have seven home sets — Sharon, Adam, Devon, Victoria, Abby, sometimes Lola, and Jack. What's happened to the Newman ranch and Nick's house on the ranch? Phyllis' high-rise apt.? What about Michael and Lauren's apartment? Nate's house that he bought from Lily - never to be seen again? Why did they even have him buy it if we're never going to see it? They could have had Lily just mention that she sold the house. Where did Chloe and Kevin move to? Mariah and Tessa's crappy little place has been awol for a long time. And then there's everybody else who lives in a hotel. I assume Gloria will move in there if she gets a residence at all.

It's business sets that are seriously lacking. We see Victoria's office and Lily's. We've never seen Billy's. And is all Newman and Fenmore business done in a meeting room? Where did Jack's office and reception area go? Why doesn't Lauren have an office? Sally doesn't even have a secretary desk. She seems to work solely at Society. Doesn't the Grand Phoenix have an office, for goodness sakes?! Phyllis works at the bar, er, registration desk.

It seems there is nowhere to eat in GC but Society and no coffee shops but Crimson Lights. Top of the Tower is kaput as is the GCAC dining room.

I'm bringing all this up because it's boring to see the same sets over and over again. I wish TPTB would realize that.

I so agree. It’s sad that so many sets are gone. The sets, especially homes, add so much to the storylines and just great visual appeal too.

Agree. Sets are characters too. Wish there was a bit more diversity and creativity where scenes are done.

I'm sure that covid and the budget are the reasons why sets are so scarce. It really is hard to overlook sometimes though.

There isn't a single conference or meeting room for Fenmore. Lauren and Sally meet all the time at Society or CL. Summer works for Lauren now but still spends all her time with Kyle at Jabot. Meanwhile Mariah actually works at Jabot and is never seen there. So if Fenmore at least had a meeting room it would help.

Lily and Billy sleep together at the GP. Lily's home was nice. We've never seen where Billy lives.

I really do miss the ranch and Nick's house. I hope those come back.

On the positive side, Victoria's home is back, and more conversations are happening in the few homes we see. But I'd sure like to see way less of the GP.

I like Victoria's living room. I remember quite a few years ago her living room was like the set from the 1950s sitcom Father Knows Best. It was when Billy Miller was still playing Billy Abbott.

I am a bit confused about the constant use of the boardroom. People shouldn't be using the boardroom as an office; it is for meetings, conferences. How silly and cheap!

Perhaps they could have more sets if they got rid of the lady in green and several actors who have no story.

JM said several months ago Nick's home set was not being used due to Covid. It is not just the setting up and taking down but also the extensive cleaning that has to be done. So I do think that is a key factor in this. I do wonder though if we can see the Abbott and Chancellor homes, why not the Newman ranch?

I am always wondering why they use the boardroom now instead of the CEO's office.

The lady in green is supposed to be the receptionist at the Grand Phoenix .. if they didn't have her there it would be just Phyllis standing there staring at an empty foyer. I hope one day there will be "extras" again so they can actually show some guests checking in. Same goes for the guy wearing the purple shirt at Society. He just walks around or pretends to be busy at the empty bar.

This is such a small thing to gripe about on my opinion. To me the sets don’t really matter the story does. They could have a room with two chairs and I would be ok with it.

For now the sets are what they are if it is due to Covid so be it. If the show just has a limited number of sets going forward I am ok with that too because I am grateful that Y&R is still on the air. Take the blessings where you can get them.

And Billy lives in the Grand Phoenix too and has been for more than a year.

Covid / budget are certainly factor but it's more a TPTB decision
