Adam: Like watching a merry-go-round that never stops

All the actors who have played Adam have been great; so I'm not going to talk about acting but about the character.

Frankly, I find Adam as written so very tedious. In all the years he's been in GC, has he done anything but try to hurt his father and siblings? That vendetta was good in its first go-round but we're on the third actor now and his single-focus is boring and predictable. Please, writers, give this character something to do besides plot against his family and seethe with resentment.

Every tweet or post I read wants the same as you. Something new, turn a corner, a page, next on the keyboard, move on please! Such a waste. That last scene today of Mark juxtaposed with E B was gorgeous. Dang dude is fine.

After all these years there needs to be some more personal growth. Could have happened if Adam left NE and formed his own company, tried to live his life with his family separately without going back to get involved with Newman battles, many other suggestions have been offered. I think most of us would like to see him and Victor reach a reconciliation.

I do think Adam has grown over the years howevrer -- he found a deep love and trust with Sharon which I think has stayed with him, he moved on and was able to marry Chelsea and be happy and start a family, knows the loss of a baby (the one I think Summer caused to die after a car accident?), knows the fear of a sick child (Connor when he was losing his eye sight), and could feel some empathy for the accidental death of Delia as a result. And please when he realized his car had struck Delia and caused her death, he tried to reach out to Billy through the online news reader comments anonymously but Billy took offense to anyone trying to say the person responsible might not have seen her and it was truly an accident (in part I think this was Billy trying to absolve himself of his responsibilty for Delia's safety). After trying a few times to reach out to Billy to make him understand, Adam was hurt Billy couldn't see or understand that was possible. Yes, he had trouble taking responsibility and in little boy fashion when attacked sought to fight back. We saw him break down crying over it alone in his apartment and I truly believe he was devastated by Delia's loss. He did make that confession tape as well.

Adam during MM's time I don't think would be capable of empathy given what he did when Ashley miscarried. The current Adam I think very much has changed in many ways for the better but he's still stuck in getting revenge when someone hurts him but then he has expressed a tremendous amount of compassion for Chloe after her multiple attempts to kill him. Saving Chance's life and bonding with him (guys on the show don't reflect great role models when it comes to friendship) was a rare, new male friendship in his life. Only other friend I can think of he's had since coming to GC was Skye and that was formed from when he was at Harvard and afterwards. He really has had a sad life after coming to GC, all because his father wanted him to be part of his family and help run NE. If it hadn't been for AJ's death coming out the way it did, I feel that he and Alyssa would still be friends or at least not someone that Alyssa would want to do a hit piece on having more compassion than Billy for a young boy defending his mother. Adam still has trouble with relationships. We see it with Chelsea. We see it with Chance. We see it with Victor. He gets upset and unfairly lashes out. I hope he finds some peace and would rather see him fighting in the corporate world than in his personal life.

Good post OP and ICAM. I've always been a fan of Adam - esp. Muhney but have been impressed with Mark Grossman and really like his portrayal. I never thought I would have a negative word to say about this character. But the other day when he appeared and was in his usual lately angst, I said "oh no", frankly it bored and frustrated me. Then when he called someone and asked that Rey be traced after learning about Sharon & Rey getting married- what's with that, and what does he plan to do about any reports he gets? Hate to think he may harm Rey.

I'm so disappointed in the way this sl has gone. Sure I can understand him being freaked out at learning about the death when he was a boy, but it's gone too far IMO. His continued angst and also his pushing Chelsea away doesn't even make sense. I always loved Adam; and I always loved Adam and Chelsea together, but firstly his return and Chelsea's reaction (which I had so looked forward to) and now this current sl has soured all that I once loved.

This sl is going nowhere right now IMO and the terrific character of Adam is being spoiled.

On a side note - he professes his love for Chelsea but as soon as he runs into Sharon, he wants them to get back together. GMAB

Like a little boy who seeks to be loved and understood, unconditionally. Chelsea has disagreed with him on a few things like him being the one who could have killed AJ, that he should put the past behind him without getting his memory, about sending Connor away to school, and most recently about leaving town. So he's been hurt by Chelsea -- the one he thought he could also trust, so natural given his background that he would run to Sharon each time. These were all pretty big issues for him and I think he has come to feel he doesn't have her complete support despite what she says.

I really am enjoying the story lately. They needed Adam and Chelsea for that matter, out of that penthouse and on to something else. I hope Chelsea gets her self a good pairing and story.

I think they have Adam going in the right direction he still has got that little spark in him, saw it today. And of course having him go in the direction of actual chemistry (IMO)With Sharon, thank goodness I hope they keep that up.

I wouldn’t take anything on Twitter or social media in general as any reflection of what an audience wants or likes. Too much skewing involved when you’re talking about the anonymity of such postings.

Everyone mentioning that "Adam is going to do something" must be leading to something big about to happen. If nothing really happens, the disappointment will be huge.

Btw, why did Adam even go to the GP and order a drink today? Just to snark at Phyllis? He was so weird, Phyllis whispered her offer to be his friend, then he blew her off and left. Such a weird scene.

Based on how the conversation began, it seemed to me that Phyllis invited him.

I missed that. Why would Adam even go see her? He was so busy wallowing in his disenchantment. lol

I enjoy the banter between Adam and Phyllis; however, this is more than just banter. Phyllis is angry with Victoria but she wants to keep Nick out of it. Nick could help Phyllis financially and put a stop to any thoughts that Victoria might have to use TGP as revenge against Phyllis. Phyllis won't ask Nick for the money. And, there is no drama in this situation if it wraps up that quickly and clean. Adam has money and he is just as unhappy with Victoria as Phyllis is at the moment. Phyllis, while she is vengeful, she is not in Adam league. This guy is on the edge. And, for all the talk about Adam needing help, he has done nothing to get it. Phyllis needs to stay away from Adam.

            Great observations. Great post OP.

When I saw Adam sitting and staring out the window I thought he was self reflecting. Boy, was I wrong.

He's just as vile as ever. I was disturbed when he burned the picture of Sharon and Rey.

Like Victor, Adam never seems to tire of being so hateful. It's exhausting to watch.

So why did he burn the news article with photo of Sharon and Rey? It was nicely clipped out. Was he angry with Sharon for the engagement, feeling like the last person he trusted and loved was now lost to him? Was this part of having lost everything? Was he thinking that Rey would make it his mission to go after him as a detective so that's why he's snooping on his activities to see who he sees and talks to so he has a heads up on what might be coming from Rey down the road?

Have to say the burning of the photo to me felt very personal and was more about losing Sharon to Rey in marriage knowing Sharon won't want to cross Rey if he'd like to talk or see her again. Something he could be more or less assured of happening since Sharon has told him similar reasons for not wanting to be his therapist and later even as a friend getting together to talk.

Good questions, for sure. I could see him burning Rey out of the picture but to include Sharon was weird.

Considering how he reacted at Chelsea when she question his actions he turn on her real fast. Now that Sharon is marrying Rey he might feel the same way about her too. How dare they not support him no matter what.

What's extremely puzzling is that Adam told Victor he has nothing left to lose alluding to the notion that he lost everything. He still has a fiancee who loves him and he can reunite with Connor at any time so what is he referring to? He needs to channel all of that negative energy into being proactive into pursuing everything he wants whether it's Sharon, revenge on Billy, business, Christian, whatever. He needs clear directive and purpose because aside from loving Sharon - which is not a surprise - as a viewer, I have no clue what he wants because not even Adam knows what he wants. I don't have a problem with how dark his character is being written but the perpetual gloom and doom is tiring. If his name wasn't Adam Newman he wouldn't be getting all this airtime to mope around feeling sorry for himself all over GC. For someone who is smart, cunning and highly intellectual he sure is doing a whole bunch of nothing.

I agree with this post. Josh Griffith and the executive producer need to take the shackles off this vital character. Adam is the natural successor to his father whenever Eric Braeden retires, considering that the man is eighty years old. There is so much left to explore in this character, particularly his years at Harvard and in Manhattan. In so may ways, he has much more possibilities than any character currently on the Y&R canvass. And Mark Grossman is gem of an actor who's far too good to waste on this current storyline. FREE ADAM NEWMAN!

Tired if the same story line re Adam or Phyliss they get pushed come back twice as hard always hurting someone in the process. I would like to see for once come out on top
I would like to see a story line with Adam and Victor against Billy Boy and I would like to see Phyliss best Victoria without everyone turning against her. Time for some change

I feel the same. And now they have made Victoria into another mini Victor wannabe, with Billy as her minion, thus ensuring the destructive rivalry continues.

I must say, that title reflects exactly the way I feel about how Adam has been portrayed on this show. Starting with four actors having played him since he came on the scene.
Each one brought a whole different style. JH was humorous and lighthearted. MM was brooding and dark. All were fair or blond until MG. All had their share of acting chops.
There have been times when the whole family including Victor truly hated him. Now Victor is trying to rehab Adam. It makes the head spin with adjustments.

From my perspective, Adam has become boring. He never does anything that would make people like him or appreciate his talent. It
is time to do something different with Adam.

He is a never-ending gloom and doom character.

With all the bad things that Adam has done and they've been heinous I'm not discounting that he has also saved every single one of his relatives' lives He's saved all the kids' lives he saved he pulled everybody out of the underground collapse oh and doesn't Victoria owe him for little Katie being alive he delivered her and saved her life when she had the concussion plus he saved everybody when the Newman at the tower burned down although he started the fire but he did save everybody's lives so I guess it counts
