They're locked down until July. The article mentions that the stars will be "appearing from home", probably through Skype or something similar.

The last few years they were streamed online but there was a big Hollywood event where they were all at. This time while it will be on TV, the actors will appear from their homes.

I'm delighted to hear this even if it has to be in a different form, given our new circumstances. I've missed seeing the Awards on a network; loved the show.. Not sure why CBS would do this and not televised it to date.

I think you're right about them hurting for programming. In recent years, networks weren't interested in broadcasting the Daytime Emmy Awards during the daytime, let alone prime time.

I was thinking the same thing,these must be desperate time for coming up with network programming. Not sure how you social distance an award show. Can't see people tuning into a zoom award show.

I was struggling trying to watch this award show online kept freezing up. Glad that it's back on television. Can't wait.
