  • Discussion of 5/4/20 Classic Episode

Other than Victor & Nikki, I don't know anyone on today's episode. I see that it's from 1981; I wasn't born until 1984, and the earliest episodes I remember are the early 90s when I started paying attention when my mom had it on when I was home from school. Can anyone provide any insight into who any of these people are?

I was wondering the same thing! I was also born in 1984 so I'm kind of lost. Lol

I started watching in 1983. Don’t remember these people either. So soapy haha.

If you go here you can read all about Vanessa, Lorie, Lance and Lucas - it will take you about 5 minutes and you will see what great soapy stories the great William J. Bell wrote. https://www.soapcentral.com/yr/whoswho/vanessa.php

You will also learn that Lorie Brookes was the only woman to successfully play Victor - it was wonderful!

Other than Victor and Nikki, the only one I recognized was Lorie Brooks and April who was involved with Paul. The first 10 years of the show focused on the Brooks and Foster families. I wish Y&R would show consecutive episodes that cover a particular storyline for viewers to follow. The episodes here and there aren't that interesting because I end up wanting to know what happens next, but the next day is a new show from a different year.

        April ?

I used to think that one day Paul's secretary would go crazy and kidnap him or try to kill Christine. ?

Just relax and watch. It's fun to see how different it is production-wise.. This is an episode that would be helped by Pop up video thought bubbles. This girl April is familiar. MST sure has aged well.

Yes I agree today episode was before my time, but I would love to know the backstory of the other actors. Who was Vanessa ? I did not start watching until 1986

Go to SoapCentral.com click on Y&R and click on Who's Who and choose Vanessa Prentiss or just use the link I posted above.

Oh my! Victor lied to Nikki about his name? And is pretending to be a butler? I didn’t know that! Why did he do that?

Yeah, I had no idea that Victor once pretended to be poor.

This was before my time. I do recognize Nikki, Victor and Lorie. I remember April vaguely from the early 90s. She was involved in a domestic abuse storyline and was married to Paul at one point. Not sure about Vanessa or Barbara.

I looked it up and the blonde guy is Lance Prentiss and his wife is Lorie Brooks. Vanessa was Lance's mother, who was always scheming against Lorie. Lance was previously played by John McCook who is Eric on Bold and the Beautiful.

Thanks for clarification about John McCook. I was certain that he had played Lance Prentiss. I expected to see him in today's episode and was confused when I saw a different actor.

He must want to make sure she likes him for him and not his money. And to see the type of person she is. She is a very sweet person!

I watched the last half of the show.

I have no idea who half the characters are/were but the dramatic pauses were a hoot.

Why is the lighting so dark? Like unnecessarily dark

The dark lighting is CLASSIC Y&R. They lit like that for at least 2 decades. It was always a little murky around there.

TeamLuRe, thanks for you post about Classic Y&R always used to have dark lighting. It gave Y&R a different tone by its darker lighting, too, versus the too bright lighting now in the hotel and restaurant (it is like a different show and it only has the Y&R name now.

TeamLuRe I under that but I guess it is why I appreciate the Grand Phoenix and even the new Chancellor sets, I appreciate the lighter sets.

Does anyone know the actor's name playing Lance? Very handsome. Vanessa I sort of remember had some kind of veil covering
her face at one time. From an accident? Unless I am dreaming. I remember Lorie but not April. Also, they
mentioned Ross and don't remember that name either. That episode had to be way back there. I have
been watching at least 40 sum years.

Dennis Cole was married to Jaclyn Smith for 3 years. He died a while back at age 69.

Thanks for the info on the actor, Dennis Cole. He faintly look familiar (his face especially). I knew he was famous, though, just couldn't remember exactly.

OMG this is so special!! What a treat. Just started and in commercial break but had to come here to say how much I appreciate and am enjoying an episode so much older. I was working back in the 80s and me and a fellow co-worker who followed several soaps use to call in to a soap phone line to get the daily recaps. This was before we had a dvr to watch the show later.

So nice to see a very young Nikki and Victor and enjoy getting to get to see the Col. Douglas.

I vaugely remember Vanessa and was watching the day she took her veil off. Makes me wonder if I called in sick that day or was on vacation. So much forgotten so this is just delightful.

I was in school when this episode originally aired. I recognize a few characters not all nor the storyline.
