Phyllis' unhealthy drive to be a business mogul

Phyllis is determined to operate at the Newman and Abbot level of success and influence. Her desperation is unhealthy and pitiable.

I don't know her history prior to my starting watching the show in 2011. Where did she get this drive and the HUGE chip on her shoulder about not being a GC bigwig? She's smart, and could be successful in a supporting position in any business, such as a marketing director. Why is she always over-reaching and desperately wanting to be a CEO?

Maybe she likes falling flat on her face every time.

I actually disagree. I think if they were to write her correctly(re: subtle), the Phyllis characters drive to be a big shot would make a lot of sense. The hotel storyline doesn't suit her though. I think they should bring her back to her web specialist days and make her start her own cyber security firm. She could be CEO, Kevin could be her lead team developer, Paul(yes Paul) could be her guy to drum up business and Heather could be her in house counsel. They could bring back the old Restless Style set(or something like it) and call it Red, Inc.

It could also diversify and have an online publishing business and she could be the publisher for writers such as Nina, Scotty Grainger Jr and Traci Abbott.

And yes, I threw a lot of people together that shouldn't be in the same room. But hey, think of the drama and tension!

I agree that she should go into something of which she’s familiar: IT. If I’m correct, haven’t all her jobs involved Newman or Abbot businesses? Do something on her own. She should have enough money to start up her own business. Try & have some humility & start off small & grow instead of trying to start at the top...

I'm not into it. Phyllis' to main motivation for why she does anything is her family (kids), or the man she's with. While she has career ambitions, there were other things brewing in the background. Not this time. Phyllis is JUST about this damn hotel. They've totally neglected what genuinely drives Phyllis, in favour of Phyllis fighting to be assistant manager of the Mariott.

Unbelievable. Phyllis needs a love interest at this point, or she needs her son/granddaughter back. There needs to be some balance in her characterization. So far it's a boring, one-note caricature.

Exactly! Phyllis can be very nasty, but her main drive has always been her kids or Nick / Jack. Doing business has always been just a bonus for her. She wants to be succesful, but more than anything, she wants to be loved and accepted.

Could this have been MS' s condition to be back, be more involved in business stuff? When she left she said that she felt Phyllis had no purpose. But making her so business oriented is out of character - she has been painted as the bad guy before and what she used to do was win her way back into her loved ones hearts, she couldn't care less about how the business world saw her.

Well Phyllis is probably the only one with legit experience. Abby a business mogul? Get real. Her power trip is worse than anyone on the show if you ask me.

This Phyliss appears to think that wealth and power equal respect. She will never get that with her behavior.

Well if you believe some people on thr board, MS only came back to work with JM. Some went as far as to say she put that in her contract

I'm sure michelle wants to do more than Phick or Phack but this story isn't doing it for me. I also do think as a fan I would like to see her have a love interest and not necessarily those two.

The stuff people make up about the actors because they don’t like their characters has gotten way out of control.

You have outlined some good business ideas. I can envision any one of these working to Phyllis' advantage.

Phyllis has always been the character who goes after what she wants especially in her personal life. She will play dirty and try to justify why her actions were required. However, she has also been a character that people, such as Jack, Victor or Nick, needed to accomplish some of their goals. In the past each have needed Phyllis tech skills to help them navigate through a business situation or they needed her to run that division of their company. I think it would have been fascinating to see Phyllis and Nikki run the Grand Phoenix. It sorta feels like Nikki has been left behind and all she does these days is worry about Victor. Katherine ran Chancellor late in life and Nikki is nowhere near that old so she should be doing something and it could be glamorous to run the new shinny hotel in GC. And these two would have been fun to watch again in joint venture.

Phyllis said it best this week when she was talking to Adam about revenge. Perhaps she has realized that her actions have not always been the best approach to getting what she wants. She is not looking for revenge right now but she is looking for a purpose. What is going to make her happy. She has stopped whining about the Jabot firing, lack of compensation and the basic woe is me attitude. And, she hasn't left Summer behind. Phyllis has been there for Summer and is trying to give her some good advice even if it sounds a bit like "do as I say, not as I do".

I like the idea of Phyllis going back to her computer experience. Another thought is going back to her gossip past and running GC Buzz.

The fallout over what happened at Jabot basically because of Ashley seems extreme. It seems Lauren could at least hire her back at Fenmore’s. And did she ever approach her for funding? Summer actually seems to be a business asset, maybe they could start their own little fashion company with some funding.

I liked Billy going off on Ashley yesterday!

As for GC Buzz, Phyllis would be much better than Mariah. However, then this board would have the endless threads about JG taking YR backwards to make Phyllis into Hillary, blah, blah, blah,..... LOL...
