CLOUDFARE Security Message

Over the past few days you may have received a "Checking if the site connection is secure" message when accessing the site. This is perfectly normal and not cause for alarm.

This message indicates that the server is confirming that the SSL (the "s" that you see in the https before web addresses) security is, in fact, secure. This is not some sort of advertisement and it is not some sort of nefarious hacking.

Cloudfare, which is a provide of web hosting and security, has recently added this layer of security on the Soap Central message boards platform as an added layer of security.

The message may occur any time that your browser makes a new connection to the boards. The message may also stop appearing at any time as the process is further integrated into the boards.

    Contacting the moderators

The moderators thought it might be helpful to post a list of options for contacting us. Because the site no longer lists the names of the moderators assigned to each forum, we're a little more difficult to find these days! However, there are still a number of ways you can contact us.

    1. Leave a message in our profiles

Please keep in mind that we are not on the site 24/7, so we may not see your message immediately. Also, some moderators are on the site more frequently than others, so response time might vary, depending on what's going on with us on any given day.

    2. Report one of your own posts and note that you're actually asking for some assistance.

Flags are automatically sent to all site moderators, so someone will respond.

    3. Send a message to [email protected].

This works a little bit like flagging a post.

    4. Find a post made by a moderator and click onto their hyperlinked "email me", at the bottom of every moderator's posts.

This is the best option to choose. You can select the moderator who might be the best fit for answering your question, such as why a topic was removed from a specific board. This option also sends an email directly to the moderator's email account, so it's less likely to become buried among a massive influx of flagged comments.

Also, please keep in mind that we're still experiencing some aggravating glitches on the site, so if one option doesn't seem to have worked after a day or two, please feel free to try a different one.

Here is a list of all the current mods (alphabetical order), with a link to each moderator's profile page:

Where is the email link on the moderators' posts? I'm not seeing it. I do see a place to leave a message on their profile page, but if I want to send something confidentially I don't want to write it there.

If you look at the bottom of a moderator's posts, you'll see their username, their title, and an "email me", in red. Click on the "email me", which is a hyperlink, and you can send that moderator a private email. If you still can't see that information, let me know. But it's in my own original post at the top of this topic.

For those who can't see our signatures and email link, it may be that you need to change an option in your user profile. Under your username at the top right of any page, click onto "User Settings" and then onto the "Account" tab at the top of your Settings page. Scroll down to "Conversation Detail Options" on the left side and you should see a box under "Visible Post Elements" (right next to "Conversation Detail Options") that says "Show Signatures". Make sure that "Show Signatures" box is checked.

Let me know if that works...

Moore ideas... I emailed your link that you have in your signature like 10 days ago and was just wondering why you haven't replied yet. I even left a visitor message on your page asking if the address was correct, to see if you got them and nothing with that either.

Could one of the Mods please inform posters, that on the Canadian recap thread it is not necessary to quote the entire recap, as it is already on the top of the thread.
Usually there is just one line for response!

Posters probably quote the recap so they can remember what they heck they wanted to post about. When you get one big thread, it's hard to make your point with your post on page 4 (or 5, 6, 10) without also quoting the post you are referencing, which in many cases is the recap post.

            There are two options:

            A) C/P only the portion that you are replying to
            B) If you addressing everything, then you can type: Re: Opening post...

Also, there are WAY too many spoiler threads and it's getting worse every week. The whole front page was "spoilers" the other day.

I have to ask...is it really going to cause a problem if a poster quotes the entire spoiler...is there so little room available for that data? I know my sock draw has issues with space, but does a big server also have a space problem?

Then may I suggest that people actually READ the guidelines? I've seen several posters abuse the quote feature. One can always simply "comment" w/o quoting or only quote the part of a post they want to comment on. It's really very simple and less burden on the mods. JMO

Let me put it this way -- and it's one of my pet peeves -- if you can take the time to bold sections in a long quote that you want to emphasize, you can use that same amount of time to remove all BUT those sections, thereby having a much shorter quote and the portions you especially wanted to emphasize will be the only portions that remain. Done, and done... Easy.

@Painted Pony--we recappers are restricted to script in our Canadian recap. The computer signals us when we are over
            the limit of figures.

I flagged one of my own posts, as suggested, to get a message/question to a mod. I truly appreciate the time and dedication all of the mods have to this site but I'd love some sort of reply. Thank you so much. (So far, all that flag got me was a ban from the entire thread.)

Maybe a fellow poster can help me. Are any of you noticing that the total number of posts you've submitted stuck at 100?

I'm so sorry about that Kris50. I'm not sure what is going on with your flagged post, because I'm not seeing one from you. Was it recent? And also, flagging a post, even your own, can't "ban" you from participating in a thread. A moderator can close/lock an entire thread, but that would prevent everyone from posting in it, not just one poster. However, when responding to a flagged post, a moderator might find that there are far more problems going on inside that thread than just the one comment that was flagged and decide to close the entire topic at that point. But please let me know if I'm misunderstanding what you meant...

As far as the post count is concerned, it's probably related to some continuing glitches on the site. As I write this, I'm seeing that your post count is 2453. Are you able to see that number now too?

Another question... I check out Soap Central on either my Desktop, iPhone, and iPad and always stay logged in on all three. For some reason, I'm no longer logged in on my iPad AND I can't login on that iPad using my present and original screen name and password. Anybody help me out as to why? Thank you.

Years ago, it was decided by the Mod ( Pop) I believe, to incorporate all of the elements of costuming, sets, hair, makeup, music, hair etc.... in one weekly thread to avoid
"clutter" on the forum. I took over from the original person who did this on Mondays, who retired. Could the Mods please post a reminder to any newcomers
              about this focused thread? Thanks.

I rarely start a new thread because there is always one out there where I can post my thoughts. Duplicate threads are extremely irritating and a pet peeve of mine.

But if someone wants to discuss Ana's singing or Tessa's new song, it seems ridiculous to post it in a thread that is about silly stuff, like a suit that looks like Coco Chanel designed it or Dina's new hair style, etc.

Plus, that thread is so long you would never find your post again as it gets buried in there. There are pages and pages of threads so "clutter" and using excess space doesn't even seem like a valid problem.
