What did you guys think this week? New insights with the girls dialogue this week? I really enjoyed their interactions with each other. Even though its still technically a triangle Brooke & Taylor are the best part, much like Brooke/Stephanie used to be.
I actually find myself agreeing with Brooke that Ridge is still her husband and asking Eric to assist isn't inherently wrong. Maybe a bit manipulative but she is fighting for her marriage.
It's interesting that Brooke said Ridge is an artist he wants passion, and she cannot provide the stability, happiness and predictability. That is why she's the better choice for his love.
I think that is why Brooke is always so threatened by Steffy when it comes to Liam... Brooke feels that Hope is like Taylor, and that Liam, although not an artist will always crave and be drawn to the passion and spontaneity Steffy brings to the table. Hope/Taylor feel their morality makes them the instachoice, so they usually act too late to defend their relationship. Whereas, as Brooke points out so often, Hope is naive, trusting and boring. Over the years, Brooke always won out every man she wanted, except for Taylor with Ridge until the birth of RJ. The child she had tried to have with Ridge for more than 20 years to solidify their relationship.
An interesting take is that Brooke feels that Taylor and Steffy are more sympathetic and vulnerable. Every other character would see Hope and Brooke as the ones whom always need a man to rescue them. Maybe they don't think any one sees them that way so they have to make outcries for support. Taylor and Steffy prefer to tough things out and be independent which makes the men more drawn to them when they actually need help without their having to ask.
Each women is actually perfect for Ridge and Liam depending on what kind of life they want at the time, that's why it's so easy for them to hop. They never have to make a choice, because they are both always available, so they use the children or any mistake they make against them to justify their choices, which reinforces the women's insecurities and lack of self-confidence. They always have a FOMO because the man's choice is always based on a mistake they made and never their actual merit as a person, They then blame themselves and the other woman for taking advantage increasing the rivalry each time. Ridge and Liam even think that way about their daughters, they have tough moms and they're tough, so their kids don't need them as much. They are just now realizing that Steffy and Kelly need them just as much as Hope and Beth and stepping up.
Brooke and Taylor would actually be friends if they weren't so insecure about Ridge... They share moments of kindness and wanting to support each other, but it always instantly evaporates when they feel threatened by the other one. I hope one day we can explore a friendship when neither of them are involved with Ridge or a man the other one wants. It took Stephanie dying to finally get a friendship with Brooke hopefully it doesn't come to that for this generation.
Friendly competition and polyamory do exist, and I would love to see these takes written into the stories as well. Marriage is not the end all be all for everyone; I would love to see an end to quickie weddings, annulments, and divorces on this show.
