  • OLTL mention on TVLine

TVline just posted a list of the 30 most influential Black characters on TV of all time and Carla got a mention.

Carla Grey, played by Ellen Holly, initially passed herself off as Italian instead of Black. She was on the show until around 1984 when Paul Rauch pretty much eliminated all diversity on canvas.

Other characters of color would come and go but OLTL didn't seem to know what to do with them

Was she both Italian and Black - biracial? That storyline happened when I was a kid, or maybe before I was born, but I’ve read lots about it.

She was light skinned and passed as Italian but was really black.

She even had a different last name but went back to her true last name of Gray after everything came out

I feel like RJ was an omission. One of the best complex villains of color.
    HM - Evangeline. Destiny. Hank.

Carla made the list because she was the first lead of color on a soap.

      RJ was a great villain.

    Loved Carla.
Al Freeman Jr was the first AA to win a daytime Emmy I believe.
