Coronation Street is Wasting So Many Characters

Without saying anything about the most recent two weeks of episodes, there are a surprising number of Coronation Street characters who are getting no storylines:

Kirk, Beth, Gary, Maria, Steve, Tracy, Gail, Nick, Leanne, Toyah, Craig, Ken, Eileen, Mary, Brian, Sally, Alya, Nina, Rita, Glenda and Kevin

While I don't necessarily agree with you, it IS an ensemble cast - many of the characters you've named have had major sl's or been front and centre, and no doubt will be again, but it goes in cycles

As for William Roache (Ken) who is 90, and Barbara Knox (Rita) who is in her 80's, they may not want to be on more than they now are. Rita has always been a favourite of mine and Corrie has always been great and a leader in focusing on strong female characters - my big-time fave will always be Elsie Tanner played by the [now] late Pat Phoenix. - aging myself I know LOL.

Great to see someone finally posting about the Street.

I can understand Ken and Rita being used sparingly, though it is always a treat to see them.

And when some characters take their turn in the background after being front and center, that makes sense. Gary was used all the time for a long time before the current break.

I just don't remember this large a group being without stories. It feels a little different.

I began watching Corrie when Carl was cheating on Stella with Sunita.

The classic characters I wish I'd seen are Jack and Vera, and it would've been nice to see the tempestuous relationship of Ken and Deirdre.

Indeed you missed a lot not seeing Jack and Vera; and Ken/Deirdre - not to mention my beloved Mike Baldwin oh wow!
I can't believe Gary is still on the show after all he's done, nor can I believe Maria is still with him for the same reason.
Aging myself here but I've watched from the very first episode when I was a kid in England (I'm in Canada now)
I am sending you a msg (when I figure out how to do it)

Yes, it is a large ensemble cast and they take turns with storylines. It gives the actors time to do other things, as well.
