  • Was Phillip a control freak

Hated the way he treated beth. He made all the decisions and expected Beth to follow meekly behind.. That's why I loved her with Lubbock and edmond. She was,her own person with them.

Do you mean Lujack? Beth and Lujack had a wonderful young love story. Phillip could be a control freak. Or at other times, he was the voice of reason. It just depended on the story, I guess.

He certainly became one......teen Philip was a kind, compassionate young man.....but after marriage to Mindy and India, and after all his issues with Alan - he became a control freak....I remember when Joan Collins was playing Alexandra and trying to take control of Spaulding Enterprises from Alan permanently; and the 'Ex Wives Club' board meeting happened to determine who controlled the most stock....Phillip was confronted by his ex-wives....Blake, Beth, Harley, India....and he was told that his 'controlling ways' had led him to do some pretty appalling things, and that as much as he once hated Alan...he had eventually BECOME him.......

I was happy to see, once he had left the show and returned for the final six months or so, that time had softened Philip once again....and at the end he was much more likeable, except for when the writers made him a murderer and he threw Grady Foley off of Mt. Peapack......that was one of the most atrocious things the writers did to Philip over time - there was no immediate danger to Lizzie, Grady just 'hinted' that she might find trouble if Philip didn't comply with Grady's demands.....and Philip just tossed him off a cliff.......horrible way to send the character off.....(Philip I mean).

Wow I never knew that, Phillip never seemed homicidal to me.

I totally blacked out the Phillip throwing the despicable Grady off "Mt. Peapack"!!!! That was unnecessary. He could have just threatened him in some way to make him leave town . . . He didn't have to murder Grady.

Or Grady could have attacked Philip so that it was self-defense. But the way they wrote/showed it...Philip murdered him.

Depended on who was writing for Phillip. I enjoyed the character when he was "softer" and not as aggressive. I absolutely hated when they had him "insane" and where Alan shot him. Loved Phillip with Beth, but not so much near the end of the show. I preferred Phillip with India. Loved their interactions, both actors that portrayed Phillip.

I kind of preferred India too, the performers certainly had chemistry. It's too bad their marriage was short lived.
