    Reva Clone Story, March 1998

I wasn't watching often back in 1998 when this aired, so although I knew about this preposterous story, I didn't actually see it. I just watch Michael bring out baby Reva and my only thought was "Where did she gestate? In a box?" (that is a reference to Monty Python's 'Life of Bryan' when "Loretta," who was a man wanted the right to have a baby.) Growth serum will make her grow very rapidly. I'm looking forward to teenage Reva.

    LOL
It was weird, like the time travel through the painting story, but I commended them because they dared to do it.

The clone story and time travel story were the worst stuff they ever did on the show, lol....I mean I believe in both time travel and cloning, but...it just didn't work well on the show. It certainly was 'unique' but.....I just didn't think it worked for Guiding Light.

I used to love Dark Shadows - even the time travel stories...where someone would walk up a flight of stairs in an unused section of the Collins mansion, or go into a closed off room, and they would be 100, 200 years in the past....but with Dark Shadows, you expected a 'supernatural' element to most every story they told. That's what the soap was....for Guiding Light to tell a 'time travel' story, it really just stuck out like a sore thumb.

You can still watch Dark Shadows through FreeVee, which used to be IMDBtv.....and I believe that's still part of an Amazon Prime subscription. ;0)

Both stories were horrendous! I loved Dark Shadows and even enjoyed Passions, but Guiding Light wasn't the place for these stories. These stories were just more nails in the coffin for me.

I agree, both stories were just SO not 'Guiding Light'.....I mean we got a lot of stories over the years that just don't happen in 'real life' - like fourteen marriages, multiple children given birth to and 'forgotten about'....people coming back from the dead......but those are to be expected on soap operas....time travel and cloning.....well....most 'back from the dead' people were faked deaths or errors in information....there was nothing 'supernatural' about it....Brandon Spaulding faked his death, Alan Spaulding was 'presumed' dead, as was Beth (more than once)....and while cloning is a real thing.....it just wasn't something they should have done.

With shows like Passions and Dark Shadows - there were supernatural elements from early on....so it was 'the norm' for those shows.....

I'm kind of enjoying the clone story as I watch the 1998 GL playlist. At least after I got over Michael gestating baby clone Reva in a box! I don't think that baby came out of test tube!

However, now that Bethany Joy Lenz is playing teen Reva, it has become interesting to me! She is doing a great job of channeling her inner "Reva" emotions! I must say that I am finding Cassie to be insufferable in this storyline so far. She harps on and on and on and on! Well enough of Cassie, and back to Reva!

Meanwhile, on a deserted island somewhere near the Florida Keys, real-time Reva has survived! I've seen some of the episodes from Reva's return to find clone Reva, later named Dolly, but I hadn't seen the Reva clone develop into a grown-up until now.

Well, clone-Reva and Josh are starting to fall in love, while Reva and her deserted island man are making their way back to the mainland, towards the end of April, 1998.

End of May or first of June, Real Reva is back and Clone Reva has the kids. Real Reva tries to get Josh, who is being his usual know-it-all self and wants to send the clone out of the country (what does he think she can do without any family or friends???), to recognize her as the real McCoy, but so far, he is being a nincompoop. Clone Reva is VERY conniving, and smart, but doesn't understand a lot. Kim Zimmer plays them both as quite different characters who share a lot of the same emotions. I thought I would hate this story, and on some level I do, but it is more entertaining than I thought it would be.
