I was reading a thread under the title Cancelled Soaps on Soap Opera Network, I was surprised to learn that the actor who once played Danny is gay. The subject matter revolved around closeted soap actors. In addition to the late actor who played the 1st Alan, Chris B.

I loved the Danny Santos character EXCEPT when the writers saddled him with Marina Cooper....I can't say I just outright thought or guessed that the actor was gay, but I am also not surprised. Moderators, my understanding is that if it is 'public knowledge' that an actor or actress is gay or lesbian, we can talk about it, but if it's just speculation or rumor we cannot - if I am wrong about that please delete my post here.
All in all, I think there are MANY members of the LGBT community that work in soaps in non LGBT roles...Maureen Garrett (Holly Norris Reade) is a lesbian....I honestly never would have guessed that.
I think it's unfortunate that once an actor comes out publicly, all of a sudden people say they aren't believable as a non-gay character any longer. And even sadder that it can lead to loss of a role, loss of work altogether. I think it's sad that there was a time when any actor or actress who took on an LGBT role was called 'brave' and 'groundbreaking' and yet not once have I heard of an LGBT actor called those things for playing a straight role....sometimes for decades....people play pedophiles, murderers, adulterers, bullies, spousal abusers, etc., and it's not 'brave' to play that part, but for someone to play gay...we called it brave....sad....-

My sorely missed pal Joe, who used to post under the name Onocor here on the Guiding Light thread until he passed a few years ago, ADORED Marina/Mandy Bruno - he called her TLAT Marina Cooper (The Lovely And Talented), lol....he would likely have words for me about this, but I really didn't like Marina with anyone she was paired with....Mallet, Alan-Michael, Danny, Cyrus, Shayne - I just didn't like any of the couples...I just kept thinking she was paired with anyone who happened to be single at the time and no more than 30 years older than she, but none of the pairings appealed to me.

I enjoyed Danny Santos and his mobster family. I missed a lot of it because of working full time, but what I saw I enjoyed.Comment

I liked Aubrey Dollar's version of Marina. I was sorry when she left the role. Mandy Bruno's version was not as interesting to me. However, I wouldn't have liked either version with Danny! It was hard enough for me to accept Michelle with him!GuidingLite commented

Out of curiosity, with whom would you have paired him? At the time he was on his choices (in similarly aged females) would have been Michelle, Marina, Eden, Marah, or would you have brought back someone from the past? The show also could have gone with Cassie, since the actors were a couple on another soap....he's 55 (now) and she's 52 (now)....or Dinah (Gina Tognoni was playing Dinah before Danny and Michelle left town...) or someone else?

WalnutGirl, I'm watching 1997 shows right now, and Rebecca Budig is playing Michelle. Nola's son in interested in her, but so far, she hasn't shown much interest in him. They call him "J" right now, but originally I believe he was called AJ, named after Nola's brother Anthony. I think his name was Anthony James. They did a contest to name him after the hugely pregnant Nola, who dressed like a cupcake for balls and such, finally gave birth to her and Quint's son. I'm not sure what happened to the little girl Nola had when she first started working for Quint, Floyd's daughter.

LOVED Danny Santos and Paul Anthony Stewart is a fantastic actor. I started watching GL in mid-2005 and had heard so much hype around Danny & Michelle but I was just feeling kinda meh about the pairing with Nancy St. Alban in the role (although I still appreciated PAS and the character, as well as NSA's portrayal). However, I watched the introduction of the Danny character, the Santos family and a good chunk of Danny & Michelle's love story (Bethany Joie Lenz's version) just last year online and wow, Danny was such a charismatic character and a lot darker and grey in the first year or so that he was introduced. I loved the conflicts he had with his mother and wish they had kept the Santos family around.
Did not like Danny with Marina and they should have never put those two together. Icky 'cause there is a scene in the first few months that Danny was on the show where he found Lizzie & Marina up in the attic of a building. :/Comment

For me it depended on the day. Sometimes I loved him and sometimes not so much. Does anyone else every just randomly wonder from time to time if Carmen Santos is still in a coma? No? Just me? Kinda thought so.. 😂Comment

LOL.....Had Danny and Michelle not left Springfield, I bet we'd have had an answer to that question eventually - she's likely have been brought back to cause trouble. My favorite scene of hers was when Joan Collins came on board as Alexisandra Spaulding, and Edmund was flirting with Alex, which made Carmen jealous, and she said, 'Hello....I'm Carmen Santos, and you're stepping on my territory....', and Alexisandra replied, 'I'm Alexandra Spaulding...and I couldn't care less.'
My ex went to school with Saundra Santiago in Miami.....said she was actually a nice lady...nice like Carmen at all. ;0) -

WalnutGirl If I remember correctly, they were dating/sleeping together/whatever and I think his lies or something like that crossed a line and then she despised him after that.

1. I loved the character of Danny in the beginning. He had an edge and wasn't all "goody-goody." When they continuously kept putting him back with Michelle (St. Alban's version), I lost interest in the character.
2. I loved Aubrey Dollar! The other Marina actress.... not so much.
3. I loved Carmen, except when they wrote her in a corner. That character had so much potential and could have easily sparred with Alexandra, Alan, Josh, Reva, etc. I feel that character was put into a corner too many times.Comment

When exactly did Michelle fall in love with her husband.? I recall slightly there was some friction when they first got married. I also recall Ed and Rick not being too happy Michelle married into a mob family.Comment

Michelle accidentally killed Danny’s brother, Mick. Danny was falling for Michelle, and per mob family rules, Danny would have had to kill Michelle for retribution. Danny married Michelle so he couldn’t kill her. Of course, Mama Santos (Carmen) was furious. Michelle fell in love with Danny.
I loved Bethany Joie Lenz in the role. She and Paul St Anthony were great together. The couple fizzled, in my opinion, when Danny lost his edge.
