Considering they were were from opposite economic social backgrounds, I became curious how they first met. Was Ross in college or law school? I recall Vanessa was a HS senior.

I "think"... granted, its been a few days, but I think that Ross and Vanessa were in the same social group growing up. Vanessa initially married another man because he could help her father, Henry's, company. They divorced a short time later and moved with Henry to Springfield from Chicago.

In my (admittedly foggy) memory - Ross was already a practicing attorney and was working for Henry and dated Vanessa secretly behind Henry's back....even though she was under 18....and I was not ever really comfortable with that because it made Ross a statutory rapist....but maybe I'm remembering another character/another story.
Interesting enough that Vanessa was just 17 when Dinah was born - the final actress to pay Dinah, Gina Tognoni, is a full 27 years younger than Maeve Kincaid...Wendy Moniz was closer in age (23 years younger), Paige Turco was the closest in age to Maeve Kincaid (19 years younger) and Jennifer Gatti, the first DInah, is 22 years younger.

GuidingLite I believe you are correct! I seem to remember that. If you will also remember, Ross wasn't the "fine, upstanding gentleman" when he first came to Springfield. They always give them an edge and then bore them down.

Ross was a scallywag back then - scheming with Lucille Wexler for Amanda's favors.....defending Roger in Holly's rape trial....keeping it a secret that Lucille tried to kill Ben McFarren...
I just read this in Ross's character profile, so it kind of negates my memory....they were together....but not in the way I remember, really:
He was soon knocked for a loop when Vanessa Chamberlain, his darkly beautiful ex-fiancee, came to Springfield. Vanessa and her doting father, Henry, were wealthy Chicago businesspeople in the process of joining forces with Spaulding Enterprises. Iron-willed and sensuous, Vanessa was every bit the lady in the boardroom and the animal in the bedroom. Years before, Ross had courted her for her wealth and connections, then fell deeply in love with her. But Vanessa had ditched Ross for a rich, drab preppy who was more comfortable in her world.

I know Paige Turco had appeared on a couple of episodes of NCIS: New Orleans last season. I don't know about Jennifer Gatti.

Smithey I don't watch Y&R, so I wouldn't have known she was on there. I also don't watch much TV these days, unless it's hockey. I pretty much gave up watching soaps after ATWT went off the air back in 2010.

Paige played Keisha on Y&R, which is kinda strange considering Keisha was either biracial or Black. The first actress to portray her was Hispanic I believe.

WalnutGirl Jennifer Gatti played Keesha on Y&R from 1995-96 according to her IMDB page. Paige Turco was only on Guiding Light as Dinah and on AMC as Lanie from 1989 to 1991

I was a kid then, but I recall what a slime ball Ross was eons ago. Josh was sleazy too, but changed into a nicer person. I did not know Ross defended Roger. It is ironic he later got involved with Holly. I never knew the Chamberlains hailed from Chicago, I thought they were upper crusts New Yorkers. But then again, I think Springfield was in Illinios, like the real capital. I guess Ross was a male gold digger, he was into Amanda as well. He even dated Alexandra briefly I believe. Was Carrie rich? His brother Justin's first wife Jackie came from money as well. Does anyone recall the preppy ex of Vanessa? She really liked guys across the "tracks", since she had the hots for Nola's older brother Tony. She later married her nephew Matt. Remember how Vanessa used to pick on nice girl Eve when she dated Ross?

Ross and Carrie were SUCH a great couple until her personality disorder became known. I always wanted her to return to the show one day (the amazing Jane Elliot) and bring a child with her that could be Ross's or Josh's or Justin's (she claimed they slept together but then recanted, although that could have been another lie she told to spare Ross from hurt when she realized she needed help)....granted Ross already had a long-lost in DInah, but Josh never had an 'unknown child' turn up in town....
I never, ever liked Eve - she was such a mousy little thing....Rita was FAR more entertaining to watch (Eve's sister)
