Gil Rogers, the actor who played Hawk Shayne for years on GL, has died at 87. Sad.

Loved Hawk. He and Marj Dusay's Alexandra were a hoot together. He and Reva were awesome too. So sad. -
Surprising sometimes the differences........
Alan (Ron Rains) is only 12 years older than Philip (Grant Aleksander) in real life...and they played father and son on the show....
Rick Bauer (Michael O' Leary) is 62 years old in real life, and Ed (Peter Simon) is 77....only 15 years difference...and they played father and son also on the show.
Dylan Lewis (Morgan Englund) is 57 in real life, and Reva (Kim Zimmer) is 66....a mere 9 years separate this on-screen mother and son duo.....
Frank Cooper (Frank Dicopoulos) is 64 in real life, and Justin Deas (Buzz Cooper) is 72.....8 years between this on-screen father and son duo.....
Those darned soaps play fast and loose with ages. ;0)

Oh, Gil Rodgers was a fab actor & he made me either love or hate ole Hawke.
Sometimes when he would betray Reva 4 $$$$ or some such nonsense I would want 2 just jump into the tv & box hawke's ears....and then the very next day he would do something so tear jerking 4 her I just wanted 2 go awww.
It was partly the writing but mostly the great acting by this pro.
R.I.P. 2 a wonderfully gifted actor who brought lots to many fans throughout his long career!Comment

I loved the character/actor....so funny in the part....I loved that he called Reva 'Sister'......and I never understood why, but just enjoyed it....;0) -
IDK, I think he prolly called reva "sister" like how some men call their wives "mother"!
Wifey is their kids mother just like Reva(daughter)is his other kids(Roxie) sister....but didn't Roxie die?
i really don't remember if she died or was written off by going 2 a mental hospital! -
Roxie had a breakdown when Johnny Bauer had cancer and was dying...even though he recovered...she did not....she left and was never seen again in Springfield.....but did not die.
We saw her brother Rusty and Hawk several times after they both were no longer full-time characters on the show....most recently in 2005, four years before the show ended.
I loved Rusty - he would have been a good character to keep around as a police officer and eventually the chief of police in Springfield. I was never a fan of the Coopers beyond Harley.....I loved Harley, but not the rest of the family.

I LOVED Rusty,2 especially with Melinda Sue...but show did not go "there" @ the end of the soap!
I LOVED Johnny Bauer 2 he was so handsome!
I liked HDC but not with Gus but with Phillip's brother Alan Michael.
I even liked Lucy with Alan Michael & hated how show ended them but I digress.
Hated how Harley's mom got killed....the writing for Harley's dad was just plain goofy mostly which made the character tiresome(2 me)Comment

Frank was, to me, always a boring character.....and he scowled all the time in the later years of the show. Buzz was pretty goofy.....and Lucy, to me, was useless.....and a real slap in the face to Harley and Frank....Buzz abandoned his family in Springfield and took up with another woman, and had a daughter with her...and raised that daughter.....I don't know about anyone else, but I'd find that kind of difficult to forgive.....I also got really tired of the Cooper/Spaulding pairings.....Nadine with Alan (she tried anyway), Buzz with Alexandra, Harley with Alan-Michael, Harley with Phillip (although I did like them as a couple), Harley with Gus, Coop with Lizzie, James with Daisy.....it was always the same story....the 'good' Cooper with the 'bad' Spaulding.....over and over and over again.....it got so old.....

I loved that Hawke called Reva 'Sister'. I always felt like that was an imrpov by the actor, but I'm not sure. Anyway, Gil Rogers, a great, great actor. RIP.Comment

Whose son was James? When did Nadine and her ex hubby hook up with the Spalding siblings? I missed those storylines. I recall the others.Comment

James was Beth and Philip's son...he was the marrow donor when Lizzie had leukemia as a child....conceived when she was married to Jim Lemay....who was Daisy's adoptive father....;0)
Nadine chased after Alan when she first came to town, and when that didn't work out she went after Billy Lewis...she wanted someone with money.......Buzz dated Alexandra....or at least had a heavy flirtation.

I recall Roxie was raped by someone named Bubba. That was a catalyst for her breakdown. I recall her mom stating she was recovering to Revs. I liked Roxie and Johnny. I recall he had a trouble making gymnast sister.Comment

In my recollection, Roxie's breakdown was precipitated by Johnny's near fatal illness...she never recovered from it although he did......Lacey Bauer is the gymnast sister....their father and mother were Jack and Lanie Bauer...Jack was the son of Papa Bauer's brother, Otto....so he was Bill, Meta, and Trudy Bauer's cousin....so Johnny was Ed's and MIke's first cousin once removed (if I'm calculating that correctly).

Unless I missed it I don't think Hawke ever hooked up with Alex. He worked for her a few times. I think the first time was against Kyle Sampson - a newcomer mega millionaire to Springfield and business rival to the Spaudlings - back in the mid 80s.Originally posted by WalnutGirl View PostComment
