According to Alexis, Nikolas is unlikely to face charges for holding Esme hostage unless she is able to remember. So, what if she decides to get her memories back for Ace's sake. It would give her a significant advantage during a custody trial. Not to mention making her look good during her own trial for revenge porn. Thoughts?

What if Esme decides to get her memories back?

Unless she turns out to basically be the same person she always was, I like this Esme, it's ok to have layers to her personality but if she becomes increasingly disgusted with what she learns about who she was and she insists on a DNA test before she gets her memory back, then I think I could tolerate her getting her memory back, maybe finding out the baby is not a Cassidine could get the ball rolling in that area. The only way I would continue liking her is if when she does get her memory back, she stays the person she's become and doesn't go back to the person she was. I'd like for her to show Nicholas some grace and not press charges as a way to apologize for putting him and Ava through over a years worth of mental torture. And I'd like to see her make amends to Trina, Cam and Joss for what she pulled on them. And I'd like for her to tell Spencer that Nic wasn't even in the room when she fell off the parapet the first time, it wasn't Ava's fault, it really was an accident.

I don't want Esme to go back to who she was either. However, there would have to be some drama connected to having her memory back, so maybe she could end up recovering repressed memories of her adoptive parents deaths.
I'm fine with Esme making amends with Trina, Joss, and Cam, but I'd still want Nikolas to face charges for holding Esme prisoner and, at the very least, lose any chance of getting custody of Ace.

perfect dolly4359 . I feel the same. I'd like her to get her memory back at some point and choose to back off those who harmed her with respect to those she has harmed. Kind of a "who am I to judge?" scenario. If the writers can't pull that off, then I want her to never get her memories back.

Eve S Dropper Maybe that giant chicken from Family Guy will get mad at Esme for some reason. Hopefully he'll have an odd number of blunt objects to hit her with!

varnish7 Oh I agree with you that Esme should be in intensive therapy to try to regain her memories, although with people screaming in her face that she will go to jail if she does, I guess I understand her hesitance. But as I keep saying I would like to see her in therapy and maybe group counseling for Young Amnesiac Mothers of PC, and doing something / anything as a gesture to take responsibility for her crimes, like making a plea deal so she can pay the penalty as dictated by the court, and move TF on.

Lots of Esme talk on the boards !
Her current redemption story, her beautiful Cassadine baby and the fact that she is the daughter of two legacy characters is the best thing GH has done post pandemic. The way she tormented Joss and Trina and yet still walks among them with zero recollection was very well conceived and written. Who knows if they will write her to remember

This is NOT any kind of redemption story.
This is Pod Esme in limbo - living her best life - while playing the "amnesia get out of jail free card" to avoid ANY real accountability for the pain she's caused and the damage she's done.
The Esme that NEEDS to be redeemed is the one that got off on making that video - sexually violating Cam and Joss. Even AFTER he was the ONLY one to befriend her and show her compassion. And the one that had NO trouble framing Trina - and try to RUIN her life - by sending her to prison for a crime she didn't commit.
She can admit when or if she ever gets her memories back, do her time in prison, THINK about what she did to get their, and then after she gets out - she can apologize with HONEST remorse and regret.
THAT is a TRUE redemption story.
But none of that will happen until the REAL Esme comes out of hiding.

ScrubsFan#1 Esme is not playing the "amnesia get out of jail free card." If you'll recall, Esme was in police custody from the moment she was brought to the hospital with hypothermia. Everyone, including Esme, expected that she would go to prison for her crimes. Not once was her amnesia (or the fact that she'd recently given birth) suggested as a way for Esme to skate on the charges against her. Her sentence might have been reduced due to mitigating circumstances but that's all her amnesia would have done.
The only reason that Esme is free is because Trina, Joss, and Cameron made a conscious choice to drop the charges against her, not because of any sort of manipulation on Esme's part.

The charges were dropped UNTIL Esme gets her memory back.
Because she wouldn't be able to testify about things she doesn't remember.
So there was NO trial - and NO prison time - BECAUSE of her amnesia.
And as long as she HAS this memory loss - she will NOT be going to prison.
And will not be held accountable for what she's done - and pay amends to her victims.
She gets to live her best life rent free - with a career - and her son care for.
I still stand fully by what I said - this amnesia IS her get out of jail free card.
Just like Nina's coma was HER get out of jail free card.
It's why she wasn't imprisoned for what she did to Ava and Avery.

It's a huge WTF that neither Kevin nor anyone who treated her at GH suggested that Esme work with a doctor to try to get her memories back. So much for all those great patient advocates like Stella and Felicia. "Oh, a young woman with amnesia delivers a baby -- we could hook her up with social services, we could get her in to see a psychiatrist or psychologist -- but turns out our new head nurse was one of the people holding her captive before she suffered amnesia, maybe we should leave it alone."

I'm sure if there was any medical way Esme could have got her memory back...Kevin would have been on it...so it's just like with Ned...if you forget who you are not much can be done about it...and it's just assumed at some point it just comes back on its own or it doesn't...so the person suffering from it...can't just decide when or if they get their memory back?
-

There may not be any medical way that Esme could get her memories back, but it seems like the most likely explanation for her amnesia would be that she is deliberately blocking out painful memories. But a mental-health professional could help Esme learn some coping skills -- it must feel incredibly lonely and isolating to wake up with no memories, discover you're pregnant, have people keep telling you you committed horrible crimes that you can't remember.... I think Eddie Maine could also use some professional help, and one of the huge WTFs of the incredibly WTFy Nixon Falls saga was that nurse Phyllis saw no need to get further medical or psychological help for her amnesiac bartender. When she realized he was bipolar she just decided to get him an Rx and then treat him herself instead of working to get him in therapy.

I really couldn't care less about Esme's imprisonment, I hope Nicholas slides on that the same way Sonny, Carly, Nina, Ava, Val and Jason have spent all these years sliding on theirs. And so far, Esme herself.

I am pretty sure that Nic doesn't have a snowball chance in getting any kind of custody of Ace from Esme. He walked out and abandoned a young pregnant woman with amnesia with zero means of taking care of their son. . He has proven he has no concern for Ace. Spencer has a better chance than Nic does, because at least he has been there to help Esme. If I was a judge I am pretty sure that I wouldn't even give his visitation unless it was supervised. His history of abandoning his children is very well known.

If she does get her memories back she will be brought up on charges for what she did to Trina as Trina only dropped the charges because Esme could not remember but they both, Trina and Spencer said if she got her memories back they would re-establish the charges against Esme.

That may not be a bad thing necessarily. Once Esme has her trial and is sentenced (or not) that's it. Nobody can use it for leverage against her. If she gets a good lawyer and is cooperative, she may be able to receive a sentence that involves little to no jail time. I'm sure that Kevin, Laura, and Alexis could all put in a good word on her behalf. Arrangements would need to be made for Ace, of course, but Esme would be able to bring him to prison until he was 18 months old if necessary. After that, she could arrange for a temporary guardian.
