With Nikolas as a father, Victor and Cyrus as great uncles, and Sonny as an uncle, it's no wonder the boy has issues. And, these days, Sonny's looking like the better option.

Has Spencer had any positive male role models in his life besides Kevin?

I left this soap quite a few time but the men listed do not count as bad influences. Cyrus is a newly found uncle and I believe he was already in jail when Spencer came back on canvas. Victor I believe was persumed dead until after grown Spencer came on canvas. I don't remember Sonny allowing Spencer to act like a spoilers brat. He always watched out for him the best he could. Nicholas from my memory was always loving to Spencer, maybe he raised a spoiled brat but he was never a monster to him. I could be wrong because I stopped watching for a few years.
This Nik recast was not the best father to Spencer but the initial strain that was put on the relationship was because he couldn't accept that Nik fell in love with Ava, the woman he hated. Things got much worse after all the other stuff as well and Nik was trash for the things he did.
People always give grace to Spencer because he is young but what about Nik. Didn't he grown up dealing with his share of psychopaths?
I wouldn't be shocked if Victor did some sort of programming or brainwashing to Nik while he nursed him back to health.Last edited by Shay8; April 9, 2023, 12:09 AM.

agree to disagree - the original strain was that Nicholas kept his being alive a secret from Spencer. Marrying Ava only made the strain worse because of Ava's betrayal when Spencer sued for his fortune as the rightful heir.
True, Sonny never allowed Spencer to act like a brat in his presence, and called him out on the "pranks" when He went against the Family and endangered Sonny's daughter Avery. He told him to his face (does Sonny listen to himself). Spencer was disappointed and then turned to Victor.

To your point OP, I think it would be a perfect time to bring Spencer’s uncle Lucky back to town. Ignoring the part where they inexplicably made Lucky an absent father, I think Lucky could be just the right person to relate to Spencer and help him become the person he wants to be.

His uncle Sonny is a great male presence in his life. He loves Spencer completely, but isn't afraid to call him out and be straight with him when he's not doing right.
As a peer, Cam was a good influence on him as well.

No not really , I have no doubt Sonny loves Spencer but Sonny is a hot mes, he's violent and his mere presence in Spencer's life could make Spencer a target if a mob war breaks out. Sonny's selfishness is not something I want Spencer to mimic. The same can be said about Cyrus. Valentin seems to evolving a little, maybe he could mentor Spencer .
Victor has become too chartoonish.

I forgot that Cyrus is Spencer’s uncle.
I would say that Kevin and Martin are the best male role models in Spencer’s family.
Sonny, Cyrus and Victor are all violent criminals. I seriously doubt that any of them would leave a life of crime behind them.
As for Nik, he’s made terrible mistakes and committed crimes but unlike the 3 above Nik is capable of being a better man if the writers allow his true personality out: his love for his son.

i would really like to see martin - where is he anyway - take an interest in him as an uncle/nephew and have a positive influence on him. maybe encourage him to go to law school and become a better man than any of his cassadine relatives.

Me too, Martin is a good man and MEK knows how to play a great dad imo. I think MEK/Martin could use his great humor to remove that sharp stick stuck in Spencer’s rear end. He could help Spencer learn not to take his Princely self so seriously.

Great idea!! I think Spencer would make a great lawyer!! And Martin would be a good role
Model for him. (And I’m sure that Alexis would also give Spence some advice). Then after he’s done. Spencer and Molly could go toe to toe in the courtroom from time to time.

The character of Nikolas has taken a lot of downward turns over the years, but as originally written, Nikolas was a very devoted and loving father to Spencer. His big faults were that he didn't correct Spencer enough when Spencer bullied employees and "townies." (Spencer had a driver named Chandler whom he treated outrageously.) And Nikolas let his young son get attached to some inappropriate women whom Nikolas brought into his life.
Uncle Sonny was also a loving and consistent presence in Spencer's life, albeit a criminal one. But since Spencer wasn't living in his household he wasn't subjected to the dangers that Michael and Morgan were. And Sonny never nearly killed him with a car bomb, as he did Kristina.
Cyrus was no influence at all in Spencer's life -- Laura didn't know Cyrus existed until Spencer was 17 or maybe older and Spencer only met him in prison.
Victor, as originally written, wasn't around Spencer much either. He showed up in town once and Spencer was very interested in super-rich Great-Great-Uncle V, who gave him a Faberge egg, but Victor wasn't around for long.
You could say that Spencer got an idea that he was above the law and rules for ordinary people due to exposure to Cassadine relatives, and to Sonny as well, and to his father spoiling him. But Nikolas -- before they started running the bus over him -- was a very loving father who until he got involved in the mayoral election and decided to steal ELQ and then kill Hayden wasn't breaking the law, or at least as far as I can remember.

This is a fair assessment imo. ITA .

I agree with this analysis. I give Spencer a lot of grief, and I do think much of his personality and attitude come from the sense of entitlement he had ever since he was a little kid. Laura or ghost Courtney would occasionally cluck their tongues at him but he never really was held accountable (or punched in the nose which may have helped too). I think Spencer went off the rails when Nik fake-died and his attempt to reclaim his home failed, which he totally blamed on Ava and then harbored that grudge to the point of psychosis. Then he had to be sent away to boarding school in France, where he really had no support system except when Laura visited him. Then with the reveal of Nik being alive, instead of being overjoyed, Spencer CHOSE anger and retribution, and it has been downhill ever since. He has had some positive influences but he prefers wallowing in anger, resentment, and revenge. It is obviously what he prefers, and that is on him, and him alone at this point.

His only true, normal, positive role model has been Kevin, in 20014 Victor was very good to Spencer but Spencer was unaware it wasn't on the up and up! Spencer is drawn to Victor because of Victor's kindness in 2014! I'd say Nikolas prior to 2016 was always good to Spencer but in a Cassidine way and Sonny is good to Spencer but has the mob danger element to their relationship!

Nik always tried to dial Helena's influence back from Spencer and taught him to be humble. He never accepted Spencer calling Cameron a townie and told him about his roots, leading to the dream. Historically Nik was polite and princelike and his biggest sin was cheating on his wife. He was later twisted into being someone who could order a hit and abandon a son. I still have trouble believing that was Nik.
Even when he saw Helena teaching Spencer to waltz (in a delightful recreation of Shall We Dance), he had a talk with Spencer.
I maintain that Spencer is drawn to Victor because he has abandonment issues and this family member is paying him a lot of attention and offering him encouragement and telling him that he is special because of his birthright.
I think that soon Spencer will see Victor as he saw Esme.

Nikolas had a great relationship with Spencer up until he returned from the "dead." I would say that before then, Nikolas was a great role model for Spencer. The trouble really happened between them after Spencer was a teen. And yes, Kevin has been a positive male role model in his life.
But ultimately the most positive role models in his life have been women -- with Laura leading the pack there. Spencer has had a lot of positives in his life, so blaming his screw-ups or personality issues on lack of positive male role models doesn't wash, IMO. He's had it no worse than Cam or Jake or even say, Michael.

Until this recent Nik I think Nik was a loving father to Spencer and I think he loved and trusted his father. Nik fake dying ruined what they had unfortunately. Kevin and Martin are the only good men in his life now. I hope they step up.

OLTLBoomer Agreed the strain started with Nik staying away when Spencer thought he was dead. I tossed that to the side because he forgave him and was working with him to drive Ava crazy, I think. Were they working together when Ava was in shadybrook or was that Nik and Victor? I can't remember.

it was just Nicholas, if i remember. he dropped his ring in Ava's room and Nina found it on the floor.
Nina wanted revenge on Valentin for the faux daughter scheme (if memory serves) and she is the one who recommended Ava and Nina work together to take down the Cassadine men.
And I cannot remember if Nic was working with Spencer at that time. Spencer was very angry with NIcholas at hiding that truth, not remember his own blabbermouth tendencies.
