    Why does Spinelli hate Austin?

I am a month behind in watching. I am watching an episode from the beginning of May. Spinelli is at the Savoy and so are Maxie and Austin. Austin volunteers to Maxi to help Spinelli “get his groove back” and when Austin approaches Spinelli over some male bonding kayaking - the loathing facial expression to Austin from Spinelli are comical.

I can’t remember anything specific that Austin did or is it just because he is another man in Maxi’s life?

    {PS: I am watching in-episode order but some of the scenes seem really out of place in the “story”. Maybe because I took a long time to try to rewatch and things are disjointed. I am not sure if it’s me.}

I don’t think he hates him. I think he has some trust issues when it comes to the people Maxie dates, and who can blame him? Aside from Nathan, she hasn’t made great choices in that department lately. As someone who has a child with Maxie, I think he’s right to be cautious.

I agree he has absolutely every right to be cautious. I just couldn’t remember if it was purely because of the connection with Maxie or Austin had “done something” to make him dislike him.

Nathan was beyond perfect and I am still annoyed they killed the character when they actor left. ?

Because he is a loser who doesn’t want Maxie with anyone else but him.

Yeah that about says it. The actor is really good but the character is useless in my opinion.

He sees flaws in every man that Maxie is interested in, even the good doctor, that innocently gave Val info as Val was Bailey's "father" on record, which was BLQ's doing.
Funny that no one is ever good enough for Maxie, coming from a guy making a living by illegally hacking, let alone for the mob.

i believe spinelli saw that austin was helping blow maxie’s cover about keeping peter from his daughter.

spinelli had no issues with nathan who treated maxie with respect and kindness. the other ill begotten characters that maxie has been incolved with have met with spinelli’s disapproval.
i thinm he saw something about austin and the fact that he did not appear to be helping maxie’s whatsoever. and even maxie was turned off by autin in the beginning and was more or less outraged that brooklyn suggest she give him some of her personal time

Because deep down, he still loves Maxie. My problem with Spinelli is that his behavior when it comes to Maxie's love life can sometimes be very petty and borderline creepy. I don't care for Spinelli because as I have mentioned in some other past posts, I think he can be very manipulative with his behavior. I see this mostly with Maxie because he knows Maxie has a soft spot for him because of Georgie and because she knows his personality so well. He plays up to this fact everytime Maxie starts seeing someone new.

I can see this also. It is a bit manipulative. I am not sure Spinelli truly means this deep down. After all of these years on the show, he needs to mature some. I adore Spinelli, I have a soft spot for the Nerdy/Geeky/Underdog. I can’t help it. He was great with Ellie, she seemed to mature him some. I want too see him mature and stop talking like he is trying to be Shakespeare or whatever.

Maxie will always look out for him.

Because he's protective of Maxie, loves her and is jealous of her new relationship.

He really doesn’t have a reason but I think he sees Austin and Maxie together and he feels possessive of her. He was mostly off screen with Ellie and Georgie when Nathan was around. I can’t remember if he had any issues with him but again he wasn’t around and Nathan was considered one of the rare decent guys for a soap . Another thing is he may have taken offense to Austin’s offer .

Spinelli didn't have issues with Nathan. He was kind of in awe of him.

There was one time Ellie and Nathan went to the Nurse's Ball together and Spinelli wasn't thrilled, but it was a more good-natured conflict than a bitter one.

Spinelli knew Nathan was good for Maxie. If Austin turns out decent he'll come around on him too.

I normally love Spin but his behavior is creepy and controlling. He has ZERO say in who she dates and she in turn has zero say in who he dates.

It's part pissy-pants jealousy over Maxie and part over protection of all things Jason. Jason didn't care much about ELQ but Austin pissed him off with the way he came at the Qs. And Spinelli took that crusade on for absolutely no reason.

If only subconsciously, Spinelli may be thinking that since he and Ellie have split, he and Maxie should be Endgame

I think Maxie and Spinelli take interest in each other's love lives because they are still close as friends. They want each other to have some say in their lives.

Spinelli didn't hate Nathan, so it's kind of out of character to hate Austin for seeing Maxie, but maybe it's as you said. Maybe he's single now so looks at the situation differently.

I still think the show missed the boat with Spinelli, making him such a one-note comic relief kind of character. There could be a positively epic storyline if Spinelli were to see his own uniqueness through viewing Leo and his special education, and then his coming to terms with realizing that he himself is autistic and getting coached because of it. Technically I wouldn't want Leo around this criminal, but the story could be amazing if told correctly and with sensitivity.
