I agree on the confusion, however I do believe that Sonny is taking his meds and is trying to salvage his marriage and family - hence the suggestion of co-habitation in the Compound. Carly called him on the adultery and the confusion of the children, and that the children will be hurt no matter what they do, as it will not be a loving home setting.
side note - this stands to work out well for Ava, as Carly said, she gets Donna, but no mention of Avery.

Good for Carly for shooting that down quickly and decisively. She was absolutely right that subjecting the girls to a farce would be more harmful than helping them adjust to visiting one parent in another location. Avery already understands this by visiting Ava, and Donna will adjust. It's better than forcing them to watch their parents cohabitate with anger and agitation towards each other.

To me, Carson always worked better as divorced co-parents who went on with their own lives. I like them each better with other people, and I thought that the Carly Jax marriage provided what was the healthiest time for the children.
Besides, why would anyone want to stymie the rest of their lives and love lives by living together in a romance-free relationship. That's pretty grim, and doesn't teach the children at all about healthy relationships.

I disagree. Sonny still wants to save the marriage. That was his last ditch effort to do so. Carly was never interested in "saving" or "fixing" the marriage so she refused.

He seems to forget Avery has a mother that is not Carly. I actually appreciate that Carly cares about Avery so it’s not about that.
Sonny was making it about himself it’s what he wants . He wants to present a lie to the girls to try and get back in Carly’s good graces. Children adjust all the time to situations like this and grow up fine as Carly said .
I actually thought she made many good points today.

In any of her supposed whining I don't recall her ever saying that her marriage was over and that she didn't want to be with Sonny. He crushed that because he couldn't wait to talk to her. He wanted nina more then he wanted to wait

Carly never said her marriage was over until she found Nina in bed with Sonny. She asked for time to think things through -- that is not unreasonable for anyone who is blindsided by a romance their husband is having with another woman. And Sonny would not give her five minutes to think.
Every time Carly asked him a simple question -- did he still want Nina -- his answer was "I want you". That answer is what wrecked their marriage. Clearly he did not have the will to say the simple words, "No, I don't want Nina".
Carly has a right to complain about what happened to her. I believe Nina was doing the exact same thing all over town with everyone she knows - - Britt, Maxie, Liesl, Scott, Ava, Willow, and even Curtis. And, Nina, unlike Carly, truly whines ... wah wah wah ... I never meant for this to happen ... Yee gods, if a divorce will stop that lame lament of Nina's, bring it on.

This was a transparent attempt to live under the same roof as Carly and foster those "family" feels. After which, they can conveniently fall into bed.

This is true. It’s actually happened to them before when Michael was a very small child and Morgan was an infant. At the time, he did not intend for them to reunite but it happened. I could see him believing it could happen again. Them living together for their child is how they fell in love the first time.

It makes perfect sense if you can believe that he's interested in having his family and romancing nina at the same timeShelly, Moderator

I think Sonny is taking his medication but he's not well adjusted yet. I was thinking that when they get divorced, Sonny won't be around Carly trying to manipulate her into not going after Nina anymore; she will be free to make up her own mind and maybe this is why he wanted the two of them to stay in the same home to keep tabs on Carly. I'm very disappointed in Carly because she said the the divorce will affect the kids either way, So why let Sonny have everything they both accumulated during their marriage - I'm afraid Nina is going to benefit from all that Carly didn't want to fight for. Sonny is a greedy son-of-b..ch - he didn't want to give Carly the only two things she asked for and although he now agrees to give her what she wants, I think he will want something else and then change his mind if she doesn't agree - hopefully this will happen and it will push Carly into taking everything from him.

But if she doesn't want to fall back into bed with him, well, they said no romance, so he could go sniffing around for Nina, who would probably be eagerly waiting at the gatehouse.
Carly was smart to shoot that suggestion down.
