Having watched since the beginning of Sonny, this intervention isn't ringing true

We have seen Jason and Carly try to deal with Sonny when he is having a bipolar episode. Carly staying in the darkened penthouse with Sonny because she knew that was what Jason would have wanted her to do is when I FIRST started to like Carly.

When Emily first started to figure out he was bipolar, I was mad that she was the one who figured it out (I was violently anti-Emily) and was only okay with it because she was a Doctor AND she worked with Jason and Sonny's family to get him through the diagnosis.

Watching Olivia and Carly work together when Sonny went off his meds was true to the story - Sonny and Carly weren't even together at the time, but she knows the stages.

Watching that entire family go through Morgan's diagnosis and his tragic end - watching his struggle to stay steady when his medication was wron and then finding out that was what sent Morgan into the manic episode when he died.

I thought this show was really taking this mental illness seriously. And then Phyllis picking up on it (after days) and then having Jason get him to his Doctor immediately. All of this rang true to life.

There is so much history there. And to have Nina come in, immediately figure out what is going on and get him help - once again keeping him away from his family - I am having a harder and harder time swallowing this weird propping of Nina.

And the hospital/Britt leaving Sonny - who is off his medication and having a diagnosed manic episode - with a non family member, who juist recently abused hi,. I just cannot.

I have watched since the beginning also and I agree that this story is being written to prop Nina. This story does not make sense and honestly the writers don't care about making sense or history.

I have to agree that Sonny's mania is not being written as well, or with as much sensitivity or truth as it has been in the past. It's not even the Nina of it all that bugs me so much about it - it just seems so forced and rushed and played without any real purpose. Hopefully this will become a real story beyond what we've seen over the last few days - if it all ends here it will seem useless. It's not shocking that Sonny would go off his meds and experience mania - he has been through a tremendous amount of physical, emotional, and mental trauma and loss in the last year. It would be shocking if he wasn't struggling with his mental and emotional health.

I know we're in a different era of soaps now, but Sonny's mental health issues were always done with truth and I'll be really bummed if we've lost that, too. It's a topic that deserves some truth, especially because MB is so passionate and open about reducing stigmas and educating people about it.

But this was NOT an intervention - this was Nina doing what was right - getting him to the hospital, and then She dropped the ball!! NIna should have sat outsdie the room and started phoning any family member who wold pick up and listen to her. But she left so that Sonny would not be "mad" at her, and then she could not get the words out to Carly that her husband was in full mania and needed her help.

I reserve judgement on Sonny taking control of his situation until I see that he has (talked to his doc, got back on the meds).

But today was no intervention. Nor was Nina staying the night becuase of two little girls who were not even there. This was about Nina hanging around until she hears the wrods from Sonny that she wants to hear.

I think you hit on a really important point: Nina is more concerned with doing what will please Sonny vs what is best for him. Love is selfless, so true love would bring anyone and e eruone who could help Sonny, who has done this before with him, who he has expressed he wants. Instead. She makes the choice that makes her look and feel best.

Nina has an unhealthy obsession with Sonny and should be no where near him yet there she always is lurking in a corner.

I do not think this story is sending a good message to be honest. I mean I have dealt with episodes with my mother and I would be furious if someone who was not family deiced to take control of the situation and leave me out of it. I see so many people saying "oh good for Nina for respecting Sonny's wishes" well first off someone in a mental health crisis is not thinking clearly and respecting their wishes could lead to them seriously getting hurt. Second I see people saying "its not Nina's place to tell Sonny's family its up to Sonny its his responsibility" again he is in a mental health crisis he can't be left to take responsibility of letting others know he is in a episode actually most people in a crisis lose insight and do not even realize anything is wrong!

I find this desperate attempt to prop up Nina to be rather irresponsible and I think it is sending the wrong message to viewers from some of the reactions I have seen.

I agree. I keep going back to this: if Nina found Laura shot, and got her help but didn't call Kevin because Laura asked her not to in her injured and fragile and compromised state, well, I think everyone would agree its a poor choice, and that Kevin should be told. This isn't all that different. Sonny is in a medical crisis, and his desire to not tell his family does more harm than good.

THIS - this is what I was trying to say. Back when he didn't have a diagnosis - even then - Carly and Jason would stay with him because they were afraid for him. They didn't leave - even when he yelled at them to leave. Sonny left the house and went outside without gloves.

I understand Carly not picking up on the fact that he was not on his meds because their situation - but to have Drew and Dante miss this, yet Nina knew exactly what was going on. If they were trying to make me hate Nina more, it's working. This entire push is backfiring - if I was supposed want Nina and Sonny together, that's not what is happening. As a matter of fact, I didn't really like Ava or Britt the past few days. Drew sitting at the bar after Sonny was manic right in front of his was annoying, but to have Nina walk in and immediately know what was wrong - it's insulting.

cruella369 I actually laughed when Nina's explanation as to how she knew Sonny was having a manic episode was from stories Phyllis told her. It is like give me a break writers lol.

Go to the sight that cannot be named and type in S&C pt.2: More post-Juan breakdown those scenes are POWERFUL and some of the first real Carly/Sonny scenes. This Nina/Sonny thing feels like a second rate 1/2 a day rewrite of some of the best scenes in GH history.
