ARTICLE: Genie Francis taking the summer off

Genie Francis said she was taking the summer off so we will not be seeing Laura for a while. She did say she was absolutely coming back. I feel like summer is almost over so made she stopped filming some time ago.

If only that pill Jill Phelps would’ve let Genie start having summer vacations back in 2002 like Tony always had we may not have had to deal with Laura the zombie for all those years sitting in a chair as a vegetable.

It;s a well known fact that JFP did not like Genie Francis. example the minute she got back into the game at Y & R, she fired Genie. JFP catered to the men on the show, not the women. Tony Geary was her pet and if TG wanted to keep Genie off the show, JFP made sure Genie was kept off the show for more than a decade and only used her for a ratings grab. JFP also gave the women on OLTL a hard time too. Just read some of Robin Strauser's comments. JFP and Frons and Guza led GH to the closest it's ever come to being cancelled.

During the JFP era Vanessa Marcil was supposed to come back for good, but when the shooting schedule was a little difficult on her small child she asked to have her storyline cut back just a little bit or reschedule some shooting days. They refused to comply. Citing TG's ability to come and go as he pleased, she quit.

Well whatever, looks like she changed her mind or bumped it up to the fall. She probably gets a good 5-6 weeks off a year. Love Genie and will miss her when/if she takes a break!

They film at least two months in advance. If she took off, say, July and August, we won't notice her absence on screen until September.

Every year Genie and her husband and kids go to their home in Maine and stay a month or more.

And I feel like I've seen Genie/Laura make several appearances on this show since attending Sean Donely's memorial... which was back in May... and I think I saw her in the previews for Monday's episode. Also, like you said the summer's almost over and this show films its episodes like a month before they air so that's strange. Maybe she'll stop appearing in around late August and throughout September or so.

Shouldn't this have been announced in April or May, ya know at the start of summer vs. the last two or three weeks of summer?

Whichever the case, I can't wait to get her back because the show has been ridiculously awful since her final scenes, sending Cyrus to jail. The show has been horrible for the past two or three months.

Why did that have to announce it way back in April or May that she was going to be off the canvas in August or September or October? She took the summer off from filming; they are still showing episodes she filmed before her break.

It seems to me that Laura can't have an excuse to leave town for a while. Such as go hang out at Lulu's bedside, or, an extended visit with her mother, Leslie, because, as Mayor, she has a City to pay attention to. She'll still be around, but only in off-screen GH. Referred to, but never seen...

That makes perfect sense. People can take phone calls from her, or go see her, "I had lunch with Laura today...." doesn't have to happen on screen.

Maybe she has been off but now it is time to show the shows filmed during the earlier summer.

Sometimes I think it is better to have her just not seen then to come up with reasons for the mayor to skip town for months

Strange timing to announce a summer vacation, when summer's nearly over. I guess it's an extended break, and she's pretaped enough to not really be off-screen for that long.

I know a lot of people who prefer their vacations in the autumn when it's a bit cooler and there aren't mobs of people around. I wish her a wonderful vacation. The show doesn't have quite as much heart when she's not on.

Genie usually takes summers off just as Finola Hughes takes time off. This is not a new thing

Geez what will they say on the show to say where she is? Must be nice to have that in your contract.
But don't get how this will go forth with Lulu still in a coma. I guess Laura will miss all the Sam and
Dante kissy faces. Oh and take Kevin with you. Please!!
