  • Luke and Laura's legacy for a new viewer

I'm trying to get into GH and all I hear about it on other forums is Luke and Laura this, Luke and Laura that - do they have family legacy left on the show? What do I need to know?

Bobbie is Luke's sister and Carly is his niece through her. Lulu and Nikolas are Laura's children, as is Lucky, Elizabeth's ex.

Carly is Bobbie's daughter not Patricia; that is Val who is Patricia's daughter. They are both his nieces

Lulu is also Luke's child. She and Lucky are full siblings, the kids of Luke and Laura.

I started watching in laten 1993 so to me the whole L&L supercouplke thing was new too and I was stunned by what i found out about them as a new viewer

Basically, Laura was married to teenage boyfriend Scott Baldwin but went to work for Luke at the Disco club where he ended up raping her because there was some sort of contract put on his life if he didnt kill Tracy's husband Mitch Williams, a corrupted DA (??? really not sure about that one sorry) LOng story short he raped her at the disco club, but ended up having a string of adventure with her and they somehow fell in love. (i wanna barf at that one tbh)

They left when she returned from coming back from the dead on the Cassadine Island where she had Stavros' son, Nikolas.

Luke and Laura have two kids together, Lulu whommis still around and Lucky whom is presumably still in afirca but in my head he is still married to Siobhan and living in ireland for some reason so take it for what its worth

Other than Lulu there is NO tie for Laura to LUke currently living in town other than a sister in law Laura never bothers to have time to visit anyway, Bobbie Spencer, Carly's mother. for reason that escapes me, Laura and Carly are cordial to one another even though they hated each other when they were co-owner of Deceptions or Jax Cosmetic i cant remember which.

    I hope it helps

That does help, thank you so much!

It's so interesting that they're still "the thing" mentioned about GH when they don't have much of a legacy on the show anymore? I was expecting something like DOOL or Y&R where so many vets are still around and legacy kids are now in their own supercouples

I think GH consider Lulul a big enough Spencer thing on her own which is really disapointing to me

I liked Luke backin the days when he was living at Mary Ward's old house and being a good dad to Lucky and a good husband to Laura (i remeber those days and it pains me that their legacy as you call it has been reduced to Lulu shrieking everyonce in a while to give her a reaspon to exist

but when Laura left the second time (or third time not sure) Luke became such an a-hole the show made that whole thing about Luke & Tracy being endgame yet i never really felt that Luke truly luiked Tracy (Ned's mom. btw) . He saw her as disposable income and that always saddened me that Tracy would be reduced to clinging to a sad piece of crap like Luke.

Wow that just made me think of one more connection: Luke is Ned's styepfather. making him i guess Brook Lyn's step-grandfather.

Youd never know it tought I doubt that BL even mentionned him even once

That was the fifth time Laura left, as an adult.

Brooklynn was in Port Charles for very little of the time that Luke and Tracy were involved.

Lulu is a horror show of everything that is rampantly noisy, overloud-talking clown and she and Dante deserve each other hot mess.

I'd rather go on a date with Nelle, than listen to Lulu talk for more than 5 1/2 seconds.

BUt back when BL returned and was hired by Carly to trick by Dante I had the impression that BL interacted a bit more with her step-grandfather.

I disliked the first Lulu so for me current clown Lulu works better for me but i get what you mean

Go to soapcentral.com and click at the bottom of the page on character profiles (who's who). This should help you navigate the character of Laura through the years.

other than being Ned's stepfather and Lulu's dad (ad by extension an absentee grandfather to Rocco and Charlotte) and being Carly's uncle/Bobbi's brother ( and by extension Lucas's uncle but does he even vcount as a current GH character????) i dont think thaT he has that many connection to current GH

Laura doesn't have that many connection either tbh which is kind of sad

This whole thread makes me sad. Lucky was a wonderful character. Lucky and Elizabeth were supposed to be the legacy couple to Luke and Laura.

The Spencers were the blue collar Indiana Jones type of characters that weren’t rich, but raw and real and had the pulse of everyone in the town. Luke was the guy who had everyones number and wasn’t afraid to call them out.

What a shame for the Spencers. Now all we have is Laura, Lulu...Bobbie and Elizabeth... and Elizabeth’s kids since Laura is the biograndma of one and claims the rest as her grandkids...

But no direct Spencer influence to balance out all the mobsters and rich people.

Most of the Vets were retired during the Guza period. However, some were brought back, i.e. Scotty played by Kin Shriner is the oldest remaining legacy character on canvas. He was introduced as Scotty in 1965, and has played the character off and on. Bobbie and Monica are considered legacy characters, as well although they were introduced in the 70's. Jackie Zeaman originated Bobbie, and Leslie Charleston is the second Monica. Genie Francis also joined in the 70's and is the only actress to play Laura, so she is considered a legacy as well. Denise Alexander who originated the character of Leslie Webber is Laura's birth mother, and has made occasional appearances over the years. The Quartermaine's would be the legacy family that has the most family members as part of the current canvas now that Brooklyn has returned and added to the family. As the original actors started to retire, passed away, or written off, the show became more focused around TG (Luke), GF (Laura) through the 80's and part of the 90's into the 2000's and MB (Sonny), VM (Brenda)in the 90's, and MB(Sonny) SB, TB, LW (Carly), SB (Jason), and KM (Sam) through the 2000's into now. BTW...Rachel Ames, who is the character of Liz's grandmother is the only living cast member from the original broadcast in 1963.

Rachel Ames definitely not original cast - I think she came on within the first year but sometime in 1964 after the show had been on for nearly a year. Long before my time but I believe her older sister was Lucille March and was either the Head Nurse or something going back to the first shows. I want to say from what i've read, Lucille appeared through the late 70's and then was written off to retirement probably around the early part of the Gloria Monty era. Rachel Ames (Audrey) was on contract until 2002 when our favorite former EP, Jill Farren Phelps started her dismantling of the show. She appeared recurring for a few years and then retired, though she's come out of retirement for a few shows over the years...2009, 2013, 2015 if memory serves correctly. She's now over 90 years old and though I'd love to see it, I'm kinda doubting we will see any more appearances at this point.

There was definitely a younger Laura that appeared for a few years before Genie took the role over in 1976.

While Scotty as a character has indeed been on and off canvas since 1965 (as a small child), Kin Shriner didn't start to play the role until 1977. Always seemed like lots of popular GH actors started in 1977....Leslie Charleson (Monica), Stuart Damon (Alan), Jackie Zeman (Bobbie), Kin Shriner (Scott) to name a few.

Sorry got dates wrong. My Great Grand-Nana filled me in when I started watching. I started watching when I was around 4. My first memories is when Luke and Laura went on the run for the 1st time, when he was supposed to marry Frank Smith's daughter, and ended up overboard, and on the run with Laura. I will always remember their ballroom dance, when they spent the night in Wyndam's Department Store.

Would TPTB have sent Laura with Robert even if Genie were not on vacation? I'm not sure they would have.

As I understand it, Genie takes vacations on a regular schedule, and there was no reason this Holly storyline needed to happen at this exact moment (it could have easily been scheduled to be taped when Genie was not on vacation, imo).

I could be mistaken, but I've gotten the impression the (lack of) planning went something like this:

TPTB #1: We want to be able to claim to do something shocking during the first episode after the covid-reruns.

TPTB #2: We could bring back the actor who plays Dante and give him PTSD.

TPTB #1: Yes! There could be a dramatic scene of Olivia going to see Dante and not being able to see him!

TPTB #2: Who should accompany Olivia to see Dante? Ned?

TPTB #1: Let's just send Robert with her; we can bring back Nathan Parsons (Ethan) and write a few plot points about them too.

TPTB #2: Yes, sounds great! We will be able to claim we focus on veteran GH characters. Maybe viewers will forget the veterans are hardly ever on and the focus of the show is the newbies.

I don't really think Luke and Laura have much of a legacy to speak of. His happily ever after was with someone else and so far Lulu is the only one who hasn't just walked out on her kids. Boring as many may think she is, i actually like that she's not like Luke. For me Laura was the only part of that couple that was worth anything.

LUke spent his last 10 years on the show claiming that being married and having kids were balls and chains and that if Tracy wanted to have the ''pleasure'' of his company she'd have to accept that he would walk in and out of her life whenever he pleased.

For pete's sake, the show went so far as to completly retcon the 90ies Spencer by having LUke cheating on Laura regularly with Holly which produced Ethan.

He also always looked down on Lucky for marrying Liz and claiming her kids as his.

LUke was a terrible human being from start to finish.

The Spencer were a family full of awesome characters but especially Luke, such a colorful character who wore many different hats both good and bad. Lucky and Ethan are also severely missed as well. Laura's not even a Spencer anymore, barely ever see Bobbie, they seem to have never wanted Carly and her family tied to Luke and his kids, and if this version of Lulu is all that's left of the Spencers that is sad.
