CLOUDFARE Security Message

Over the past few days you may have received a "Checking if the site connection is secure" message when accessing the site. This is perfectly normal and not cause for alarm.

This message indicates that the server is confirming that the SSL (the "s" that you see in the https before web addresses) security is, in fact, secure. This is not some sort of advertisement and it is not some sort of nefarious hacking.

Cloudfare, which is a provide of web hosting and security, has recently added this layer of security on the Soap Central message boards platform as an added layer of security.

The message may occur any time that your browser makes a new connection to the boards. The message may also stop appearing at any time as the process is further integrated into the boards.

    Advisory: Guideline Reminders

I know we just recently had a sticky up about missing threads and posts but I felt like it was time to post other reminders. One thing I am noticing an over abundance of is replacing character names with something else in every instance. Nicknames are okay on an occasional instance as long as they aren't inflammatory but a characters name should never be replaced by anything else.

In regards to a previous sticky, I still see complaints about missing threads and posts being posted on the board. If you want to know why a thread has been removed please email a moderator. Complaining about it on the board is just disruptive and against guidelines.

    1. Respect the board, its posters, and its moderators. Do not post inflammatory messages just to upset people

    2. Do not spam the board. Advertising other boards, services, products and the like is not permitted.

    3. Please post messages that are on-topic. Look over the entire message board forum for a similar thread/topic before making a post. We don't want a board full of threads that discuss the same thing. When making a post, please be as descriptive as possible with the subject line. Descriptive titles reduce the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read.

    4. Do not post spoilers in the subject of your messages. Do not reveal spoilers in threads that are spoiler-free (not already discussing spoilers).

    boards.soapcentral.com/help?faq=board_guidelines#board_guidelines/guidelines_rules

This is your chance to ask questions, please let us know if you have questions about any of the rules.

Thank you, Shelly! We're still having problems with vague topic titles (made-up examples: "Who knew?", "I only wish they had...", "Not happy with this!", etc.), duplicate topics, and the improper posting of spoiler information. Placing spoiler information in the title of a spoiler topic is not permitted, nor is any reference to spoiler information (no matter how vague it might be) permitted inside non-spoiler discussions. It is also not permitted to randomly mark a non-spoiler topic as a spoiler discussion, just to attract attention to your new discussion.

I'm also copying -- again -- our policy on the proper and inappropriate use of character nicknames. This has been stuck numerous times, over the years, but we continue to have violations:

    Character Nicknames

Our policy on nicknames is based on the guidelines. Essentially, to boil it down, a nickname must be used in context of the show and/or thread discussion, it cannot be used as a replacement for a character's name in every single post about that character, and it can't be used for baiting purposes. Here is a more in-depth explanation of using nicknames that has been posted as an advisory, from time to time, and a few of the guidelines that are important to keep in mind when considering the use of a nickname:

*Any personal attacks or mean-spirited remarks about the performers are not permitted.

*Do not post inflammatory messages just to upset people.

*Racial, ethnic, sexual and/or gender based insults slurs or derisive comments will not be tolerated. Additionally, no pornographic, sexually explicit or obscene posts will be permitted.

Instead of posting a specific list of which names are allowed, and which names aren't, we wanted to describe, in broader terms, the types of names that can't be used.

    Nicknames that are NOT permitted:

Nicknames with racist, ethnic or religious undertones.

    Nicknames that are obscene.

    Nicknames that demean sexual orientation.

Nicknames that incite political or moral debates.

Nicknames that reflect negatively on the actors.

Nicknames that are not within the context of the character's history or actions.

Nicknames that attempt to bypass the language filter.

A nickname is not to be used as a replacement for the character's name, especially if it is derisive.

Tagging on words such as "ho" and "skank".

Morality is completely subjective, based upon the personal beliefs of each individual on this forum. Tagging on "ho" to a character's name does not move the discussion forward, and needlessly antagonizes fanbases. If you feel that a character is sexually promiscuous, you can discuss this opinion in an appropriate post, but you don't need to remind everyone of your views by using the "ho" tag at the end of the characters name every time you post. Not all discussions are about a character's sexual history. (Note: This rule is similar to the one just above which prohibits the replacement of a character's name with a derisive one. Tagging "ho" onto a character's name is different from posting that a character exhibited skanky behavior, which is allowed.)

I actually see a lot of people referring to the Corinthos family by Corinthii and that isn't okay either, especially if it is used exclusively. Nicknames like that are baiting. Same with referring to Nelle by everything but Nelle.

I have a question about private messaging. Sometimes I've sent a private message and the person does respond, but that response isn't sent to me. I can only read it if I click on the sender's name and read the response there. Yet other times, I receive a visitor's message and am alerted by a notification. Why does that happen?

I don't readily have an answer for this but I will look into it. I do know that I don't always receive messages sent to me in the PM which is why we ask that people send emails instead.

If you post a comment on someone's page and they reply, then the reply will be only visible on their page. You won't get a notification because it's not your page.

If someone posts on your page, you reply, and they reply back, then you will receive a notification for each response because it's your page.

The notifications are only to alert you of new activity on your page, not on other pages.

I am so confused by private messaging and responding to a visitor message. How does that work?

It's not really private messaging because everyone who visits your wall can see what is posted. It's more, public posting off of the boards. That's why moderators can't answer guidelines enforcement questions on people's walls.

I explained above a bit how it works, but the best way to view your wall is as your own message board. It remains public for all to see, but you can discuss off-topic (non soap related stuff), but the rules still apply. No bashing posters, bypassing the language filter, no spam, porn, and links to competitive sites.

If someone posts something that you object to, you should be able to remove the post yourself. If not, contact a moderator and we will take care of it.

If there's someone you would like to have OT conversations with, you can go to their page and initiate a conversation with them on their wall.

I didn't even realize we have our own "wall" here. When I click on my username, I get options to go to my profile, subscribers, log out and something else. I can never find where other posters have written a message to me. I get notifications of a visitor message when they write to me, I can click on that and read what they wrote and then I can respond. But it doesn't seem to send my reply back to them. Then I can never find it again.

I'm sorry, I'm pretty challenged when it comes to navigating most things on the internet. lol

Is it possible to make ONE sticky topic discussing time jump ideas? Every day there are 2 or 3 new threads made on this topic.

It is not an original thread each time.

Sorry if this isnt the thread for this but When you make a post and someone comments on it. Is there a way to quote that post into a completely new post instead of just continuing the comment chain ?

They finally explained on the Y&R board how to change your settings in order to see how to contact the moderators. It's a little complicated for people like me, but they walked you through it at Y&R. If you don't do that, you can't readily see the mods' email information at the bottom of their posts. Try it, it works.

Once you can see the mods email contacts, then you can email them to ask why your thread was deleted, etc.

I originally couldn't see the signatures, and someone told me the trick.

Click on your photo/name on the upper right and select 'user settings' from the drop down.
Go to the tab that says 'account.'
Scroll down to 'Conversation Detail Options'
Then, under 'Visible Post Elements', you will see a checkbox next to 'Show Signatures.'
Once you check this box and save, you will be able to see the emails in the signature lines for each mod.

I also wanted to remind everyone that threads that tend to invite actor bashing aren't likely to last very long. These are the ones that ask to compare recasts or who do you think would be better in the role.

I have a question. I posted on the thread New announcement from Ca Governor on TV production on the latest update from Soap Opera Network on when the Soaps will be resuming and it was marked unapproved. Did I do something wrong by posting it?

The system flagged your post because of something suspicious that suggested that it might be spam. No need to panic. All moderators periodically check the unapproved folder throughout the day and approve the posts.

It is just strange that someone responds to the person who made the comment and the first poster never is made aware of the response. One almost has the stalk the other person's page to see if they've gotten a response. But thanks for the response.

We've had a few upgrades recently, and each always comes with a host of glitches. However, if someone does post on your wall, even if it's in response to something that you posted, it should give you a new notification. I will try to test the system out this weekend.

Maybe the best way to respond to a private message is by going directly to that person's name (wall) and answering them there. Its counterintuitive, because the inclination is to answer them right under their message to you.

Lizincinti Thanks. You do get the notification as long as the person goes to your wall to respond. The inclination is to respond to the message below it, one`s own wall. If you do that, the other person will never see your response unless they specifically return to look for it.@xoregonian and I tested it.
