  • Possible Solution To The Nurses Ball

Since the timing of the quarantines has put a damper on this year's Nurses Ball plans, here's what I'd like to see:

We see Lucy (LH by herself) receiving a phone call that delivers the bad news that for some reason (last minute sponsor bailout, problem with the venue, etc.) the event has been cancelled. As Lucy frets over the situation, we are treated to her reflections with flashbacks of the best Nurses Ball moments and highlights over the course of a couple of episodes.

At the end, we cut back to Lucy, still disappointed but comforted by her memories of all the Nurses Balls she's helmed. She dries her tears, takes a breath, and says with a smile "You know what, that's okay...this little setback just gives me another year to make the next Nurses Ball the most spectacular event Port Charles has ever seen!"

A flashback show is a great idea.

I have a different final line for the ending.

CL made it public she has the Corona Virus.

I'd have Lucy's last words be something like, "Damn that Nelle. She's responsible for all of this bringing that virus to Port Charles."

      MalteseBaby,

Some articles were on Yahoo recently quoting her as saying she was ill and thinks it's the CV, pending a test.

Here's a quote copied from one article: Chloe Lanier (Port Charles’ Nelle Benson) has updated that she’s feeling better....the actress had taken ill and was self-isolation. In a new Instagram post she writes, “Hey guys. I’m starting to feel like myself again. Thank you all for reaching out!!

Sam_Philly_Girl Thank you so much for the update on Chloe! I CERTAINLY do NOT hate either the actress or the character she plays. I like the work of the young lady very much, as she's greatly talented. I have almost hated Nelle at times because she's been written to inspire negative feelings.. Now, I just want there to be some mending in her heart and mind and a sense of being loved and life balance.

That would make it seem like GH was making light of the pandemic. Coronavirus isn't something to joke about.

Highlights of the old Nurses' Balls sounds like a good idea.

This sounds like a great idea. Lucy can act as narrater, tying the flashbacks together , I assume with LH recording herself from home. I do think they should either come right out and say it’s canceled due to the virus or not give a reason at all. We all know why.

Now that is something I really would like to watch. I used to love the Nurses Ball. Nowadays it is just a cheap knockoff, usually squeezed into other characters storylines.

I'd be fine with just skipping it all together. God knows, any clip show would have to include that horrible "You are not Alone" song. UGH.

I'd pay a million dollars right now to see a TRUE CLASSIC NB.

Like the 98 one where they did Jail House Rock, or Big Spender, or even Lucy and Katherine singing Anything You can do I can Do Better

The red carpet garbage over the fun montages they used to do - just doesn't cut it

I go to UTube alot when I can't sleep -
GH vintage Nurses Balls - ( I'd post links, but I'm afraid they would be removed )
just type in the year, they're all there

I'd let it just go away without any notice or comment. Nurses aren't exactly in celebration mode in the US or world right now. My friends who are RNs, Anesthesiologists, and MDs are having many issues that will probably cause long lasting side effects. A whole generation of health care professionals are going to be changed forever by what they're seeing and dealing with, and working until they get sick too.

There are no victories in this, nothing at all to celebrate, just struggling and either living or dying for them too.

Now, back to happier soap talk with a twist:
Maybe when all this is over, Nik and Ava can host one of Nik's infamous costume masked balls!! Those two together are like a match to gasoline in the mischief and mayhem they can cause.

ScrubsFan#1 I understand about traditions on soaps. They did go away slowly, because, we, as a nation are so diverse that someone is likely offended by almost anything that can be said or done to celebrate almost ANYTHING that's a holiday event.

You make good points about the Nurse's Ball and I do hope it will come back because it means a lot to many viewers. As a nurse, I find it extremely unrealistic and some parts almost unbearable, but that's " soap world" for you! Also, not to be a naysayer, but there are so many new medications and protocols to prevent HIV in high risk lifestyles and to treat it now, that I'm not sure money for research is needed. Plus, Robin is off the show and will never be back. I know you likely watched her grow up, but I didn't, so I was never a great fan of Scrubs.

I do love the idea of making it a benefit to find 1) Antivirals for ( almost) all people who are exposed to SARS- CoV and develop COVID-19. 2) A rapid efficient test and 3) The most important thing, a vaccine OR a mixture of Coronavirus vaccines ( like the flu virus vaccine is because it mutates) that will protect people seasonally with no horrible side effects like GBS. Also, to those of us with knowledge of bacteriology and virology, the next SARS- CoV is just around the corner. ONE lab mistake that can't be undone, and there's Patient Zero. I'd like to see funding for a protective type lab in Port Charles that hires top notch bioscientists to monitor the world for trends that may indicate emerging contagious diseases, (which we actually once had in real life....)

We all have different viewpoints, and mine are recent..
One of the first SLs I ever saw on GH was with Nik and Emily at Wyndemere. I LOVE Wyndemere, and find Nic and Ava to normally be deep characters. I truly would love to see a new version of the Black and White ball at Wyndemere in the form of a costume ball. Wyndemere Bacchanalias were the things of legends. I remember a couple.
Turn them into charitable events and honor all who serve Port Charles..There are TONS of unsung heroes keeping us safe IF we do our part, too. Plus, I think Nik and Ava would truly shine in their element- something we haven't seen yet.

I respect and appreciate your opinion and different point of view. But personally for ME - the unique magic and charm of the Ball was getting the entire cast together - and watching their co-workers perform with THEIR natural talents on stage. Getting to hear Eddie Maine, Ricky Martin, Jack Wagner, and JPS has been amazing. Alan Q, Ned, and Robin singing Somewhere to Watch Over Me, Lucky, Liz, and Taggert acting out and singing Jailhouse Rock, AJ and Jason doing a comedy skit. Tony, Kevin, Alan, and Emily singing "If I Only Had a Brain from the Wizard of Oz/ Mary Mae, Justus, Luke, and Lucky singing Midnight Train to Georgia, Bobbie and Luke singing Last Dance/ Scotty, Mac, and Edward Q wrapped up in a feather boa singing Girls Just Want to Have Fun with Robin, Emily, and Maxie.

There is NO other unique platform on any daytime soap - where there entire cast can come together like they do on the Nurse's Ball - to do these phenomenal performances on stage for each other. And IMO nothing else will ever be comparable.

It is too bad that these writers cannot capture the magic - and the fun of them that they've had in the past. Because we still have some very talented actors on board that could still pull it off.

And it no longer has to be about HIV - the point is for the community to get together and put on performances to raise money for those who truly need it - and to recognize the nurse's hard work at the hospital. That doesn't have to change

I missed the special years. I wish I hadn't, but I did. I would love to see years of Nurses' Balls on DVD or in the Flashback Fridays. I do not, however, think they are going to pay royalties and residuals for the older ones to air. I really hate that!

Oh interesting. I never heard anybody say it's maudlin before. And overused? They didn't sing it last year on the nurses ball.
