All of these interruptions are hurting the soaps. That’s what the news and 24 hour news channels are for. Streaming is also an options for people who want to continually hear the same things over and over again.

If you really look at those numbers they are not all that different than they have been for a couple of years now. I just read that Nielson is now doing ratings for all forms of watching, not just the TV (if people DVR or watch later ON Demand). If people really want to watch soaps they can do it by other options and I don't think they are. JMHO.

Sorry, but I don't think they would be much better even if there were no interruptions going on right now. There are so many other options. When I watch GH now it is on the abc app after 8 p.m. because you can ff'd that (and believe me, I do a lot of that these days. The show is a mess, IMO). There are too many major stories going on at the same time so that one or two stories get pushed to backburner for weeks while Wiley and Willow and Co. take center stage with the same repetitive dialog going on. I am retired and I am mostly watching Netlix, Hulu and Amazon Prime who all have fantastic shows on. Most of my friends and family who are home right now are doing the same. No one I know watches soaps much anymore.
