I do not like Marcus...at all

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand him being upset about his wife slipping away from him and being in love with Mike. But he's placing blame where it doesn't belong. Instead of blaming the disease, he's acting like Mike is doing all of this intentionally, knowing full well that Mike has Alzheimers just like his wife does. That just grates on my nerves!

Well I don't blame him one bit for being ticked off but of course he's gonna have to bend over and accept it

I feel bad for him too. I just don't like how he's acting like Mike is doing all of this intentionally....like he's pretending to be sick or something. It is a no win situation all the way around though...I completely agree.

Unpopular opinion, but I don't like Mike. He's a shady jerk, always has been and having Alzheimer's doesn't change that. There is no way the facility would let people keep expensive jewelry. That goes to family.

I do like Marcus. He's the stand-up guy in this.

I thought I was the only one who doesn't like Mike! Gosh, I find Mike so annoying and unlikable!

I have always been team Marcus and I feel bad for him.

I don’t like Mike either and Marcus has every right to be upset. There’s no reason his wife and Mike should have an opportunity to be around each other.

Marcus is the only one in this story that I DO like. I hate how Sonny is practically running rough shod over him in order for Mike to get what he wants.

Besides. From all I have heard of the disease, it is the short-term memory that goes and the past is fresh in their minds or keeps popping up. I don't understand how Yvonne remembers Mike and every day but cannot remember her husband from long ago.

I agree. That is one of the things that is off in this story.

My grandmother suffered from dementia an entire decade before she died. Her memories of the past were as unpredictable as her memories of the present. Every patient is different.

Frankly, the way this story line has gone, Marcus is the only person I feel sympathy for.

I can put myself in his shoes because I'm my wife's caretaker. She's in end stage Alzheimer's.

It is inconceivable to me a spouse would be put in this position by anybody in the medical and/or social work field.

      Mike has Daytime Drama Dementia.

I'm happy for MG getting his Emmy, but this Mike/Yvonne thing is wrong, IMO.

This plot is making the spouse/caregiver the bad guy for not want to give Mike whatever he wants.

The relationship between Mike and Yvonne is realistic. Sandra Day O'Connor had to learn to accept that her husband began a relationship with another patient when he had Alzheimer's and didn't know her any more.

As someone whose mother was a caretaker for a relative with dementia for a long time, I'm so sorry for what you're experiencing with your wife. You are a loving spouse to care for her. I hope you have people caring for you.

Sam_Philly_Girl - I am sorry you and your wife are having to go through this. I watched my Mom slip away from Alzheimer’s. She was put into a nursing home her last 2 years of life because of other health ailments. She was “drifting” for about 8-10 years before that. She had some long term memory, but it would get mixed up. She would remember events that happened to my sister, but insisted it was me. Then she “remembered” things that weren’t true at all. It was hard for me, my Dad never talked about it, he was of the era that didn’t express feelings “out loud”. Anyway, I just wanted you to send you a cyber hug of peace ❤️

I don’t think Marcus is the bad guy. It is awful what he is going through. I know everyone wants what is best for their loved ones. When my Mother went into the nursing home with health issues and Alzheimer’s, we were told to keep any valuables at home.

Disagree. Marcus broke my heart today. He's spent forty or fifty years loving this woman and now he's supposed to watch Mike proposing to her. Would love for her to have a lucid moment where she remembers Marcus and is scared of mike.
does this mean Marcus cant e his wife because it might upset mike? Felt that everyone was pressuring Marcus to leave. Sonny, Stella etc. Shouldn't Marcus feeling be considered a little bit? Finally I feel sorry for Marcus because unlike sonny he has no support system. He seems to be carrying the pain all by himself. Would love for Marcus and Yvonne to have one scene where she remembers him and they waltz like in "in the notebook".

Marcus seems like the only real life reaction in this whole story. I like him a lot.

Sonny is a downright insensitive jerk to him and his feelings about his wife.

This is what I dont get. The first lost is the more recent memories and really having trouble remembering what just happened. So to me it isn't believable that both of these people have lost their past but can remember each other from day to day Some people can not remember that they ate. They are more fixated in the pass. When I was visiting a friend there was another resident crying by the door that her son needed her and she had to go to little johnny. It was so sad.
Mike has not most inconsistent memory loss. He can plan out evil plots to go after Julain but he remembers his girliend from day to day. SHE forgets her husband. (that is believable at least not knowin who that old man is> But she too can remember Mike. It would be realistic if one of them got uspset at the other for being too close and bothering them

                @ Sam_Philly_Girl ... always good thoughts ♥♥

This S/L hits very close to home for so many.... I thought it was beautifully done in the beginning -- but now it's gone way off-track...
                It feels insulting.

                Hi,

This story had so much potential on so many levels. You're so right about how its' gone way off track.

The writers could've focused on Mike's illness and how Sonny, Carly and others would be affected and how they would try to help him.

The Nurse's Ball was a great set up where so much of the cast was shown suffering silently along with Mike when he had that episode on stage.

Instead, the writers had Mike try to blow up Julian's Pub, lie to the police by faking his symptoms, hitting on another man's wife, and even stealing Finn's ring.

As well done as Oscar's tragic story unfolded, the writers have completely lost their way with this story.

My heart went out to Marcus today. He and Yvonne obviously had a long, loving marriage and he has had no choice but to watch her slip away, slowly and completely. And although it isn't right to blame Mike for the situation, Marcus has picked Mike to blame, probably out of total frustration. As others have said, it is a no-win situation.

All I could think today was putting myself in Marcus's shoes and it felt so wrong that he is to stand by and be an observer after years of a loving marriage with Yvonne. I felt so bad for him.

Everyone here who may be interested in a similar story, please do watch the movie "Away From Her," starring Julie Christie. A beautifully acted and totally realistic portrayal of Alzheimer's and its effect on a long-term marriage. ( Way better than the one with Julianne Moore titled "Still Alice.)
