I've seen it done before when one actor plays two characters, but how do they do it?

CLOUDFARE Security Message
Over the past few days you may have received a "Checking if the site connection is secure" message when accessing the site. This is perfectly normal and not cause for alarm.
This message indicates that the server is confirming that the SSL (the "s" that you see in the https before web addresses) security is, in fact, secure. This is not some sort of advertisement and it is not some sort of nefarious hacking.
Cloudfare, which is a provide of web hosting and security, has recently added this layer of security on the Soap Central message boards platform as an added layer of security.
The message may occur any time that your browser makes a new connection to the boards. The message may also stop appearing at any time as the process is further integrated into the boards.

scenes are shot with the lead character playing only one role. Later, the other role is played in a green screen area and both are added digitally added together.
if there is a fight scene where they are wrassling with eachother 1 is them is the actor and the other is a look a like, they film certain scenes where we only see the face of one and the back of the head of the other from both points of view
here is a link https://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/15/m...in-legend.html
how they did it back in the parent trap and how it is done today

Actually, the green screen isn't even necessary. As long as everything else in the scene stays fixed and the camera angle doesn't change, they can digitally combine Finola Hughes performing the scene twice as each character. As others have said, they can use doubles if the two characters interact. If the budget is good, the double can wear a mask to match the other main actor or their face can be digitally replaced in post.
