    Charlotte's late-night routine

Perhaps Charlotte is having trouble with her classes because Nina and Valentin keep her up late for no good reason that I can think of.

I'm not referring to her asking to go to the hospital to see her mother. That is perfectly understandable. However, what exactly was Charlotte doing up at that late hour anyway, and in Kelly's no less?

The book launch party had wrapped up by then, so it had to be well past 10pm. Kids that age should be in bed sleeping at that hour, not loading up on sugar.

It was stated that Lulu was supposed to have picked up Charlotte earlier but she was late - for obvious reasons.

It does seem strange that she would be picked up after a book signing. I know time makes no sense on a soap. They always seem to do a lot of things after some evening event.

When someone (Laura?) said yesterday that Valentine had been notified, they said Charlotte was asleep and would need to be told about her mother in the morning.

I missed that, but wow to the writers. So, Lulu makes plans for Rocco to spend the night with Olivia because she was working late, but also makes plans to pick Charlotte up after work?

Again, it's no wonder Charlotte is failing tests. Where is this poor child's routine?

This kind of goes along with "where are the kids" we get. Why can't she do her writing and snooping when they are at school or daycare? Why would she have to work at night. I tend to try to over look these things but it was weird to see Charlotte up so late Why didn't the writers just have Valentin talk to her when she was home with him?

A journalist working 9-5 on a daily basis would be extremely rare. I was a young mother also during my 15-year career as a journalist and was lucky enough to have a lot of daytime hours. That didn't mean there weren't nighttime assignments for meetings, events, afterhours interviews, etc. You also don't get to clock out at 5 if a story on your beat is breaking. It's just the nature of the beast. In those cases, you have back-up day care in place and hopefully a spouse/family who supports you and parents alone when needed (just like you would do for them). And I agree, Charlotte being up so late was weird. Nina and Valentin already knew about Lulu, so why were they sitting there letting Charlotte think her mother was coming? Another plot point that made so sense.

I get there are things that you can't schedule. But it seems she was just doing her snooping that could have been arranged for when Charlotte was at school or with her dad It also was a little funny that Charlotte said that mom said it was Important to keep to the schedule or the like. If you have a job that isn't stable hours you don't make those kind of statements about keeping the right schedule. THat is when you are glad your kid has another parent who loves and cares for her even if it is not "his time"

Lulu wasn't scheduled to pick up Charlotte until later in the evening after Lucy's insipid book launch. Additionally, Lulu had already been stabbed by the time she was supposed to pick up Charlotte. Nina and Valentin knew that, yet sat there with Charlotte instead of taking her home and explaining the situation to her. That still makes no sense. I would also not call Lulu's actions "snooping." She inadvertently received a tip from her mother about the number of Ryan's victims that she knew didn't sound right. She merely did an Internet search of Ryan's victims and found there were only seven. That was a good catch by a reporter investigating a major murder spree in her city. Lulu has been shown to be a very attentive, responsible mother. Getting stabbed by a psycho killer didn't change that.

Yeah, it was weird. Why not before the party and have Charlotte be with Rocco?

As to Lulu picking up Charlotte after the book signing at night the answer is quite simple.

Lulu comes first, kids come second. So what they are up all night while she chases her story.

You have it wrong, I am not talking about her being stabbed.

If you remember correctly Ms Lulu was still at the office chasing that story which is what got her stabbed, maybe if she had left with Laura and was not thinking of herself it might not have happened.
Either way the signing was at night, Charlotte could have stayed with Rocco.

Wait, this isn't just on Lulu. Valentin and Nina seemed to have absolutely no problem meeting up with Lulu after the book launch to drop off Charlotte.

It's clear that Charlotte's visitation with Lulu was more of a plot device to establish Charlotte's love and concern for her mother, but at the same time it's hard to argue that Charlotte wouldn't be falling behind in school when she keeps hours like that.

Lulu would be a terrible reporter indeed if she didn't follow up on a possible clue that might lead to a break in the case. Two unknown victims is a pretty significant development. Lulu called someone she believes is not a homicidal maniac. A man her mother was recently married to, so it's not like she was knowingly courting danger. She was making a quick call before heading out.

I think sloppy writing/editing makes it appear that Lulu was working in her office a lot longer that she actually was.

First, Lulu had taken Rocco to his grandmother Olivia for the night, so he was already asleep. Second, Nina and Valentin already knew Lulu had been stabbed and was fighting for her life and they still sat there at Kelley's and allowed Charlotte to believe her mother was still coming and just late. Third, this would imply that all working mothers, especially those working evenings, are poor parents who put themselves first. Reporters often have to work nights. I did, and I think my boys turned out quite well (apparently despite my poor mothering - lol).

Ekokai I had totally forgotten about that. Now I am really confused!

All I remember is Michael on the phone with Olivia talking about Rocco. She told Michael that Rocco was already asleep, and he replied they would have to tell him about his mother in the morning. A conversation about Charlotte may also have taken place. I just don't recall it.

Why didn't Lulu just have Charlotte stay with Olivia like Rocco

Nina and Valentin were at the book signing so she wasn't having time with her Poppa

So then Nina and Valentin left the party (that Nina was hosting) went home to Wyndemere, woke up Charlotte to bring her back from the island late at night to go to Kelly's to wait for Lulu?

Strange Arrangement. Why wouldn't Charlotte just be spending the night at Poppa's?
