I guess a little bit. Paul as the DA set up a sting operation on gun smugglers through Ava and Morgan wanting to prove himself a capable monster to Sonny inserted himself into the scene and then Kiki went to stop Morgan and got shot trying to get her boyfriend in the midst of an undercover operation.

that and the time Morgan kind of sort of held Kiki hostage in the cabin was the genesis of Ava deciding that Kiki would never be safe with Morgan and she would do,whatever she had to do to separate them.

I think the point is that both Sonny and Ava are horrible people and horrible examples of people. Once you start going to court to prove that one is a bad parent, then the history of the other will come up. Then it becomes what can be proven in a court of law. At this rate, Avery will have to be adopted by someone else. The best that they can do is try to work between themselves.
