I'm just watching yesterday's episode, and Sarah just said to Maggie that Maggie was mourning the love of her life. I had to pause at that. I thought Maggie and Victor were an unlikely pairing, but I saw their appeal. Still, they were not the love's of each other's lives. Sure, they had found love, but as Maggie's daughter, Sarah should know that Mickey was the love of Maggie's life and Caroline was Victor's. Those aren't secrets and it doesn't diminish Maggie and Victor's happiness. I have a hard time with these glaring untruths to suit a moment.

Maggie Mourning the Love of Her Life

I think you can find love with others, but you only have one great love. It doesn't diminish what you find later, but for me, the love of your life is one person. Sometimes you could be the love of someone's life, but they might not be yours. I think Justin is the love of Bonnie's life, but Adrienne was his. Doesn't change the love, it just facts. Victor and Maggie were in love and a good couple, but not the love of each other's lives. I don't see why they even mentioned that. It's not necessary, because they did love each other.

It really is an insult to history. Mickey was the love her life. They were together for decades and raised children together.

DayRose, In a complete rewrite of Maggie's history, she didn't find out until after Mickey had died and the whole scenario is so crazy and confusing it is really hard to explain.

DayRose Daniel and Summer didn't exist while Mickey was alive. They were both heavy rewrites of Maggie's history that never should have happened.
Trash Summer was written as a child Maggie had with some farm boy when she was young. She claimed her parents told her the baby was dead and thus she'd never told anyone about her, but in reality she was alive and Maggie had knowingly given her up for adoption. She was a blight on Salem and on Maggie until she finally died. Treated Maggie horrible much of the time. Many of us hoped she would reveal she was scamming Maggie, but unfortunately there was no fixing that damage.
Daniel, the rotten egg, was written into Maggie's history in a less egregious way, but still an awful rewrite. Maggie had some of her eggs frozen as part of an experimental project that might have allowed her and Mickey to conceive a child together. (I'm pretty sure this part did actually happen in the show.) They abandoned the project but her eggs were stolen, resulting in Daniel's mother becoming pregnant via surrogate with one of them. Victor knew all along that Daniel, his godson, was Maggie's via the stolen eggs and said nothing. It's possible he helped steal them, but I don't think that was ever stated in the show.
So neither of these things were a part of the show until the rewrites and Mickey was oblivious to both because the rewrites happened after he died and Maggie lied to the love her life about some major moments in her life. It was horribly out of character just to cram these characters into a core family.

icyblue2034, thank you for explaining all of that, because I couldn't find the right words to describe either situation. They were that crazy. As for Summer, I don't even remember her at all, so that tells you that she didn't really have much of an impact.

I think the reason writers do that is simply that the ones who do, which is most, simply don't care if they get something off in the
script or not. I saw comments elsewhere about the different script writers not knowing what each one had written, and it sure
looks like that so often. Most just put down whatever comes to mind.

Mickey and Maggie had a lot of elements in their story. They raised and adopted Melissa, but I think she was actually Bob Anderson's daughter. Mickey thought Mike was his, but he was his brother Bill's child. Janice and Sarah were also children they raised. I was very young back then, so this is all recollection. I don't think shared a biological children, but they had their family. I do remember their double wedding with Pete and Melissa.
I wish I could go back and watch those episodes. Classic classic Days.

Evianfan, actually, Melissa was Linda Anderson and Jim Philip's daughter, but yes Bob Anderson was her step father through his marriage to Linda. After his death, Mickey and Maggie adopted her.Last edited by tabbycat46; August 26, 2023, 03:39 PM.

Thanks for clarifying, tabbycat46. I knew Melissa had a relationship with Bob. I guess my memory was fuzzier than I thought.

Shawn Brady was the love of Caroline's life; she wasn't about to disrespect him after death like she did before with Victor. That's why those two could never work. We know Maggie loved Mickey but Victor was the current love of her life if we need to get specific. He just died and she's mourning him. So, I understand what Sarah meant.

If Caroline and Victor were together after Grandpa Shawn death. Victor would've been Caroline's second love of her life, just like Victor is for Maggie. Would people question the line if Caroline were mourning Victor? I guess having more than one love is subjective. Would you say that Marlena chose to be with the second love of her life John Black instead of Roman Brady.
-
-
No, because I think John is the love of her life. Before John, I thought it was Roman. When she fell for John she thought he was Roman, but he wasn't,but he was the love of her life, John. She loved Roman, but John was her greatest.
Somehow, what I'm saying is going over heads. You can love more than one person. Hope has been married to others and engaged several times, but Bo is the love of her life. Maggie's pain for Victor is real. She loved him fully, but Mickey was the love of her life. Caroline was Victor's, Shawn was Caroline's. What I'm saying is not rocket science. Everybody doesn't have a great love. Sometimes you aren't your love's greatest love, but it doesn't diminish the love you feel. I hate Sarah saying something that didn't need to be said to make Maggie's grief deeper. Hearing her saying that gave me pause, because Victor wasn't Mickey, but she still loved Victor.

Oh, I understood you but like Julie mentioned to Maggie she had 2 loves in her lifetime. Mickey died. Maggie moved on.

I agree that the wording of the sentence was odd.
What is good about Days is that many characters have had several great loves.

Mickey was horrible to Maggie during the last years of his life that I can't blame Maggie if she fell out of love with him. The entire Bonnie debacle was so downright disgusting to watch. He moved on to Bonnie within short time after Maggie "died." Fine, he was moving on. Too soon, but OK, we can't really blame him. But when Maggie came back, he should've immediately broke things off with Bonnie.. But instead, he was acting like Maggie coming back from the dead was one big inconvenience to him. He felt like Maggie was the one who stood in the way to his happiness with Bonnie. The things that were coming out of him mouth and his treatment of Maggie were dismal. Only after she finally mustered some courage and decided to leave, Mickey came back to his senses. But he was rarely shown after the wedding. He seem to be always working out of town for some reason. It wasn't said on the show but somehow I assumed that him and Maggie were separated and that was the reason why he was out of Salem and they were not living under the same roof. Say what you will about Victor, but at least, he was always loyal to Maggie and never made her doubt his feelings for her.
I think it is possible to have more than one love of your life. Look at Brady. Every woman that he dates becomes the love of his life after a few month. I think what Victor and Caroline had was more of a fantasy while Victor and Maggie were a real hands-on relationship.
