No matter how I look at it I see the character of Charlie as one of the most tragic and wronged characters on this show, he grew up knowing he had a mother that doesn’t love him or want him, no matter how good his father was that must have caused irreparable damage to the psyche of a young boy, this seems to have caused him to become obsessed with winning his mother acceptance and approval at any cost, and when he was older and he was still trying to get his mother love she asks him to spy on her favorite son the one whom she loves unconditionally, that must have driven him crazy with anger and jealousy which is why he ended up raping Allie, yes it was terrible and he might deserve some punishment for it but not with his life! And when he finally has a job and the girl of his dreams it all got destroyed and his mother couldn’t care less because Tripp reputation as a good guy and not being called a rapist is more important to her than Charlie whole life and future, and she even does everything she could to make sure he goes to prison without showing any signs of care or remorse about it instead of recognizing how much she wronged him and maybe gets him the help that he needs because she had to focus all of her attention on Tripp Tripp Tripp, in the end Charlie loses Claire and he never even gets to meet his son even once, and that psycho Jan Spears comes in to his apartment to shoot him for whatever reason, and when Ava finds him in his final breath he tells his mother that he loves her despite everything that has happened and begs for her to tell him she loves him too which she does but doesn’t really means it and then just walk away from his cold dead body, and even after his death she says she’s actually glad and relieved he’s gone and other people will only remember him as Charlie the rapist, how heartbreaking

Good post!I will never get why Charlie would rape Allie in the most disgusting way to set Tripp up. Maybe its also Allie's fault in setting Tripp up too in a nonverbal way. Meaning that she was jumping to a conclusion that it was Tripp who raped her. In a sad way....he could never win with his mother. His mother was all about Steve Johnson.

Yes cali815, he did it in his twisted way. But later, he did kind of, set Tripp up and did not wanted to get blame. He wanted to have a carefree life with clueless Claire. (I was going/responding by your Soap Central Message Boards comment here).

I concur with this post. This is Days' biggest problem: sacrificing an interesting character/actor for a short sighted plot driven storyline. The "shock" value story arcs do nothing to keep viewers tuned in- the rich backstory that make a character interesting do. He was doomed when he was cast as the rapist or as a foil for a murder mystery. It's super unfortunate for us viewers. Michael Manning is a find.

Exactly! I mean it would’ve been a different story if Ava said he was a born psychopath like Kai Parker in The Vampire Diaries or Joffrey Baratheon in Game of Thrones, someone who enjoyed torturing kittens when he was young, but the story they gave us is that he was a sweet little boy who did everything he possibly could to get his mother’s love and acceptance with no avail, they really shouldn’t have given him such a heartbreaking backstory if they always intended to just kill him offLast edited by Nick Fallon fan; May 17, 2022, 03:27 PM.

Charlie was an evil vile young man who chose to blame everyone else for his actions. He got exactly what he deserved in the end. Ava was never equipped to be a mother to him but her father basically had her raped so he could have a Grandson he could be proud of but he never cared that Ava was not in any emotional shape to have another baby.
Charlie was not a victim, he was a victimizer. Allie did not deserve to be raped because of some stupid sibling rivalry that was all in Charlie's screwed up mind.

By her own admission, Ava had a consensual relationship with Charlie's father .Charlie's father treated her extremely well and took over the child rearing duties once Ava decided she couldn't be bothered.
Ava , however, is a rapist. She raped Steve by coercing him into submitting to sex with her and threatening to kill Kayla, whom she had kidnapped. She then forced Kayla to watch a video of the rape. To me, that's even more vile than what Charlie did, because it was completely premeditated and showed a deliberate malice towards them for no reason at all.
She followed this up by grooming their son! She let him rot in prison knowing he was innocent, and proceeded to taunt Steve and Kayla upon returning from the dead.
Meanwhile, she could have had a partner that treated her well, and son that always came at her with love during this period. There is really nothing that explains her behavior. She was a much bigger psychopath than Charlie.
No, Allie did not deserve to be raped. But neither did Steve. Neither did Jordan ( by her own father when she was a child noless) Nor, did Eric or Brady, nor did Paige , Serena, or Wendy deserved to be killed by Ben.
I'm not going to argue that we need Charlie on canvas as rapist number 8 ( after Ava, Clyde, Jack, Kristen, EJ, Sami , and Jan) but there is an irritating lack of logic and consistency when it comes to who is an irredeemable villian versus a "redeemed" character that the audience is having shoved down their throats.
I'm very irritated that we're being given Nancy and Clyde as a cute older pair.Last edited by REstivez71; May 17, 2022, 10:23 PM.

If Charlie had lived, he would’ve had a better chance at getting Allie’s forgiveness then Ava’s love

I don’t think he would’ve gone to prison, at least not for raping Allie or kidnapping Ava, he was too smart for that
-
-
I’m just saying if he actually tried, if he begged Allie for a second chance and to show him some mercy, with time and effort he might have gotten her forgiveness, with Ava it was a lost cause

He is a tragic villain. All he wanted since childhood was a mother who loved him, and the lack of her affection twisted him into a monster.

If Ciara can continue to blame Clyde for the way Ben turned out then that excuse should work double for Charlie and Ava

cali815
What I meant was if Clyde is to blame for Ben becoming a serial killer so he got a second chance because of that, than Ava should be blamed for the way Charlie turned out and he should’ve gotten a second chance in life just like Ben did

Skillet - Monster - about his internal struggle.

It really annoys me that people still see Charlie as if he was the bigger evil, and they continue to give Ava a pass, and so far no one has judged Ava for the way she treated Charlie like she didn’t do anything wrong there, If Ciara can continue to blame Clyde for the way Ben turned out then that excuse should work double for Charlie and Ava

NickFallonFan, I blame Ava for what has happened to Charlie. And it is beyond me why Ben is not in prison for killing three people! Yes, rape is a horrible crime, but if Ben can get therapy why couldn't Charlie? I am with you 100% about Charlie. And it bugs that some are saying that TPTB never meant Charlie to be long term so it is OK that he isn't long term. Grrr.

Jo didn’t disown Jack for being a rapist
Vivian didn’t disown Stefan for being a rapist
Susan didn’t disown EJ for being a rapist
Alice didn’t disown Bill for being a rapist
Ford Decker parents didn’t disown him for being a rapist
I’m sure there are other examples as well but this all shows again what a hypocrite and a terrible mother and human being Ava Vitali isLast edited by Nick Fallon fan; May 18, 2022, 06:43 AM.
