Anybody notice Channel’s comments on super couples and the 56th anniversary?

I found it kind of ironic, because just this past weekend I made a comment on how CIN is referred to as a super couple. I mentioned publications and fans calling them a super couple. But I also mentioned how tptb refer to, or seeing them as the show’s newest super couple. Today it played out on screen, as the next scene after her comments had CIN in them.

And I liked the subtle way the show marked the 56th anniversary. There was no way we were getting a musical montage like years past. Because then the actors in those flashbacks would have to be paid. But even the very budget friendly nod was nice.

I don't consider Cin a super couple. I don't think Days has done a real super couple since the early 99s. DOOL was the master of super couples, but the only ones they still have are Doug/Julie (icons), John/Marlena, and Steve/Kayla. I did notice the 56-year nod, but the super couple thing went over my head. I would see Theo/Ciara, based on their long-term history and with a better story, as more super couple material than Cin. I guess I had to see their beginning to appreciate them, because what I have seen paints Ben as a crazy stalker dude who can't take no for an answer. Not exactly super couple material, at least not for me.

As far a CIN being a supercouple we will have to agree to disagree. They are the closest I have seen to a supercouple since the early ‘90s. And it’s not just because RC wrote the word in the script, he backs it up. I will give you a couple of examples. It’s that ride or die mentality. It’s that they fight together against something or someone, not against each other. They trust, believe in their love for each other. And lastly it was a slow build up to the relationship. Months before a kiss, almost a year before sex and the ilys. And they have been together for years. Mostly now a couple’s relationship is set on super fast, and implodes within a year
I don’t think Ben past means he can’t be one half of a supercouple. Look at Jack he is a rapist, and was so vile in the late 1980s,until Jennifer, and he was redeemed. I see Ben the same way.
Fancy863, even though it was a short scene it’s a continuation of his other interactions regarding Ciara and Ben. He should never have been in the middle of that situation to began with. And now he acts like the wounded party? He doesn’t have to be impressed with Ben, he can hate him. But he was the one to insert himself in the middle of their marriage when Ciara had amnesia. He could have kept it platonic, but he knew his only shot with Ciara was while she had amnesia. He even wished that the amnesia would be permanent.

Sadly big adventures are gone and so went super couples with them. I am sure RC wants CIN to be considered a super couple, but that doesn't mean that he has properly written them to be one. I'm not just saying that CIN is not a super couple but that there aren't any new super couples being created anywhere. It's a bygone era. Those epic sweeping love stories just aren't written anymore.

And I do believe that Ben's past multiple murders and domestic abuse of Abby affect his status as a part of a super couple. It's a shadow over the whole story. Ride or die doesn't have the same meaning when one half of the couple literally killed innocent people because of the last time they were so "in love." And yes, it was a shadow over Jack and Jennifer, too.

And I disagree that CIN had a slow build-up. Almost a year before sex and ILYs is short when it overlaps with a serial killer returning to town, coupled with Ciara's age (and the age difference between them) and when you throw in the fact that Ben's past crimes were against multiple members of Ciara's family.

And don't get me started on frustration with RC's style of ignoring a character's past/development and just writing them according to what he wants or the plot twist of the week -- and with no good explanation for it. He has done it with Theo, Ben, Kristin, Ava, Marlena -- the list goes on, but these examples are the worst offenses.

Finally, super couples have a kind of global appeal and popularity that is not happening anymore. Possibly because of the waning popularity of soaps, but also because of the lack of epic love stories and worldly adventures. CIN doesn't achieve that level of popularity because of these things and, I believe, Ben's past. They are too polarizing with fans.

cali815 I have often referred to CIN as a supercouple for the 21 century or that they have come the closest to those couples, because they do tick all the boxes IMO. But nothing can match that golden age of soaps in the 1980s.
Again we will just have to agree to disagree with Ben’s past being a factor. Folllowing your train of thought Jack shouldn’t have been part of a supercouple because he raped Kayla, that’s a violent act against a woman, a woman who later became his sister in law. But again he was redeemed, and then paired with a rape survivor and became part of days history. It’s a soap, real life and what’s accepted in real life doesn’t always apply. so once a character is redeemed and accepted by other characters, the show, and most viewers move on. It’s how soaps work nothing new . The only thing that’s changed is what can be redeemed.

Again we will have to agree to disagree about the slow build up. A year is a life time on a soap when it comes to relationships,especially. considering how soaps are written now. Just look at a few couples currently on days, or from the recent past. Look at channel and Johnny, or Xander and Gwen, or Xander and Sarah, or Abe and Pauline. The speed at which each of these couples reached relationships milestones is typical of how soaps are now, but fast when compared to CIN. Imo the difference in their ages doesn’t matter. Ciara was soars, when she was paired with Ben she was a college student a woman in her early 20’s . And yes Ben is older, but again nothing new. Bo was clearly older than Hope. He teased her about her age, she turned 18 after being paired with Bo. Jack was older than Jen. When they were paired together like Ciara jen was a young woman in her 20’s and Jack was clearly in his early 30’s. Doug is older than Julie. Abe is older than Paulina. Brady was a toodler when Kristen was with John. He was soarsed and became the father of her child.

I share your frustration with RC writing style, he has at times, frustrated me to no end dating all the way back to OLTL

I don’t know if I agree with your global appeal argument. The internet makes viewing content from other countries so easy. I don’t track cin’s appeal on social media sites or YouTube so I can’t really say what their appeal is gobally. They do get a lot of media coverage outside of soap magazines. And I think that’s because they do appeal to a lot of people, otherwise tptb wouldn’t use them to promote the show.

The show doesn't write super couples anymore because it requires a commitment of decades from writers and actors that's anachronistic nowadays. If VK is going to be famous, she's going to have to git.

But I like Cin and will enjoy their lovely fans (they are so much less bitter than Chabby fans! ??) as long as I can.

I saw them as a supercouple when they were fully established! I agree with happy33 They are the current generation supercouple! Along with CHABBY and ELANI as of now...

Exactly. There's no such thing as supercouples anymore. The last supercouple was Jack and Jen in the 90's. That's when it ended. And tbh, any current couple is often referred to as a supercouple. Heck I still remember when Chloe/Daniel were referred to as one by the show, magazines, etc, lol. Similarily, Shawn/Mimi were referred to as a supercouple when they were on SoapTalk, a talk show back in the day, when Jason Cook and Farah Fath played "Shimi". And Mimi and Shawn( who were married and got divorced) broke up over a decade ago and never got back together. I've also heard Xander/Sarah referred to as a supercouple and Linsey/Sarah hasn't been on the show in nearly a year. Now Xander's moved on with Gwen, who I also wouldn't be surprised if they get labeled a "supercouple" sooner rather than later.

Um...Sami will not like Chanel...she dislike those who may do harm to the ones she loved. She did not liked that Gabi lied to her of Will being Ari's father.

Because not all the actors were at the studio that day. And some of the supercouples are off screen or died.

Probably Covid 19 that most could not be in studio, depending what size the studio is.

More than a few of the cast members are over 60, a few over 70s and 80+ so I imagine the covid protocols are pretty strict. I’m guessing who ever was in the photo was working that day, and they had already had rapid testing and so it was safe to take the pic. But even after the pic was taken a lot of the cast were wearing masks in bts videos
