Andre was never truly redeemed. He would have had to have been remorseful and tried to make amends for his crimes but he never did.
Ben has a real chance, he’s really is remorseful for what he did and would do anything to make things right for the people he hurt but knows he never can.

Ben can be redeemed it's just going to take time. He's already showing more of a desire to be redeemed than we've seen in other characters. He's taking meds, has been shown with Marlena, he's talked about being remorseful, he acknowledges he understands why people are still afraid of him and he's tried to apologize to his victims families. Now he just needs to save a few people and do some good deeds so the people of Salem can accept him. I don't expect it to happen overnight and that's what makes it a good story.

I don’t see why he can’t be redeemed. It’s a soap opera. Anything can happen on a soap. It doesn’t matter if it’s realistic or not. And he is mentally ill but is able to control it with medication.
with Andre, I remember it being said he had mental issues, but did they ever go into specifics about it? I can’t remember.
Redemption stories are on of my favorite kinds of stories.

I don't get the idea where it is viewed that Andre was redeemed? Is it redeemed to the viewer or as a character residing in Salem?
As a viewer, I didn't think of him as a redeem character. I didn't look upon him as a good man but still as a villain who was continuously plotting away with various schemes. Yes he was 'nice' to a very few people like Abby but he tried a number of times to take over the position in the family company away from his brother. Andre didn't seem to care for any people outside of his family and even then it came with issues.
As a character in Salem, I can't remember any of the other people that lived there, got on with him to a point where they were friendly towards him and trusted him. Andre committed many a crime and like his father and other family members he some how got away with a lot of what he did. Stefano lived in Salem at various time amongst the Bradys, the Hortons, etc, etc and he was hated but as he got away with his numerous illegal activities, they all had to put up with him being around them. Was EJ also believe to have been redeemed? When Kristen came back and got involved with Brady, (before the drugging of Eric) was she considered to be redeem?
As far as I can see, Andre is and will be know as a villain of Days because he has never IMO shown true remorse and sorrow for any pain and anguish that he has caused.
So even though I'm not interested in the character of Ben, he is very different to Andre because from all the comments, Ben is trying to prove that he can be better than the person he was during the time he lost his mind.
I don't think that Andre has ever even thought of doing that. Andre is a Dimera that wants all that he wants whatever the cost to others.

The people of Salem came to co exist with Andre. Roman helped him when Hattie had him imprisoned, and he even talked him out of getting revenge on her. Oh and Andre helped them capture Clyde, so he got a thank you for that. He also helped John and Roman track down Orpheus when he kidnapped Marlena and Kayla. No, Andre wasn’t fully redeemed and he eventually did betray his family for his own self interests, but he was shown in a better light and his former victims did forgive him enough to coexist with him.

I think he can be but there is a segment of the viewership that seems to think that everything should hinge on Abby. These are the folks who deem Andre as redeemed because he was nice to Abby, but Ben can never be redeemed because he thinks Abby is a bitch (his word not mine). These are the same people who thing that Gabi should just forgive and forget with Abby because Abby was mentally ill. The same people who dismiss that Ben was mentally ill at the time of his crimes AND that he had several years of in-facility care and treatment.
Ben is fine, or he will be. To have taken him to the lengths they did was wasteful and I see them pulling that back now.

I would not say andre was.ever redeemed but they did soften him and liked that he was good to abby and did seem to sometimes care about chad. But there was never complete trust in what he would do and certainly i do not think anyone would want to see him date abby, marlena, kayla or anyone else on the decent side. Kate too is evil so people did not care. Lets be logical....in the real world neither andre or ben would ever be redeemed. Therefore some viewers will never accept either.

There's absolutely no reason why he can't be redeemed. Ben is already well on his way. He's expressed genuine remorse for his actions, he's taking his meds, and he's showing a true willingness to change and be better. He has to want it and he does. Andre on the other hand never was really redeemed. Sure he became close to Abby, but beyond that he was never really a good guy. Most of Salem still hated him all the way to the end. Ben has a better chance of being accepted by the people of Salem than Andre ever did.

People knew who Andre was and there was people on the show that hated him. The same way there will be people who hate Ben the serial killer. Plus, let's not forget, Ben terrorize the whole city and enjoyed doing it.

So did Andre as the Salem Slasher. I was watching at that time and I can remember him killing Renee and Trista. I remember he even attempted to, or did, rape one of his six victims before he killed her. Salem was in hysterics, and on high alert. The only one that believed that Roman was not the killer was Marlena.

Maybe it's BECAUSE of Andre no one trusts Ben. Makes me think of the song "One Of Us" from the movie "The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride".
"Someone (Andre) once lied to us (Salem)
Now we're not so blind (Ben)"

No. No one trusts Ben because of what he did. And they think he might do it again. They hear the term ‘serial killer’, and Salemite spines start to tense up somewhat. But having a resident SK is handy. It alleviates any repressed regret or guilt they might be harbouring re their own transgressions (rape, murder, etc.). They can simply point at Ben and say “we’re better than himâ€. Clears their consciences right up. Like magic.
