There was a spoiler about Kristen showing up on Stefan's doorstep and that hasn't happened yet, so clearly she's not dead. My best guess: she landed ON TOP of poor Paul, which means she can easily get up and flee and he's twice as injured because he took the brunt of it for both of them.
