I really think being with Patrick Lockhart is what ruined Hope, I understand she was angry with Bo because of Chelsea accidentally killing Zach and she thought he was picking his daughter Chelsea over her but to get involved with Patrick and completely blindly trust him without really knowing him was dumb. Every time Bo tried to warn her about him she quickly defended\ him and would bash Chelsea even if what they were talking about had nothing to do with her. In other words Patrick was the worst thing that ever happened to her. Agree or disagree?

I have actually always felt the same way. I was never a serious Bope fan. They were already a couple when I started watching regularly and didn't do much for me. I came absolutely adore Bo during his relationship with Carly.
When Hope returned, I found I liked her but still didn't have much interest. I came around to her when PR returned and I saw their chemistry. I started really liking them. Sure, it was still 70% about Bo, but I liked them. But I totally soured on Hope during the Patrick Lockhart thing. She should have been sympathetic. But something about her behavior and her willful stupidity undermined any ability I could have had for her.
I've liked her again since, but never the same. And it seems every time something has happened since, she returned to the same recalcitrant, willfully obtuse jerk she was with Patrick. She did it after Ciara's kidnapping and she's doing it again now. Once again, it's not that her feelings are unreasonable. It's that her actions are unlikeable. -
Yes, the thing with Patrick was dumb (and I actually liked Patrick), but I wouldn't necessarily say that's what ruined her. For me, the true beginning of her destruction was the Nighttime Hope ish. My issue isn't Hope sleeping with Patrick or even being hurt and leaving Bo. My issue was her behavior and her willful stupidity re: Patrick. She thereafter repeated that ish after Ciara's kidnapping. And she's doing it again now with Ben and Ciara. In every case, her initial reaction and her hurt were understandable. But her actions and behavior thereafter were not, at least not to me.

I don't think Hope has ever been ruined as a character. She has been able to bounce back from mostly everything. I was not into Bope but appreciated their legacy and history. I thought the Nighttime Hope storyline while Bo was with Carly was her lowest point as a character. It was tacky and hard to watch.Comment

Disagree so much. I was glad she had someone while Bo was all entangled with Billie and Chelsea. Bo needed a wake-up call about those two.
Chelsea was a complete monster and Bo was duped by her and her mother, so I was fine with Patrick. I wish they had never went ahead with Patrick
being bad, and he and Hope could have remained friends.Comment

I agree but you know all of Hope's non Bo love interests had to be demonized. Except Rafe because Bo was leaving and he got Bo's seal of approval to be with Hope. Yet Bo's others can coexist with him....
Patrick could've easily been paired with other women on the show at the time: Nicole, Chloe etc.

I disagree! Patrick was no more than a plot device to create angst for Bo & Hope which they did LOTS over their decades together! Hope was devastated that she felt Bo was choosing Chelsea over her (that story alone was awful IMO - didn't enjoy Zach's death, how it happened, the follow-up, etc.). She turned to Patrick & was so deeply hurt she rejected Bo's warnings, but as was always the case, Bope's reunion was heartwarming.Originally posted by Skins 2008 View Post
IMO Hope's downfall started when they wrote Bo as a deserter to his family, Hope believed it, & trashed him all over town to move on with Aiden. The nail in her coffin was moving on with Rafe before Bo's body started cooling after his death! It's been the pits for her ever since!Comment

I think Higley ruined Hope (and DAYS as a whole). Retconning storylines and characters for the sake of contrived plotlines. I am trying really hard to tune in now (With SH as the nu-Kirsten/Susan), I am not impressed (but I am not disappointed either... if that makes any sense).
GH is at least somewhat consistent in quality (the level of quality is up for debate), and Y&R is turning into a dumpster fire.Comment

The character of Hope has been poorly written for a while. As has her step-mother Julie,and Maggie. They all used to be endearing characters and now they are just judgmental, gossipy, and self -righteous.Comment

I don't think Hope is ruined at all. She's gone through ups and downs, bad storylines and good ones, but that's with any soap character. The fact that she's still a strong presence on this show proves she's still a good character. I respect the Bo and Hope legacy, but I was never a Bo and Hope fan. This pairing with Rafe, is the first pairing I've ever liked her in. I know I'm in the minority with that, but all I see is Hope being happy with Rafe, despite the contrived angst of Sami being put between them.
