  • Kristen Blake is being written too cartoonish

Who shows up to someone’s wedding and threatens to shoot someone with so many witnesses with so much to loose? I feel like the writers have written her into a corner. What ever happened to the characters secretly get revenge on someone instead of being so open about it? Is Kristen gonna have to be on the run now or is she gonna find a way of not getting prosecuted?

The show is terrible with their silly doppelgangers. It's awful to watch.

Kristen never should have been turned and for the sake of Marlena. She then was okay again with Brady but they had to turn her again for the Eric storyline. I hated that. I preferred Kristen to Marlena.
I also hated that they'd turned Nick for silly Melanie. Nick was a good guy who'd helped Chelsea and was a good surrogate father to those two little boys. He never would have turned on Will and Gabi.

im more than fine with this ... i dont need weeks of kristen lurking and plotting against Marlena. Kristin is bonkers... Marlena threw her out a window for petes sake.. let the woman get her very public and outlandish revenge..that's why I'm here!

Andre was more cartoonish in 2007, but then again he was more psychotic then Kristen could ever dream to be.

Attention: soaps are cartoons for adults! That's why I watch.

Maybe for you. Some of us liked them because at one time, before a certain writing style came in to compete with the stupidity of "reality show" nonsense, the genre was a good mix of romantic fantasy, family relationships and long term relationships between characters and the audience. At one time, daytime soaps led the way with drama about issues the prime time was too afraid to tackle: from interracial relationships at a time when many resisted the notion; to abortion, to gay relationships. Yes, sometimes they were a little too soapy and they definitely became cartoonish in the 90s. But before that, the genre did some classic good drama, escapism adventure and romance. Now it is cartoons and sex.

Thank you. Never liked the silliness of Kristen, Susan and all that cr*-p. Turned me off to the show for quite a while. As a regular, believable character Kristen would have been interesting, struggling to make sense of what Stephano did to her family. Instead they made her a cartoon.

I felt that they did a good job making her a viable character after she first returned and took up with Brady. That was actually the time that her character was most interesting to me IMO

I personally think SH plays Susan softer and less cartoonish than ED did . I also find ED played Kristen more nuanced while SH so far plays Kristen with no subtlety. Interesting I don’t know if it’s a choice Stacy deliberately made to be different or it’s just how she sees the the two characters.

I wish SH could play Susan an ED could play Kristen.

I’m glad it’s not just me! I don’t think it would matter if two different actresses played the characters.
With at least a few of us seeing the differences I know it’s not simply what I noticed.

SH is a great Susan more depth and less quirky or caricatured than ED . Overall SH makes Susan more realistic. But as Kristen she’s harsher , wilder and over the top.

ED played Kristen with more substance and finesse and made her serious but not too serious. I didn’t care as much for her version of Susan.

Truer words have never been spoken. Ever.

Many including myself watch for another major reason - soaps are simply porn with story lines. When we don't get enough, we complain that it is too cartoonish. That is the root of our anger.

And that's when soaps were really good and more popular. To complain about Kristen is almost a joke with all of the other "cartoonish" characters and story lines on the show - I won't even name them. I watch soaps now because I am somewhat disabled and I don't like to shop so being stuck at home leaves little to watch in the daytime. I don't like talk/game/food shows. But I will often choose to watch a good rerun of some shows over soaps. I can only ff so much.

I don't dislike "Kristin" but I'm not crazy about Stacey yet, and I doubt I ever will be.

Kristen Blake wasn’t very cartoonish. But over the years as she morphed into Kristen DiMera, a true DiMera, she became more so. In Eileen’s last appearance as KD, she had that sneering villain quality. And I am SO enjoying SH in these various roles!

I think it was a great way for Kristen to re-introduce herself to Salem. Sami was the one that actually pulled the trigger; Kristen can't get prosecuted for attempted murder. I don't think she's being written in a "cartoonish" sort of way like Bonnie and Hattie. It looks like the Susan/Kristen character just might be written a little differently to accommodate SH's abilities.

In a way I agree, but in a way I don't. I think the actress portrayal is the real issue here. ED's Kristen has had some pretty out there writing, but I feel like her portrayal was so grounded that I didn't seem as out there as this Kristen did. I always felt for Kristen and understood where she was coming from. SD's portrayal is just as over the top as the writing is. So while Kristen's return is making a lot happen on the show, she's become a less interesting and compelling character. Just a mustache twirling villain IMO. I think SD's Susan was spot-on though!

It’s definitely a combination. Kristen has gradually been written more cartoonish ever since she’s turn to the dark side. In a way, she is the perfect replacement for Stefano for being a villain on a show because she has many layers and connections to the main characters on the canvas. While Stefano became more toned down with time, Kristen has become more toned up. However, SD is definitely playing Kristen with less layers than ED, but ED played Susan more campy than SD is. It’s a give and take, a preference for either.
