  • DAYS lack of strong male leads

Now that Steve is being written out, DAYS seems to have no major male lead actors. Brady is "somewhat" up there, but nothing like Stefano, Bo, Steve, Daniel and EJ. The rest of the male characters (John, Roman, Eric Rafe and Justin) are just wimpy and boring. Stefan is another wishy-washy character that could use a shot of B12. Victor just sits on a couch. Bring back Tony/Andre, EJ and revamp the Stefano character to make him more like his father. Vince Irrizary is gone as well. What are the writers doing?

I would like to see Andre back as head villain of the Dimeras. Stefan hasn't made a good one. If SN does return, I would want to see stronger s/ls for
    him.

Hi dee2. I agree with you. I'm not sure if it's the actor or the script that he's given, but Stefan is nothing more that "filler" until Tony/Andre or EJ come back.

Hi, gymguy68. I would have liked seeing Andre as head villain all along, instead of the way he was written,
and then let go for Stefan to be the head of Dimera. I don't dislike Stefan, but he isn't villain material. I
like to see a real line drawn between a villain and everyone else, and see that everyone knows it. The good
guys battled Stefano for decades, but people liked watching Stefano too.

Daniel???! He may have been a screen hog, but he wasn't a show lead. He was just horribly propped at the expense of other characters.

So much truth in this statement alone.

TPTB don't seem to like REAL "men" anymore - that's become glaringly obvious as I've been posting for a LONG time now! I don't even see Brady as a "somewhat" - he's more or less just a pretty face to me! My favorite MEN were Bo & Steve (tough, masculine, sexy, heroes, but, at least, Victor & Stefano were strong male figures but were criminalsI

I respect others' POV's, but I was never into Daniel or E.J. (also from the crime family which never appeal to be as leading guys). I CAN attest that John, Rafe, Roman - he USED to be strong til they wimped him out, too - and Justin are much too soft & boring! I think this is just the preference of today's writers - it's the way THEY want it to be unfortunately!

a real man? not sure what that is. I'd be more curious to know what qualities make a man NOT a real man...

I think they are trying to make Robert Scott Wilson one of the male leads, which I think is a great idea. He’s got the talent and looks for it. Give him the right material and screen time and he’ll rule this show.

Also, would love to see André return.

You bet he does. And he will eventually I think. Love the new Ben. Will love him even more when they redeem him like they do everyone else.

Days has a potential a lead character, but it never seems to work out, but maybe this time....I am looking at you, Rafe Hernandez!

Hi tiff5555. While Rafe might have some potential, I think his father (played by A. Martinez) was definitely the stronger of the Hernandez family.

It depends on what one's definition of "strong make lead" is. Is it someone who acts super "macho" all the time and gets in lots of fistfights?
I think we have some pretty good remaining leads and Jack is going to return and I think Ben is quickly becoming one of the new male leads.

Hi. No fistfights or false bravado needed. Bo & Steve were strong male leads and their characters were interesting. Jack is okak, but a little on the "quirky" side.

I love them both especially Bo! I am interested in seeing what they can do with Ben. I do think RSW has the chops but Ben has a lot more to overcome than most male characters so we will see.

Dan was never a lead IMO he was just an annoying secondary character the writers seemed to love for some reason.

Hi Skins. Maybe Daniel was the strongest male lead they had at the time. His character had an interesting story line (Kate was obsessed with him, Chloe and Dan were a great couple, Melanie was his daughter and Maggie was his mom). John, Roman and Rafe are monotone and boring. Stefano and Tony, although criminals, were interesting to watch. Victor is reduced to being a piece of furniture.

Hi,Gymguy68 you might be right about maybe Dan being the strongest lead at that time I just got tired of him always being the hero quickly. Yes Stefano and Andre were always inetresting to watch. I would like to see another dynamic young villain or villainess not named Dimera brought in to spice things up even more.

The ratings fell in the beginning of 2016, because of Daniel. Even thou the stories he had, was not good, the female viewers did loved the actor to join him on this Days journey.

Its relative on what you consider a strong male lead.

I mean there's Abe but they seem to ignore him.

Steve they don't seem to care for would be another one. Same with Justin who they also ignore.

Jack is returning so he's one.

I think JJ has potential if the show actually cared to write for him.

However this show doesn't really care for the "heroes" that's why I try not to root for redemption stories anymore the show loses interest in the character when they become decent.

I disagree. We have John, Brady, & Stefan. JJ & Ben both have A LOT of potential. They just have to figure out how to fix Ben’s past.

        Stefano was a lead?

Daniel was hated , except on facebook, just like Rafe. In fact Rafe was a lead before Daniel was, so if Daniel counts then Rafe does too

VI's days character was a MESS and not what I would call a strong lead

Chad has been the main younger lead for 3 years but he's leaving soon

Does Will not count cuz he's gay? I think he can be made into a male lead. Him and Ben as well will probably be taking over as the younger leads with Chad gone

As for the older demographic ya kinda left out John Black.

Eric would be a lead if Nicole was around, maybe a new love interest will gain popularity if she doesn't return. Idk. And unfortunately Rafe is also a lead in this group. And stupid Brady.

I think Stefano was a lead not a romantic one but he carried stories and was an indelible part of Days so I think it counts.

I have to laugh at the comments that Brady is a male lead... I cannot see it -- he is so dopey to me! He is just a bungling fool in my eyes. He is very good looking, I give him that, but he is so immature.

I wish they would give Abe more time. Ben has potential, and Rafe, if he could break free from Hope. He needs to stand up to her to be a male lead in my eyes.

If Lucas was ever written write he could have been a lead, they had a chance to make him one in 2006-2007 but blew it.

Yes Lucas is also a good choice is a Horton and has been on the show for 25 years. He should be a lead as well but again they tamed him and is too "nice" to be one. I'm not bothered by villains being leads but great soaps had balance you had a "bad" lead and a "good" lead.

Lucas can be a strong lead, but maybe it's just the actor that doesn't make it believable with me. With all due respect to BD, he always looks like he's going to get the giggles. What about Shane Donovan?

Male leads are all dumbed down so women can pull the wool over their eyes. Like Chad now and EJ when Nicole was wearing a rubber belly.

This is true its hard to think of a smart male lead unless he's a villain.

        • #15
Maybe you mean a lead antagonist like Stefano and Victor. I consider Will Horton a lead character but he falls into the protagonist category with Paul and Sonny. I think this show could benefit from having more grey characters like Brady and JJ.
