    Worst Death on ATWT ?

Worst death was Chris Hughes not long after Chris and Nancy's 50th anniversary & the show 30th anniversary.

Dr. Reid Oliver. Why they did that to us in the final year is beyond me.

Reid was terrible. He started off great, but then became watered down as a plot point for Chris. Never bought him with Luke. They had zero chemistry. He was yet ANOTHER relationship obstacle for Luke and Noah to overcome, but they didn't need to kill him off to get him out of the way.

TeamLuRe & chandon1, I agree with every word you said. Dr. Reid Oliver was a great character, and the actor who played him blew me away with his performances, he was an incredible actor. I was so sad when he died, and felt cheated. Luke did deserve better.

Reid Oliver for sure! I was so pi$$ed off when they had him die. He and Luke had incredible chemistry together and really sizzled onscreen unlike the lame Noah guy.

Nancy Hughes. I really wanted her to say the final line of the show.

It's a toss up of three for me.

The first one being Jennifer Munson back in 2006. She had just gotten Johnny back after believing her baby was dead. Her memorial service scenes were the last scenes of Benjamin Hendrickson that aired shortly before he died (there was an interview his nephew gave not long after his death that shooting the scenes around Jennifer's death and memorial service was hard on Ben because of losing both his mom and brother within the year or two before that).

Hal's death that same year in October 2006. Benjamin Hendrickson's death had a huge effect on the cast. There was no way that the role of Hal should have been recast when Ben died. That one was hard with Hal being killed in the line of duty off screen. If you watch the Locher Room reunion with Ellen Dolan and Scott Holmes (ex-Margo and ex-Tom), they talked about Ben it was still hard for them to talk about.

Nancy Hughes in 2010 was the third one, knowing she wasn't going to be there when the show went off the air for the last time.

Nancy Hughes/Helen Wagner dying six months before the show went off the air was tragic...she should have had the final line.....

Hal Munson's death because Benjamin Hendrickson had died in real life....but I was glad they didn't recast the role....

Gunnar St. Clair - because he really loved Barbara and after years of torment from James - she deserved to be loved the way he loved her....I had always hoped they'd reveal that he never did die (off screen) and bring him back for Barbara...if the original actor Hugo Napier wasn't willing, then Michael Tylo, who played Quint Chamberlain on Guiding Light would have done nicely as a recast....

They were SUCH a good pairing.....I liked her with Hal as well....but really loved her with Gunnar....

Barbara was one character that REALLY changed through the years - from ingenue victim who suffered at the hands of James Stenbeck to conniving, vindictive shrew.....it was such a stark difference....but I always felt like if Gunnar returned for her....she'd revert back to her former 'ways'......the first return from the dead of James, in Duncan's castle, dressed like a monk, during a storm....was EPIC.....they could have brought Gunnar back in similar fashion....everyone thinking it was James, yet again, but when the robe hood was lowered, and someone said, 'Hello, Barbara'....this time it was Gunnar.....;0)

GuidingLite, I really LIKE your scenario with Gunnar & the monk's robe.

          That would have been epic.

2 bad it didn't happen that way!

I would have much rather seen Barbara with Gunnar instead of silly Henry!

My vote goes to Jennifer because she died during a storyline. The viewers watched Jennifer say goodbye to Barbara and Paul. And Gunar too, but I barely remember that storyline since it happened while I was in school.

Sadly, the death of the other characters were all off screen because of real life deaths.

I think I have to vote for this as well. I think it was a horrible mistake to kill Barbara's only daughter.

Reed Oliver . I lost all interest in the show after that although it was almost over.

Jennifer's death was so emotional. Hal's too.

The one however that sticks out to me was when Barbara and John's baby died, little Johnny. I don't think I will ever forget that one.

              Rose D'Angelo.

When the doctor's informed Lily that Rose's organs were failing, the scenes were heartbreaking . So many characters were impacted by Rose's death. Lily's grief and subsequent breakdown, in which she attempted to become Rose, were acted with perfection by MB! It was also sad years later when Jade came to town but her mother was already gone. The scenes of Luke telling Jade about her mother/his Aunt Rose were well done.

But so many were memorable and so well done.

Reid. Luke was the only character without a happy ending. Those writers didn’t think things through.

He may not have been so happy at the end, but at least he and Noah had taken the first steps to rebuilding their relationship. I certainly didn't think they needed to kill him off though....they should have let him live and put him with Chris, since they had good chemistry together and Reid and Luke didn't....it was painful to watch it. Oh, well, Luke and Noah would have been back together anyway....that's how supercouples work.

Luke wasn't the only one. Lilden a much bigger and longer couple didn't have a happy end either. What about Meg, she ended up in a mental institution. What about Lisa, Emma and other character that didn't have enough airtime despite being in the show for decades? we never got to see what happened to them. Maddie was off the show before the end of the show even tho, they brought her to be Allison's brother's love interest. Many many actor didn't have a well-thought exit. At least Luke had a "closure", we know what happened to him, some characters we just have to use our imagination.

For me the saddest was Hal/Benjamin Hendrickson. Silliest for me was the one that floated away in a hot air balloon. Was that Gunnar?

It's close between Nancy and Dr. Reid for me. I cried during both and especially Dr. Reid Oliver.

I think that was because the actor who played Chris Hughes passed away shortly after that episode was filmed in May of 1986.
